  1. I have used the Walmart contact paper a bit. Really like it, especially on the vinyl records. The contact paper will pull the paper label from the record. Not good, but with a little heat from a hair dryer the contact paper will remove itself. Did find that the glue stick I use for small patterns will not hold to the contact paper. Larry.
  2. Very good work. Really like the pattern. Larry
  3. I use FD New Spiral #5 and smaller. I flatten the ends by tapping the ends flatter with a small hammer and small piece of railroad rail. Then sand the ends a bit. Takes a little of time but that gives me time to think about the cutting I am doing. If the ends are not flattened out they are easy to crimp and break and the clamp cannot get a good grip and the blade slips out a bit. Larry
  4. Your best bet may be to get an aquarium air pump. I did this on one of my saws. Found one at resale shop for $1.00. Actually works better than the factory diaphragm did. Larry
  5. The 40-690 listed is identical to the one I use except I have the stand and light in storage building. I have no problems with the saw except the brief periods of maintenance takes me away from cutting. If it was not so far to travel, I would make it two 40-690s in the shop. The 40-690 is as Kevin states, is a grey 788. So identical that the part numbers are the same as the 788 (except for the decals). I have looked at parts list at Delta, Dewalt, ereplacements and others. So I firmly state that as long as parts are available for the Dewalt 788, parts for the Delta 40-690 will be available. Larry
  6. Those are looking big and bright. What part of Texas do you winter in? Larry
  7. Spirals can be a pain to get them into the holders right. The ends need to be flattened out a bit. I do this with a small hammer and a flat piece of iron. Just tap the ends flat and they usually fit. Not to hard or a tap or you will crimp the blade which will cause it to break. Some say they use pliers to straighted out the ends. I use FD new spirals so I do not know if this works for all brands or not. I sometimes crimp the blade if I get the holders to tight. You may also be getting to much tension on the blade if you are using the small spirals. Larry
  8. Happy Thanksgiving to all. Be thankful and be safe. Larry

  12. For the used keeper blades, I fold a piece of painters tape around the top teeth slip it back into the package with the new ones. It is right there when I go to that size blade again and it can be the first out of the package. Larry

  16. Iggy, Here are some links where I have found "animal family" puzzles. I do the duck and elephant family from the first link. The second link has the rabbit family puzzle I cut. I got the pattern shown at the link several years ago as a free download from rockler. http://www.wooden-toy-plans.com/wooden_puzzle_plans.html http://www.rockler.com/scroll-sawn-bunny-rabbit-puzzle-plan Larry

  20. Iggy, The two links will give you the bearing numbers and a whole lot more. The Dw788 repair video is also included. I have them saved on my computer under DeWalt Bearings so I can find them when needed. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/16873-dw788-service/?hl=788 Post #8 http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/topic/10407-dw-788-bearings/ Post #2 Larry
  21. If My memory is correct and if I understand what I just looked up: Spiral Blades came first and are pretty much a flat blade that has been twisted into a spiral. Pretty much needed to use pliers to un-twist the end to get it to stay in the holders. hard to control - hard to get into holder but the best there was at the time. The Flat End Spiral was brought out (The flat end spiral - as stated above is not really flat. It is close to half spiral and half flat making it easier to get ready to place in the holders.) To bring about better control, The New Spiral Blade was developed several years ago and has teeth on both sides of the blade - a flat blade with teeth on both sides and twisted into a spiral. better control. Still has some twist on the ends. Sometimes I flatten the ends some and sometimes I put them in right out of the package. Spiral Reverse is latest design of the spiral. - spiral blades for all around cutting with reverse teeth on the bottom for a close to sand free finish. These just caught my interest. I use the new spiral. Have not tried the spiral reverse but will have to give them a try. Larry Added after initial posting: Bill and Jim made their posts as I was putting my thoughts on paper ( I could almost wear out a new spiral in the time it took me to get this post ready.)
  22. Hi Tabby. Here is a big Clyde,Texas welcome to a fellow Texan. Larry
  23. Go here: http://www.ereplacementparts.com/delta-40694-variable-speed-scroll-saw-parts-c-3275_3505_418339.html to see parts that are available for the 40-694. Go here: http://www.ereplacementparts.com/dewalt-dw788-type-scroll-saw-parts-c-1009_2631_207564.html to see parts that are available for the 788. I have the 40-690 which is the 788 clone. As you look at 788 parts list click on some of the part pictures, at the bottom of the picture page you will see that most of the parts are compatible with the 40-690. (You can also look at 40-690 parts list at ereplacementparts and find that most of those parts are compatible with the 788.) The part numbers on the 694 are different than the 690/788. Some posts on various sites indicate that some of the parts (bearings/sleeves) fit all three. Larry
  24. Thanks for the idea. I will be adding a catch try to my table. Wonder why I had not thought of that. Way too busy picking up sawdust and dusting myself off I guess. Larry
