Can you elaborate on what you are making? I have a thin kerf saw blade that would work for some things or a regular router bit in a 1/16th dia.

I'm curious Don. Whenever somebody needs a font, you always seem to know what they need. How do you identify them so quickly?

I bought that book and did cut one of the patterns. I also tried some of the practice patterns. They were boring. So I found a nice butterfly pattern and some plywood and just went at it. It'snot as hard as it looks. Blade selection was more of a problem but even there I just jumped in and figured it out. Still leatning after 8 years but if it wasn't challenging, it would not hold my interest.

I'm curious as to just how much everybody appreciates this site. For me, it was the beginning of a long and truly fascinating hobby. It allowed me to learn the ins and outs of how to make things using a scroll saw. But, more importantly, it gave me the opportunity to meet many great folks who share the same interests as me. So, with that said, just how important is SSV to everybody? What if it went away? Would you all miss it or would you just move along to the next site? I guess what I'm saying is, if you feel as I do, become a patron of the site and cough up $10/yr for the basic membership. Or $20 for the next level. If you can spare it go all the way and opt for the monthly plan of $5/mo. It takes money to keep these websites going and that's why many don't make it. I'd be VERY unhappy to see this one fade away as so many others have. Give it some thought. It's the only one, besides Steve Good's site, that I donate to and I don't miss the few bucks it costs. For the cost of maybe one board a year, you can help keep it alive. P.S. This idea is on me. Not anybody else.

I just recalled the name, it is Otto Frei. But after checking on them, they no longer handle anything related to scrolling or fret sawing.

I just got re-started in marquetry. When I took the class about 8 years ago, the instructor said he was buying all of his blades, 2/0 not reversed, from an outfit that sold watchmaking supplies. So, I bought a gross of them along with some numbered drill bits to size. Anyway, I'm using my Hegner to re-learn how to cut the thin veneer. I haven't broken any blades as of yet but I'm doing my best to "sneak up" on the tension. It doesn't take much with those tiny blades. I'm not sure if there is really any difference between the blade makers. I really think it's all in the learning curve. The blades I'm using really have no name other than the supplier and that was Otto something. I can't recall now. They no longer sell blades. Once I found the Pegas blades, I've not bought any others. JMHO.

I found that using my shirt pocket magnet, I can position the blade with teeth forward and down and the hold the blade where I want it for tightening in the bottom clamp. Don't need it on my Hegner.

Through the generosity of Les's wife Faye, I now have his Stewmac base that you are speaking about. I hold it in my hands and it thrills me to know that he held it also. I dearly miss him.

Gene, a long while back, I was trying to cut a 3-D table sitter for my wife. I was using some 1 3/4" fir that I had laying around. It was more of a practice thing so I was using junk wood. I was having a terrible time cutting it. When I posted my woes I was told to get some skip tooth or super skip tooth blades. So I ordered a gross of them from Denny. What a difference they made. They clear the kerf of the built-up dust so much better and as Larry said, you don't need or want the reverse teeth on these cuts. I did still use #5 blades but in the super skips instead.

Thx Gene. They had exactly what I needed ib 3 pks. I bought 2 pks to make the $17 UPS chg worthwhile. I've never used them before. Something to remember.

I have a pattern right now that requires 2 pcs of veneer that are about 10 x10" ea. I can't find anything that is in my budget. The cost of goods is not the problem. It's the shipping. I've been thinking about buying a piece of pressure sensitive 2ft x 8ft but can't find it in Cherry. I'm high-centered until I can get some. I will not be held hostage to shipping costs.

Definitely 2 different saws. I'm still not totally comfortable with my Hegner, but learning.

This hyper inflation is killing everybody. I sure hope the voters get smart in 24.
