  1. That's great news Brenda. I don't want to hear about losing another scroller for a good long while.
  2. Adjusting the upper arm is going to be her answer.
  3. Scott, I'm no professional by any means but from all I've read on the subject, it seems that clear laquer is the go-to finish for both finish and clean up. Or maybe a water based poly. I'm sure others will be chiming in and I'll be watching for sure. I wish I had room for all the stuff I want.
  4. I agree Paul. My woodshop teacher was a great man by the name of Jack Cohen. He's about the only teacher that I can remember. I can still see him standing up on top of one of the woodbenches and demonstrating how to use a router. When they discontinued shop classes they stopped many people from entering into the trades and now we have a shortage of people who know how to fix stuff. I'd love to see Trade Schools make a come back. Of course, they'll have to hire people like us to teach them how to teach the kids.
  5. What do "gal" boots look like? Maybe do a flip of that boot and insert it in your pattern where the hat is. Up a bit higher there should be room. But I have no idea what a "gal" boot looks like.
  6. Sounds like your upper arm may have moved up and it's now too wide at the blade mounting area. If I'm not mistaken they are like the Pegas/Excalibur design. That upper arm has to be parallel to the table so that the blade opening remains the same.
  7. Thanks for the link. The more resources we have the better. Whenever something like this comes up, add it to the "Resource" link above.
  8. Thanks Dan. I'll file those sources away for next time. I remember asking here on the Village but nobody offered anything. Living where I do in a mobile home park I try not to use my planer any more than necessary but I might have to rethink that a bit. Most of my neighbors can't hear anyway lol.
  9. I'm curious where you found sapele Dan. When I needed it I couldn't find it anywhere so I ended up using mahogany. I needed it in 3/4" x 6" x 18".
  10. I am not a "leader" but I sure would have loved to have been one of your helpers that night. I always wished I would have had a grandchild to teach what I know but it was not to be. Keep up the great job you are doing. We need to nurture the future craftspeople or nothing will ever get fixed.
  11. Find a good thrift store and donate your stuu. Let gem decide what will sell. Making decisions is the hard part. Let them do it.
  12. Thanks Jim. Good info. I don't have that problem on either of my saws but I am going to look at the motor alignment just to be sure they are both sitting correctly.
  13. I tried every way I could to figure out what that meant. Typo? What?
  14. "Leakers"?????
  15. Changed Products to Blades, Tools, Clock Parts, Other Changed Shipping Location to Los Angeles, Ca.
  16. If you can live with just HS bits, I just found that OttoFrei.com has them in 10 packs for $5.50 plus tax and mailing. I'm ordering 4 packs of 56, 57, 59, 60 and it's going to run me $30. Qtena.com has cobalt for $12.95 per 10 pack.
  17. I'll bet your table is just a tad off center. Either by the wrong mounting or a factory defect. Either way, it should be somewhat adjustable.
  18. This is something that I inquired about a while back. I don't have the problem that you have as mine is fairly well centered in the table slot. I was just wondering about centering the blade in the clamps so they are planar if that is the correct word. Regular scroll saws have set screws that can be moved right or left on both clamps in order to get the blade so that it is running straight up and down, top to bottom but on the Hegners you have to rely on the clamps finding a "happy" place on both ends and hope they more or less center up. I've got the Quick clamp on both of my saws and they both seem to cut ok. Jim, is there any way to loosen your table and maybe adjust it so that the blade is centered? I've never checked mine to see if there is any "slop" in the mounting holes. That may solve your problem.
  19. Yes, it's a much better situation for you. A worthwhile trip for sure. $5/gal here and never a pleasant journey anywhere until you get out of town and that takes at least a half day. Too crowded.
  20. I love it Charley!
  21. Thanks Kevin. That's great advice and I will try it tomorrow. The little 8" press went a while back. I bought a 10" one for $125 with a stand. Then I put my little 8" one on C/L for $125 and sold it right away. I only had $45 in the 8" one. So, once again, I'm ahead. This d/p is in very good shape and I'm happy with it now that I know everything is good on it.
  22. Have you given any thought to using Ken?
  23. It would cost $50 here to buy that same 10 gallons so the savings would have to be pretty good. Wear and tear on the car and me the driver has to factor into it too. I'm getting ready to place an order with Cherokee Woods and the shipping for everything I'm ordering will be $17. For that, I'm not going to fight the traffic.
