  1. Why is it Paul, every used Hegner that I look at has a bad bellows or none at all? Not that that is all that important but it's just an example I through out there. My point is that the parts for Hegners, all of them, are very expensive when the need arises. And their shipping seems exorbitant too. I've never seen a Hawk with a bad bellows. Rubber as compared to whatever that stuff is on the Hegner. Anyway, I've used both saws. I liked the Hawk that I had but it was just too big for my shop. Right now I've get 2 Hegners, trying to sell one of them. They both run quite well and take up very little space. I'm not in love with their stands but that's just me. If I was offered either saw for free or at a good price, I'd not bat an eye at either one. And you are right, the Hegners will always have parts and customer service unless something drastic happens. I think that Bushton has finally gotten it figured out and will continue to improve their operation. As I stated, I'd not be gun shy of either one. Top feeding for me is not an issue.
  2. Very similar mechanisms but I think the main thing is how they are tensioned. I've have both and the Hegner has a tension rod that has to be tensioned every time you change blade holes unless it is a newer one or had the upgraded upper arm installed that has the rear tension release lever. Knowing what I do now, and if I had the space, I'd buy a Hawk mainly because of cost of maintenance and parts. The Hegners are very expensive if any parts are needed. Even their cheap plastic/rubber bellows is like $45 plus shipping. The Hawks can be repaired quite cheaply. I had the 26" Ultra and it was a big saw. I may at some point try to find a 20" Hawk.
  3. That's very strange. I did it to mine and also added a white tape line on the knob so I could check it at a glance. Mine is old enough that it doesn't have the white line from the factory. I recall when Kevin was having this problem with his Chinese EX and did the rubber band trick so I did it and it has worked for me. He eventually had to take his saw all apart and while it was apart he did something to the threaded plate that the tension rod screws into. I don't recall what he did. Maybe just some blue LocTite or something like that to tighten up the threads. Are you having trouble keeping the upper arm from "falling"? Maybe tighten up the adjusting screw on the left side to help keep it up. I'm sure you've already tried that too but I'm just brainstorming here.
  4. Your saw should be from Taiwan. Only the later version of the EX21 comes from China as far as I know.
  5. Roberta, there is an easy fix for the tension knob turning and losing tension. Wrap a rubber band around the threaded shaft that the knob attaches to. Yhen twist it a couple of times and stretch it down and hook it to one of the screws that are there on the right side. You'll have to replace it every once in a while but it keeps the tension knob from turning on it's own. I've had to do it to my "green" Canadian EX21.
  6. Our good friends have a small farm in Tennessee. Look up Rowdy Dogs Farm on FB. She posts tons of great pics of their critters including many chickens and roosters. She puts out a calendar each year so I know she has what you want.
  7. I'd just do a google image search for it and them make your own pattern. Not hard at all.
  8. That's great news to hear. The Bushton reputation has taken a hard hit here and on other forums so the more you can publicize your experience in the different venues, the better for them. Much appreciated here, I'm sure. Oh, congrats on your new machine. They truly are a working miracle in their simplicity. Once tuned and maintained, you should never have to worry about buying another saw.
  9. I will be thinking of you. Too far to drive.
  10. You're very lucky.
  11. I guess that's the "for better or worse" part. We shoulda asked more questions.
  12. I figured that would come with it.
  13. I'd buy your Duramax.
  14. I feel your pain Brother!
  15. Is it a Chinese Excalibur? If yes, that's the problem. If not, call Ray at Seyco.
  16. Me thinks you are "over-thinking" the issue. I just tension til it feels right. Pluck the blade and it's either "plunk" or "pling".
  17. I posted about this video a while back when we were discussing marquetry. Even though it's all in Spanish, I comprehend just enough to understand a good share of it. I found it very informative.
  18. Just keep on "kickin' like a chikin'"
  19. Nothing political here Paul. I was just explaining myself to Brenda and saying that I go along with the rules and regs. No politics.
  20. Kevin, I have no idea how often you get a load like that but have you thought of going into the scroll saw wood business? It might prove to be profitable. You're getting the wood for free so it's just the milling. The rest is profit.
  21. Not the same thing. I vent to let folks know how I feel. If I offend somebody along the way, well, that's life. Not here though. I've learned my lesson for broaching any touchy subject matter here. And I agree, this is not the place for it. I truthfully never read all the rules and regs. I just said I'd abide by them. Fine print is not my forte. Anyway, this subject has not become boring so I'll get on with making some form or air pollution.
  22. I envy you on many counts. The wood. The truck. The space you have. The wife who allows you to have all of the above. Congrats on your windfall.
  23. Obviously you don't have a need to vent. I use FB as my escape valve. That's why I have 4 accounts and I.D.'s They keep putting me in their form of jail so I keep creating new accounts. If I couldn't release from time to time, I'd blow my top.
