  5. Larry Scroller on another forum had this situation back in March. Several of us helped him to find one. A couple of pots were located but not exact matches but might have worked. At the end he decided to order the pot/card combo. His thinking was if the pot went bad how soon before the old card could quit also. Links we used to locate pot/card under $80.00 in case the RS pot does not work. 9. Got mine and have been using them for two days now. WHAT A DIFFERENCE they make with my trifocals. Only two problems with them 1)have to remember to flip them up when I move around cause they make the floor/ground appear closer than it really is. 2) took so long to find out about these. Got them at Hobby Lobby with 40% off coupon. Also noticed they are available at Amazon, Walmart, etc. This link shows picture of them. http://shop.hobbylobby.com/products/clip-and-flip-magnifying-glasses-958272/ From a TV comedy show long ago “Looking Goodâ€. 13. Following link was posted by Randy at Scroll Saw Woodworking forum awhile back. Looks like a good video to help us keep the yeller and gray machines making dust and making it silently (or almost silently) 2012-12-03 Scroll Saw Maintenance by Scrolling SIG (1h26m02s) - YouTube Larry
  14. Larry The first link shows photos of various "hold downs" for the fret saw. Second link shows fret saw in action with a simple holding system. https://www.google.com/search?q=haND+FRET+SAWING&safe=active&biw=1280&bih=587&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=4spwVK6YLcmXNvnzgtAI&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkmk0nCKPRE Maybe a little help. 15. Found the fireworks video. Different person. Larry
  16. Just took time to watch it myself. Believe he, or his brother, or one of his family did a video a few years back on homemade fireworks. Lit the fuse, large bang, room fills with smoke then you see him picking himself up and states something like "Guess I used a little to much magnesium in that one†Had smoke burns all over his face. If that is the same person, that much smoking may be a way he uses still trying to calm his nerves. Larry
  17. Read some posts lately about lack of instructions on the 40-694. This video may give some help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oRjwJeAXPLY Larry
  18. I have the Delta 40-690 - the DW 788 clone. After using it for nearly 3 years, I would be happy with the 788 or 40-694. The 788 has a 3 yr warranty. the 694 as 5 yr warranty. And the EX 21 would fit nice also. If there is anyway you can try one out it could help with the decision. Larry
  19. To answer your question - Yes. To explain my answer - Sometimes I use a trow away piece. Sometimes I don't. (Like the old commercial "Sometimes you feel like a nut, Sometimes you don't.") Depends on what blade I use, what wood I use, and mostly if I remember to add one. When I am cutting, I use my 4 in 1 tool. Cut awhile and while giving the saw a break, sand the bottom of the bottom piece with the 4 in 1. Gives some support when sanding. Cut some more, sand, etc. When cutting is finished only a little left to sand on the bottom. Plus I think removing the fuzies as I cut makes the wood move better. I hand sand or use orbital sander. Even when I have piece wraped in painters tape, I will sand but by hand then. Larry
  20. Couple of old posts on Niqua and FD Blades. Interesting reading and could answer some questions on this post. Looks like, at least back then, they be the same. http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/tools-and-blades/34573.htm http://www.scrollsawer.com/forum/tools-and-blades/6156.htm Larry
  21. Welcome Dan, We can share in some converstaions here also. Larry
  22. Dick, Thanks for pointing out the concern on the pivot bearing. Be easy to put too much tight there. I took that part out of my post here. Been using it this way since I got the saw. Been thinking about these for awhile. http://www.stevedgood.com/dewaltman.pdf Larry
  23. I have the 40-690 which is the 788 clone. The 40-694 looks the same but has different part numbers. The 690 and 788 have the same part numbers. I have had the 690 since apr 2012. Been and still is a great saw for me. Here is link to manual. http://www.deltamachinery.com/downloads/manuals/scroll_saws/40-694/40-694_Scroll_Saw_Manual_E-S.pdf Here is info I posted on these in April: I have the Delta 40-690 which is the DW788 clone – almost identical except the 690 has Delta on it and its painted gray. When you look at the manual for the 690 and 788 the part numbers are the same. And at ereplacementparts, if they have part for one, they have part for the other. (Maybe when DeWalt and Delta were together they designed the 690 to get rid of all the 788 parts they had on hand and thought they would never get rid of because they last so good??) The 694 is a 690 with changes. The 694 arm will stay up without assistance and some type of “box†was added on the left side. Some of the parts may be the same but the 694 has total different part numbers. Parts list from ereplacementparts show they have a fairly good selection of parts. I have added link to 40-695 parts – believe you will find that the 695 is a 694 with light and stand included when purchased?) 40-695 (40-694 w/stand and light) Delta 40-695 Parts List and Diagram - (Type 1) : eReplacementParts.com 40-690 Delta 40-690 Parts List and Diagram - (Type 1) : eReplacementParts.com DW788 DeWALT DW788 Parts List and Diagram - Type 1 : eReplacementParts.com Larry
  24. Bearings? Larry
  25. On my 40-690 I run the shop vac brush nozzle over the switch each day when through cutting. I also have the HF foot switch. Some with foot switch turn saw switch on and put clear tape over it. I still use the saw switch since I do not like my foot hitting the foot switch when I am changing blades as that tends to knock on the knuckles a little too much. Part of my shutdown is to vacum dust of myself and the saw. (If I said so far no problem, saw probably would not start tomorrow. So I wont say that.) Larry
