    Just remember Gene, the process of scrolling is what it's all about. Take your time and enjoy the process. Relax! For me, it's the intricacy that makes it fun. A challenge. If it was easy everybody would be doing it.

    I saw that today too Dave. I think it was on Steve Good's site. It looks like a nice saw as long as quality control is doing its job. Of course you have to add $100 or so for the better Pegas chucks.

    If you are on the Western side of the US Cherokee Wood Products has great wood and their customer SVC is also great. The guy who runs their online website is named Chris. They even have a "scroll saw wood" category on their site. I buy all of my wood from them. Chris tries very hard to keep shipping costs down and they are happy to get custom milling requests.     Thanks for your reply J.T. I for one would appreciate you spending some time here as I learned a lot from you and it was always nice to know that you were close by to answer my inane questions. I'm happy to know that you are still active even if it's not scrolling. Do stop by as often as you can. Nice to hear from you and I'm amazed at the amount of creations that you showed us.     I might be tempted to go to their Facebook page, if they have one, and let everybody know what has happened and how you are being treated. I did that one time when I was having problems with U.S. Bank and I actually got an email from somebody up the chain that same day and wanted to know how they could rectify the situation. Don't accept what is happening to you. It will never get better if you lay down. Fight them and you will win. They hate bad publicity and letting them know that you have been wronged is where you start. Edit: I just checked and they have a presence on FB. Let them have it!

    If I'm reading your statement correctly, you say you want a blade that cuts on the up stroke. My first question is why? The blades are designed to cut on the down stroke to help hold the wood down to the table. As said, there are some blades that have about 3/4" of up-cut teeth at the bottom to create a cleaner cut on the underside. Less fuzzies that way. I would suggest that if up cutting is essential you turn your piece over and cut from the bottom side. Best of luck with your newfound hobby and welcome to SSV. We are a friendly group and love seeing pictures of whatever you create. If/when you have questions, and there are no dumb questions, try to post a picture of what you might be in doubt about.

    Rolf I'm curious about your swivel. I see it's a pvc union but what is the screw in its side for? Is it a tension screw or a stop or ???

    Jerry, when I was 8 years old my parents asked my if I would like to learn a musical instrument and if so what one. I said yes and I'd like to learn guitar. So they bought me an accordian and I too took lessons for 8 years. When I turned 16 I stopped and never played it again. I hated every minute and can't stand the sound of an accordian.

    I'm thinking if it's for a class and only $50, why not? Just make sure whoever is using it that no matter how bad it might be that it's just a learning saw and there are much better saws available if they choose to follow the hobby.

    If by press foot you are referring to the hold-down, most scrollers remove them and give them a healthy toss. A safety item to save on lawsuits. Looking at your picture, I think a tension lever from a newer model should work. But as already stated, if you want to really sweeten up your saw buy a set of Pegas blade clamps. They work great and all that clutter on the front end goes away. By the way, welcome to SSV. Please keep on posting.

    What Bill said. I will say this though, I have on-board dust control on each of my Ex saws that work well. We discussed this a couple of years back. I incorporated the MetroVac 500 and small cyclone cannisters. To cut down on the noise I fabbed a muffler of sorts from an empty Tropical o/j bottle. I can take either saw anywhere and still have dust control. I've got about $75 ea invested.
