  1. Absolutely, just make the top piece to accommodate the mounting holes of your saw and then fit it to a triangular base. When I built my 2 saw stands (2 Excaliburs) I built them in a 4 legged manner and I sort of regret it but I was thinking of installing drawers in the stand so it had to be a quad setup. Anyway, If I had it to do over again, I'd build it with 3 legs so I could straddle the single leg. My stands both have a vacuum system inside of them and are plumbed to a cyclone dust catcher and then up to the saw with plumbing to both top and bottom of the table. I used the little MetroVac 500 vacuums and they work great. I incorporated 2 7" wheels at the far end so I can pick up the front end and move the stands like a wheel barrow. I like to work outdoors when the weather permits. That's why I wanted the onboard dust control.
  2. Paul, please forgive me if I created a situation that you didn't need. I was and still am very worried about you. After losing Rockytime it doesn't take much to set me to worrying. Everybody here on SSV means so much to me that I notice whenever someone is absent for longer than a couple of days. I'm very sorry to hear of your wife's health struggle and yours too. At least you have each other to lean on. Drop us a note when you have time. We will all be praying for you both.
  3. Thanks, I forgot about him. My bad!
  4. The only Kevin I know on here just posted above you.
  5. I did PM him but no reply yet.
  6. I'm a bit worried about Paul (Scrappile). Haven't seen anything from him in a while.
  7. Regarding the mention of luan plywood, when I first started scrolling, I had some luan scraps from a RV remodel that I had done and was using them for practice. I had the worst allergic reaction of my life from that wood. It was also before I got smart and bought a good respirator mask. Anyway, just a word of warning to anybody who may be sensitive to that type of fine dust. For me luan is the worst. I'll not use it at all.
  8. Has anybody any news on Alex's situation? I've not heard anything.
  9. I've not had a problem. Just a tiny dot of oil is all it takes.
  10. Gonzo, I'm the same way. Not ambidextrous but able to use both sides for different tasks. I bat righthanded and bowl lefty. I was a champion pistol shooter lefty. Pour coffee righty.
  11. I made sure to keep a drop of oil on the roller axles so they will roll when being applied or unapplied. So far so good. Put a dot on each one with a marker so you can tell they actually roll.
  12. After reading all the posts from those of you who swear by top feeding, I think I'll stick to what I've been doing for the last 7 years. Bottom feeder I am, I am.
  13. I find it easier to bottom feed leaving the lower clamp intact and being able to see the top clamp for re-attachment. I tried top feeding and fought with not being able to see what I was doing with the bottom clamp.
  14. Atta Boy Frank, never say die. You're going to love that saw once you strip off the junk you don't need.
  15. Well, to the trained eye, watch for the size of the table, whether it has the center piece for the blade hole, look at the type of spring at the rear. Newer ones have a coil spring rather than the zig-zag type. It should have the tension lever at the front(rear ?) and a Quick clamp to make it all right. Then, ask for all the blade clamp holders, and the Tee wrench. A quick look at the bellows too. They are usually shot but can be replaced by a CV boot. Make sure it's a variable speed too. If it has all that stuff and looks like it's not been run over by a truck, it's a good deal at $500-600. Nothing more because they pop up all the time. I'm watching one now that has nothing mentioned and the seller thinkis it's worth $1000 because he looked them up on the net and knows nothing about all the changes over the years. I've contacted many sellers trying to educate them The one I bought for $40 I told the seller they were nuts and it was worth 10 times that amount to the right buyer. She said they just wanted it out of their garage so I drove about 75 miles each way to get it.
  16. Too bad you are where you are. There are 4 Hegners for sale near me that all look good. Some price haggling would be necessary but I'm sure they could be talked into lowering their prices. It's all in knowing what is on the saw and what it's lacking. That last one I bought for $40 and put another $100 into it did get me $400 because it was a nice saw once I fixed it up. This one has been on the Marketplace for 10 weeks so I'm sure he'll deal. It's nice saw and only needs the Quick clamp to make it great. And that could be fabbed it you have any skills. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1279570249178765/?ref=search&referral_code=marketplace_search&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Afbfce953-ca77-4b83-9cbd-efa8b8f3ab38
  17. I have both Ex & Hegner. I prefer the Ex but I keep the Hegner for quick work. If that makes sense. I keep a #5 mgt blade in it and can just walk up to it and cut. At some point I'm going to force myself to really learn it. Since I learned on a Dewalt the Ex just feels like comfortable slippers.
  18. I found some others in the same price & configuration. Around $105. Kinda neat.
  19. Can you supply a link to the dp?
  20. I've got 2 Ex's and both of mine have spring-loaded pins that must be pulled out to move the saw body and locate themselves into preset holes at popular settings. I don't find them cumbersome at all. I just make sure they are firmly seated in the holes.
  21. Great minds think alike!
  22. On last night's new, it showed Kherson being overrun by the Russians. Prayers going out to all of Ukraine.
  23. When I first started I found the practice patterns were boring. I found some simple objects like cars, boats, airplanes etc were far more fun even if they looked like dung when finished. I still have my first cut, a duck, signed and dated so I can look back at where I started. Thanks for promoting the hobby and keeping the interest going.
  24. Thanks Charley but neither of those links are clickable.
  25. Thanks Charley, I found the exact same switch on Amazon under a different name and it's black instead of gray. But, it's now $50 instead of $20. Times have changed.
