  1. Place your drink on a stool in front of the treadmill just out of reach while you run. You will find yourself running faster and faster as you try to reach the drink. Larry
  2. I believe that is the National Leaders Tree illusion. Information shows it was drawn in 1880s by unknown artist for Harper's. One can do a search for National Leaders Tree for more information and solutions. Larry

  5. Post #8 is link to DW788 repair video. Shows you how to do the bearings and much, much more. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/16873-dw788-service/?hl=788 Larry Post I made in 2013 shows the same bearing numbers that Don R shows. Just looked up price at vxb and they are also the same. HK0609 12 ea HK7492 2 ea HK7189 2 ea. I have not changed the bearings on my 40-690 which are the same nor have I ordered the bearings. I provide this information as something I have read on the internet and we all know what you read on the internet is true?
  6. Also known as Catawba or Fish Bait Tree. I have used it. Scrolls nicely. However, about 45 minutes into cutting I developed a burning sensation under my wrist watch and a little later removed watch and had some nice blistering started and red itchy hands. Did have resperiator on. Wound up the oil in the wood and me do not mix. I some reading up on the wood and found that many people are alergic to it. I finished the project with rubber gloves and long sleeves. Also had on some flip flops instead of real shoes - saw dust did same thing to feet. This link gives some good information and does show pore-filling is necessary for a smooth finish. http://www.wood-database.com/lumber-identification/hardwoods/catalpa/ Do a search for fish bait tree. Larry
  7. Good cutting. I have keyless chucks for my Dremels. Can use the smallest bits in them. Here is link about them. http://www.amazon.com/Dremel-4486-MultiPro-Keyless-Chuck/dp/B0000302ZV Larry
  8. Use the largest bit that will fit into the cutting area and getting the blade up from the bottom will be easier. Larry
  9. Phillip, I am "tone" deaf. The only C note I recognize is a $100.00 bill. I tighten the blade until I get a nice clear tone when I pluck it with my finger. But for me that does not work when the blade in inserted in the wood then cannot get a clear tone, just a dull thump. For inside cuts I tighten blade until there is a slight give to the left or right when I push on the blade. If you do not purchase a tuning fork, you will have money to purchase more blades. Larry

  12. I use Ocooch Hardwoods also. Shipping cost I read this morning: for less than a $30.00 order is $13.00, then $30.00 to less than $70.00 is $15.00. Larry
  13. I use Baltic Birch plywood 1/8 and 1/4 inch. Blades are usually FD UR 1, 3, 5. But also use other FD blades including the new spirals. Sometimes use painter's tape but not always. If lot of delicate cuts then pattern direct to wood and remove with paint thinner. To cut down of fuzzies on bottom I use very inexpensive plywood (pieces cabinet shop throws away) as a backer for what I cut. Larry
  14. These are the only blades that I use. Larry
  15. I use Open Office. When I open Inkscape and select fonts only a few will show in the drop down window.. THEN, I close the fonts and when I reopen them all that are on the computer will show in the drop down window. Do not know why but that is how it does for me. Try this, it may open the fonts in Open Office. I did have to download many of the fonts I use in scrolling because they were not standard for the computers I use. Larry
  16. Have not used this saw but i did find link for the manual if you need it: http://powertool.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/ryobi/sc155vs.html Larry
  17. I see four steps in learning something new: Step 1 Make decision to do it - You did that Step 2 Start it - You have done this Step 3 Practice - First cut was this step Step 4 Continue with step 3 - Second cut put you here forever. I starter scrolling with the spiral, then flats, now both. Larry
  18. I use them both. All programs have a learning curve but just riding a bicycle, the more you use them the easier it gets. Travis's tutorials are here http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forum/47-village-university/ and any question you have can be answered here. Larry

  21. The link will show size of bit for the different Flying Dutchman blades. And at the bottom of the page is info on the mini drill bits. Looks like they are available for your area. https://www.mikesworkshop.com/blades.htm Larry
  22. This SSV link shows snowman with Noel on sign. Pattern by Steve Good. I could not find the pattern on Steve's site with a quick look. Maybe Doug can give more information. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/gallery/image/8593-noel-snowman/ Larry
  23. Earlier this morning I changed blades on the scroll saw. As it started cutting I noticed a lot of fuzzies showing on the pattern. Suspecting something was not right, I stopped, took out the blade and inspected it. I discovered that the blade had a defect from the manufacturer. The teeth were pointing to the top of the blade not to the bottom as expected. Not wanting to throw the blade away I decided to try it by placing it upside down in the saw. It cut like a blade is supposed to do. I understand these symptoms that caught my attention are the same as when one places a blade in the saw the wrong way. A few days ago I had a blade that had the teeth on the back side of the blade. This problem was corrected by putting the blade in backwards. Anyone have these problems before? Larry
  24. Larry, This link has lots of info on knocking on the DW 788. Might give you some ideas on your 694. http://www.scrollsaws.com/SawReviews/DewltTuneUp.htm Larry
  25. Also great fan of anti-size compound on the scroll saw. Not only does it make turning easy, it also helps to keep the threads from gaulding (stripping out). Got mine at auto parts store. Larry
