  1. Jordan, I used the 1/4" oak veneer mdf for valentine's cutting. Cuts great, blade held to line much better than plywood, and edges look great. Did create a lot of dust so respirator was a must. Made three of them. While putting the base on them, two of them shattered as if they were made of glass. Does not have the bounce and springiness that plywood has. Will make great backer board and should work great for "non-fragile" work. (let's see now - WPIDH) Larry
  2. Great work. Thanks for sharing and for the encouragement. Larry
  3. Thanks Larry
  4. Both presses are good ideas. Now I know why I kept a couple of scissor jacks on hand. Larry
  5. Thanks everyone. 50 is a good number as some have already found out and others are looking towards it. Yes, she has grit. Also has spunk and also has me. Three out of three can't be beat The numbers were made from a piece of a red vinyl folder. I cut off a piece and sandwiched it between two pieces of wood. First time I have done that. Font is Tropicana but I backed out of doing all the fancy stuff on that font. 1 4 3 - Our "special" code for over 50 years. I (1) Love (4) You (3). Thanks again Larry
  6. Was not sure if this needed to go in General forum or in Bragging Rights. Made this for our 50th Wedding Anniversary which is today. (Pattern by Steve Good that I modified a bit). Cut from Pecan that was harvested across the street from where we were married. Larry
  7. Paul - Sorry that did not work. Got the info off the internet and we all know everything on the internet is true?? Dick - that explains why some of the blades I pick up after I drop a new one cut like a used blade. Larry
  8. That will be a hit as in home run not a strike out. Larry
  9. Hans, Those are still good even if they are wrong. Larry
  10. Paul - Here's a trick that might help to demagnetize the hemostat: To magnetize a screwdriver. Hold screwdriver by handle and lay it on a magnet. Pull the screwdriver across the magnet toward you. Do this on as much of the blade as you can. This makes the trons (don't remember if it is neutrons, protrons, or electrons) all point in the same direction, causing magnetism. To demagnetize the screwdriver. Hold screwdriver by handle and lay it on a magnet and push it away from - opposite direction moved to make it sticky. This is supposed to get the trons all mixed up magnetism is lost. Might try this with the hemostat. Just start in one direction check it and if still sticky try the opposite way. You can lay a magnetized screwdriver blade on a vice and whack it with a hammer and this will stop the magnetism. This would probably ruin the hemostat. Course, the magnetized hemostat could come in handy to pick up the 3/0 blade that was just dropped to the floor. (Course I may be the only one that does that) Larry
  11. I bottom feed also. Have a pair of small needle nose pliers nearby so I can use them to grab the blade when I poke it through. I then hold tension on the blade so wood slides down to table. Helps to keep me from crimping the blade. The hemostat could be used for this also. Like the pin. Using it, if you cannot see it you should be able to feel it - at least I would. I also only do 10-12 holes at a time so I can get up and move around to loosen up. Noticed you left the 4. off of "finish the highball".
  12. I just recently found a "spiral" hack saw blade. It would make the cut after you drilled a pilot hole to feed the blade through. Larry
  13. Mike shows 3 types of metal blades but do not know if they will do what you need. https://www.mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm Anyway you could use hack saw to get to general shape then file to get it just right? Larry
  14. A good quality oil-based exterior paint without the color added is what I would use. Before you write this off a "he done inhaled too much saw dust and flipped his lid" read information at this link. http://askhlm.com/Articles/ArticleViewPage/tabid/75/ArticleId/26/Paint-On-A-Clear-Finish.aspx For more finish information here is more http://askhlm.com/Articles.aspx Larry
  15. Ray, You might find some ideas here. Larry
  16. That is what I use. Just remember - No small pieces for 3 years and younger. Larry
  17. Or perhaps: Larry
  18. So a group of "saw whisperers" we be? They talk to us, we talk to them and each understands the conversation. Larry
  19. Sometimes we luck out, sometimes we don't. Love it when a plan comes together. That will be a nice project. Larry
  20. Woodcraft.com plan is no longer available. Did find these: http://www.woodworkersworkshop.com/store/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=04_FS_105 http://www.foreststreetdesigns.com/Forest_Street_Designs_ALPINE_WO/World_Map_Plan.html Larry
  21. I use a pair of goatskin driving gloves a bunch when working wood. No problem with them when scrolling. Like any "new" tool in the shop they take a little getting used to and the more they are used the better they work. And I have a thicker pair of leathers I use when working the belt sander. Rather see the leather on the gloves getting "burnished" than having it happen to my skin. Larry
  22. Maybe a start up for Larry
  23. I used hair dryer once and heat gun another time. Still takes some pressure to get it on. Found out a pair of leather gloves lets you get it hotter and still hold on to it. Both times popped right on there. Pressure with one arm or a helper on one side of arm and push on the other side. (I forget how many times I had to stomp on the floor) Larry
  24. Just a reminder - the new 40-694 comes with a 5 year warranty. However, if the repair center is not close by - mine is 150 miles away - may make the warranty not very good. A day getting it there. Another day to pick it up. If mine needs it, it is take apart and get er done time. Study the parts diagram and take pictures as you take apart. http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-40694-variable-speed-scroll-saw-parts-c-3275_3505_418339.html?q=40-694 http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-40690-type-scroll-saw-parts-c-3275_3505_157559.html?q=40-690 (page B) Larry
  25. Many times our "payment" for the special gifts do not come in dollars but in something much greater. Larry
