  1. Here ya go. It's a mess.
  2. Thanks Dave. I won't make that mistake again. Now I have to try to figure out how to save what I have. I'm thinking of covering up the bleed-over with some sort of colored decorative rope. I can't just toss it. Gotta figure out something.
  3. Dan, I'm going to take a run up to Long Beach, no that far, and see if I can buy it. That's the closest L.A. County city to me. It's just not convenient so I never think to head that direction. Thanks for the explanation. I've never used the BSO/MS mixture before so maybe it's time.
  4. There must be as we can't buy ms in the county where I live. I know paint thinner has more odor to it. Not sure what the reasoning is in their thinking.
  5. Spring22 gets you 15% off plus free shipping on orders over $35 & no tax.
  6. I'm using the 90% type.
  7. John, the idea of using alcohol is it dries fast and leaves no watermark. At least that's what I heard. I just never gave any thought to the possibility of the padauk running. Now I know better.
  8. I copied it.
  9. Thanks Dan. I'm pretty sure it was just isopropyl alcohol. No water.
  10. Wow Dave! Yours is fabulous! I hope the lady that got mine never sees yours. You are a true wood artist.
  11. Dan, that was meant tongue in cheek. Only part of L.A. County is that way. We have our areas here too.
  12. Yes Kevin, that's exactly what it will be. LOL. No, somewhere on this forum, it was suggested to do a quick spritz of alcohol. The part of half water may be a mistake. I just know that I have a spray bottle of whatever it is in my shop and I used it. I've done it before with positive results but I never dreamed the padauk would bleed the way it did. That's why I posted "lesson learned". I'll not make that mistake again.
  13. The other day, I decided to make up another one of those candy/nut baskets that I have made many of. I had an assortment of woods so I decided on the top and bottom of padauk, 3 layers of cherry and 4 layers of poplar. All good at that point, so I cut everything out. Yesterday I glued everything up and left it in clamps overnight. Today, I decided that I'd like to see what it was going to look like after oiling. I had heard a long time ago that a spray of alcohol and water would give a quick look at what the finished product would be like so I give it a few squirts and it definitely give me an idea of how it would look. Unfortunately, the padauk has run down into the top layer of poplar. Sad face here. Oh well, lesson learned and this one will be different than anything I've made so far. I think I'll give it another spray or two and also let it run from the bottom up into the next layer of poplar. It'll just have a look like a "tie-dyed" tee shirt. Dang!
  14. No, thank you Denny. Fantastic service.
  15. I can't tell you how great the service is from Artcraftersonline.com enough. I ordered another set of Pegas chucks on Tuesday. It's Friday and I have them in hand. That's from Tennessee to So. Cal. in 3 days. I'm truly surprised at the USPS too. They are usually slow but they have stepped it up. Thanks Denny Knappen for the great service. And a 15% discount to boot.
  16. If I venture into L.A. County, I'll have to carry a gun. It's crazy there.
  17. Dan, is there a substitute for the mineral spirits? I was at H/D today and checked again but still no go. They have paint thinner and another product called paint cleaner if I recall. I've never seen it before.
  18. Thanks for the update Alex. We are all So Sorry for what you and you fellow countrymen are having to go through. We will keep praying for all of you that you make it through this ordeal safely and that at some point things get back to normal. Stay safe.
  19. No, it just gave it a slight sheen.
  20. I just picked up something I made that was dipped in Watco and once dried I sprayed it with Zinnzer's shellac. No smell at all.
  21. I usually wait 3-4 days between coats. As to odor it may never go away.
  22. Look at the i. d. Plate. If it says made in China, chances are it's wore out. That's where we start. If not, we can move on.
  23. Dave you humble me!
  24. You see Aleasha, I told you it was a great place. Welcome!
  25. That's what I have too but mine is the original on with the plastic base. I've gone all through it and fine-tuned it so it is very accurate. The Japanese guy whose videos I've become hooked on also uses one and he has made a lot of accessory add-ons for his. He came up with a baffle for inside that keeps most of the sawdust under control and routes it to the vac pickup. I made one for my saw and it works great. Mine had to be altered a bit because of a difference in saw design. His videos are addicting. Very creative guy. He goes by Ohyo56 and has lots to view.
