  1. Makes no difference at all. As long as your block is perfectly 90 degrees on the two faces your pattern is on and your fold line is exactly on that square edge.
  2. 4 sanded & glued.
  3. 2 down, 2 to go. Lots of finish sanding, fitting then gluing. Fun!
  4. I've only used lacquer once on a special project and was advised that Deft was the best in aerosol. I used the semi-gloss and was very happy with it. A top coat, quick sanding with 400 and a second coat.
  5. I don't do puzzles but I top coat most everything I make. after danish oil I spray a coat or 2 of Zinnser's spray shellac. Give it a try.
  6. Yes, thanks are in order for all you do.
  7. Congrats on the new GGS.
  8. I found it in quite a few places here near ne but they sell it in the long lengths required for "redecking" truck trailers. Only one place offers boxes of cutoffs and not always available. One of these days I'm hoping I get a call.
  9. It was a typo. Should have been apitong. He never talked about it in any of his videos. I contacted him and asked about the wood he used in many of his projects. He wrote back to me and explained that a friend gives him lots of scraps from whatever they use it for in Japan. Sorry.
  10. I watch a series of Japanese videos by OHYO56 and he uses apitoa. It's used here in the U.S. for truck trailer flooring. Very tough wood and appears to be similar to dark mahogany but harder. I've been trying to find some that isn't 16 feet long and 2" thick. I may have found a place that will sell cutoffs. I'll keep you posted.
  11. You should see the scars on my back!
  12. Come over. I also give lessons.
  13. Sounds perfect to me. No dust collection system needed. A broom, a sack and a hose. Done.
  14. Update! I have now completed all the cutting and it's on to the sanding, assembly and finish. This represents about 40 hours so far. I can't do more than 2 of the sides at a time or my eyes fall out onto my cheeks. Very intensive up close cutting. I used a combination of # 1, 3, 5 Pegas MGT blades for all of it.
  15. Kev, I recently recovered/padded all of our dining chairs. Not difficult at all. I bought the padding at Hobby Lobby. 2 inch thick so they are very soft and comfy.
  16. Thanks, I had an idea that was it but wanted to be sure.
  17. Wick, what is a 1-2-3 block?
  18. It's very similar to my milk crate. Lol.
  19. I'm surprised we still have anything made of glass, or pointed, or sharp, or.... When I was still selling tools it amazed me when seeing warning labels on things that should be obvious to anybody with more than 2 brain cells. The problems were all created by lawyers.
  20. Oh yeah, I forgot to add oak also. I've use maple on occasion and hickory but not on my favorite list.
  21. I use walnut, mahogany, cherry and poplar depending on the project.
  22. We grew up in the best of times. Sanity prevailed.
  23. It's a sad world we live in. I got my first pocket knife at 8 years. My first BB gun a year later and a .22 at 12.
