  1. Yes, but one turn may not be enough. I had to turn mine 3 or 4 turns if I recall. The point where you file is on the aluminum cover where it sits over the rod. If you check out scrollsaws.com there are pictures to guide you. A whole section there on Dewalt fixes. Very informative and should apply to your saw in most cases. To edit: I never saw a video on that particular subject. All the videos I've seen were for disassembling the saw to check out and grease all the bearings/sleeves. The only thing you should have to remove to do what I'm talking about is up where the off/on switch/tension lever is. You have to get under that cover to see the rod. The cover goes over the rod if I recall
  2. All of that looseness should go away as soon as you apply tension. And you answered my question regarding which set you have. I now go back to my original suggestion. I think that will fix your problem. I know it did on my Dewalt when it started knocking. It does make noise.
  3. Those chuck heads will be loose when not under tension. Once you apply tension with the lever, the slack should disappear. They don't really need to be over tightened with your hex hey. Don't do anything to ruin them. I don't think that's your problem. Did you buy the chucks with the white nylon flip lever or did you buy the chucks made for the Dewalt type of saw? If you are still using the tension slide lever I assume you don't have the flip lever. If you have the flip lever, then you just need to adjust the slide lever to the correct setting and leave it there. All your tensioning will be done by the flip lever. The knockin you are referring to is the rod that goes from the slide lever clear up and back to a sliding wedge in the upper case. It is hitting the aluminum cover that is over it. I'd bet on it.
  4. That might be true and if so, it just backs up what I said. The old saying, "buy the best and cry only once" still holds true. Especially if you are going to make your living with it. Do try that fix though. It does sound like after much use, the tension rod has pulled the sliding wedge too many times and has worn the slot so the rod needs to be shortened up to take out the slack. It's not a hard adjustment. Also, there is a spot on the cover plate that requires filing down to relieve it so the rod can't hit the plate. Again, not a hard fix. As long as the saw still saws, there are things that can be done to prolong the inevitable.
  5. Ok, I think I have found the best way to go. It's a Simpson construction bracket and it will do just what I want with a few more holes drilled in it and some scribe marks. It'll last a lifetime, especially mine. EDIT: After reading further it seems that this bracket is 6 x 6 so it won't work. Dang!!! But it might work if I cut it down to what I want. Maybe? Time will tell.
  6. DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM MAINLAND CHINA!!! If you are going to buy a new saw, the King, Excelcior, Pegas, Seyco would be my suggestion. All from Taiwan, probably the same factory. But, the Excaliburs are from China and nothing but trouble. Or try the used market in your area. Just no Chinese junk.
  7. That sounds like maybe the tension rod is hitting the cover plate just the same as the Dewalts do. There is a fix on scrollsaws.com for the Dewalt. Not difficult if it's the same thing. I've not seen a Delta taken down so I'm not sure.
  8. Thanks everybody. Lots if great info and suggestions. The Japanese woodworkers & craftsmen have some neat tools. Life is just too short.
  9. I missed it thinking those were all drill bits. Jolly good!
  10. Where'd you find those chucks? They look good.
  11. No, it has to have that fold so it wraps around the 2x. And the hole patterns for quick marking drill holes. I won't be buying the one on ebay for sure and probably won't buy the one on Amazon either. Worst case, I make my own. It just looked like something handy. The Incra looks neat too but those tiny holes so close together make my eyes hurt. Oh well, it was just a thought. At my age I should stop buying stuff I don't need. I lost another friend last week who I knew since 3rd grade. The reaper is getting too close.
  12. I make a lot of things using just 2 x 4's and to have this it would speed up marking and measuring. I thought it looked handy for what I do. I might just fab one out of some tin stock or something but for $12, it might just be easier to buy it.
  13. Fuel costs are causing high shipping costs. Along with trucker shortage. Might I ask why you want to ship it and what brand of saw it is? Unless it's one of the top end saws it would be better just to sell it if you can.
  14. I'm sorry to hear about your wife's knee surgery but happy to hear that she is recovering. I've got both knees that give me fits from time to time also. I just found some stuff that seems to help with the joint pain and inflammation. It's called MSM powder. I bought it on Amazon. a half tea spoon twice a day dissolved in warm water or whatever beverage you choose. I use warm water as it dissolves faster. Anyway, it seems to work. My knees haven't hurt for 2 days in a row.
  15. I have been watching a ton of videos done by a Japanes craftsman and he has a lot of U.S. made tools even though he is in Japan. He pulled this little square out the other day and used it for marking drill holes in a 2 x 4 and I decided that I need one. I've tried every description and name I can think of and even gone on a couple of the Chinese supply sites but still nothing. I'm hoping someone here has one or at least knows what I'm talking about.
  16. Dan, seriously, you should seek help. Lol.
  17. Keep both. Nice having more than 1 saw.
  18. Thanks Wick, I will print and frame that. Never seen or heard it before.
  19. Although a different situation tha yours, my wife and I spent the best 3 years of our lives out on the road. We had a 1 ton crew cab dually Chevy Duramax/Allison pulling a 36 foot Hitchhiker 5th wheel trailer. We sold everything except a few family things which were in a 6 x 8 ft storage unit. We thought at first about work camping but soon gave that idea up as we did not want to be on anybody's schedule but our own. It was wonderful. Have fun.
  20. Like the age old question about how optimists and pessimists an engineers see a glass half full of water. The optimists see it as half full, the pessimists see it as half empty and the engineers say, we should have made the glass bigger.
  21. When I took up scrolling, I never dreamed it would become so complicated or confusing. Thanks Wick.
  22. Both pretty good durable saws too.
