  1. This says it all Kevin,
  2. First of all, welcome to the SSV. I love the Brits. We watch nothing but British TV. As to your question, I have 3 saws with foot pedals that are what we refer to as "dead man" in that the saw only runs while my foot is on the pedal and if I lift, the saw stops. Some folks prefer the on/off type pedals where you have to tap the pedal to start the saw and tap again to stop it. I'm not familiar with what you describe. I have my saw plugged into the foot pedal and the foot pedal is plugged into the wall outlet. The switch on the saw is left in the ON position all the time. I think the way your saw is made is to protect the user from if the power goes out and the saw stops, when the power comes back on again, the saw won't start on it's own. We call that a "magnetic switch". I had one on my Delta Unisaw. I hope you get it figured out. Best of luck in your new hobby. But, let me warn you, it's addictive. All consuming. Be sure to post pictures of your work.
  3. The use of vise-grips tells me all I need to know.
  4. Norm, I was thinking the same thing. I had a good customer/friend named Thurman and knew an Irving. But until now, no Algernons. Mission complete.
  5. You wanna sell them? How much?
  6. Excellent! I'll bet the ones on Amazon aren't. Why are you buying another saw? Just curious. For the paint job or ???
  7. Where was it made?
  8. They might mean that the Pegas chucks are lighter than the original Excalibur chucks. Not sure but that would be my guess. I put a set on my Dewalt prior to selling that saw and had no problem with them.
  9. Ralph, is your saw a Taiwan or Canadian mfgr? Green? That saw on Amazon is probably from China at that price.
  10. It is either a defective set of chucks or there problem is with your saw. I'd contact the Pegas vendor and request an exchange set to verify. There are too many satisfied users of these chucks so I think you either got a bad set or there is something out of whack on your saw.
  11. You realize that you WILL have to explain your new name? We will all be waiting with bated breath.
  12. Excellent! Thanks.
  13. My shop isn't much bigger than your spray booth.
  14. For that $1400, I have bought a Dewalt 12" miter saw, a Delta 14" bandsaw, 2 Excaliburs, 1 Hegner and a Delta 10 drill press. All used of course but what the heck, money IS money. Especially at my age.
  15. You can always buy the King. I think they are available through Woodcraft. Not positive.
  16. Yes, that's the one. He did buy the plunge base but I remember that he changed out the springs. I don't recall him spending that much though. I don't think his had the light or blower port either. Looks like they've added a couple of things and bumped the price. Very well made though.
  17. That was an idea that Frank came up with. It seems to make sense. Also, regarding the plunge base, some time back this same discussion was going on and Rockytime talked about a high-end router base meant for guitar makers. Price at around $100 it was out of the realm of most of us but he bought one, made a couple of modifications to it and loved it. Very accurate and no slop. Made to last forever. I sure miss him.
  18. To ask the obvious, have you checked eReplacementparts.com? I'd be surprised if they can't supply the part you need. They also respond to questions regarding other brand names that were the same as your P-C dp.
  19. They just work better and are lighter weight. I have 2 Ex's and changed both to Pegas. Believe me, they make a difference. Are they worth $100 a set, no. But that's just the way of the world now. In Switzerland they're probably $10 a set.
  20. I use mostly Watch Danish oil and I let it set for about 3 days if I plan on any overcoat finish. So far, no problem. I have also oiled and then hit it with a coat of paste wax.
  21. I have an old shallow tuna box from Costco that I lay patterns in to spray. I take that box, step outside and spray. For painting or finishing I have 4 pieces of cardboard that I use to form a mini spray booth on top of my bench. I also use a $3 plastic lazy Susan.
  22. I can't say positively. But the mechanism is very similar to the Dewalt so it might be worth a try. Call Ray ay Seyco.com and see what he thinks. If anybody would know I'd think it would be him.
  23. You are a good man Ike.
