  1. Seven layers plus a stand...… even if you stack cut you are only making 3 or 4 at a shot. I am think more like $30 if cut from plywood and $35-$40 if cut from hardwoods. Ralph, you did a wonderful job. I will have to make a few for my holiday show.
  2. I have made at least a twenty of the compound jig holders over the years. I give them away at demos. Mine are little different. I never use pine as it it to soft and warps and twist easily. I like a hard wood like maple. Instead of threaded rod I use carriage bolts. 1/4 or 5//16. What ever size I use I still the non permanent piece hole one size bigger to allow easy movement. The final step I take is to glue a piece of sand paper to the inside of the clamps. It makes a big difference.
  3. Russell love the design. Great idea.
  4. I see no issue with cross posting as not all our internet family frequent the same sites. However if I see something multiple times I typically only comment once.
  5. One more setup step to do. Get rid of the guard/hold down. It will only get in the way. Besides, to cut a finger off requires a minimum of two blade changes
  6. Yes Alex Fox has some great designs. I too have purchased and made a few.
  7. Kinda like driving along that back road near home. You know the one where no one travels and there is never radar so it is fine doing 55 in a 40. One day it will catch up to you and you will pay. Don't do it.
  8. Glad your losses were minimal. Praying for all.
  9. Hang in there brother. Praying for your recover. I have a spare saw if you need one.
  10. Per Ray Seymore when asked if the Seyco magnetic overlay will fit an EX-21 "Yes but the blade hole is a little larger than yours. You would line up with the blade hole and trim around the front and sides to fit the shape of your table."
  11. So sorry Scott. Last I heard is some of the rivers might not crest until mid week and then take several days to receed.
  12. Another reason to buy full 5'x5' sheets of Baltic Birch and break them down yourself as you need it. It may take some work to find it locally but it really is out there.
  13. You can't be a real wood worker. The shop is much to clean.
  14. Please pray for Iggy. He lives right by the projected landfall site of Florence. She looks like a bad one. I am also in the direct path but I am 150 miles from the landfall site. By the time it gets to me it should have pretty much blown herself out. Now if the ground can handle a foot or more of rain.
  15. All my saws, three working ones, are on factory stands. Very stable and I would much prefer to scroll then spend time making stands they may or may not work out.
  16. As kywoodmaster said paint will settle out over time. I found shaking is not always enough. Unscrew the top and using a thin piece of wood try mixing the paint.
  17. While this is not the only brand this is one of the most common in the US. If you local Home Depot does not have you should be able to get it in Lowes and ACE Hardware. Well at least in my part of the US. It should be available in California. It is made from alcohol and bug dropping (Shellac Beetle). BTW shellac is even used on candy.
  18. Yes dipping in sanding sealer will help a lot. You can also use spray poly or lacquer.
  19. I don't wear hearing protection on the scroll saw. I do with my planer and some other big tools. If your glasses are fogging up then your dust mask is not fitting properly.
  20. There are three kinds of foot switches. The most common is the kind where you step on it the saw goes and when you take your foot off it stops. This is a deadman switch. A less common type is the ones where you step on it once it goes and it continues to go until you step on it again. They are called continuous run switches. The third type is a speed control foot switch. This is the kind that the further you press down on the pedal the faster it goes. Like on a sewing machine. The last type SHOULD NEVER BE USED ON A SCROLL SAW.
  21. Duh.... Good catch.
  22. Jerry I believe the talk was about the on off switch. Not the speed controls. How do you change speed?
  23. We have all been there. Most shop accidents, either wrecked projects or personal injury, come on one last cut. It is easy to say but hard to do. Don't push yourself.
  24. In my shop I sit on a 29" wooden bar stool. All my saws are on factory stands and all flat. I am 5'8" and this setup works for me. The problem I had with tilting my saw and sitting was all the saw dust ended up in my lap. I also do demos for my wood working organization. When I do those I stand and then I can use the saw tilted.
  25. For openers on the Pegas clamps you can see the top of the blade. This is a great plus. On my original clamps I could never align thin blades to keep them from bending. On my Pegas clamps I have been using 2/0 blades with out a single issue.
