  1. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. A year or two back I found a pattern of a Nativity puzzle in either SSWC or Creative Woodworks. It is a pattern for a Nativity puzzle that when disassembled you stand the individual pieces up and it creates a nativity scene. I am sure I still have the magazine in my mess. I am just looking for help in find out which issue. For the record one of my to do's for 2015 was to create a better system of pattern inventory. You see why.....
  2. This is very true as long and the glue up is done correctly. If is kinda hard to explain without pictures. When you look at the end of the board you see rings or part of the rings. When the glue is done correctly the rings on one board will go up and the next board will go down and so on.
  3. I find when I have to do multiples I come up with time saving measures. Also you get into a rhythm and you actually go faster.
  4. While the site is up they have a long way too go to get the kinks outs. I used to work in IT and problems are handled in triage fashion. That is the most serious or issues impacted the most users are addressed first. Give them to the end of the month. Steven if you give up too soon you only hurt yourself.
  5. MS will give you the chance to upgrade for free for a year (through July 29, 2016). I plan to wait until after the first of the year so they get the kinks worked out.
  6. Just saw I post by BobD that they disabled that requirement. It was a default setting to prevent spiders from posting.
  7. Well I can see the new forum but I can't post.... I get a message "Missing human verification information." If someone can post please let them know there is at least one user with issues. My handle on that forum is NC Scroller.
  8. It looks like the URL changed so I think folks will need to re-bookmark the site.
  9. SSWC is in the progress of migration the forum to new software. The prior site was on a platform that was not supported and lacked some security. They posted this on their Facebook page yesterday. "Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine Looks like sometime this week. The import went well; we're just double checking the settings and the overall look of the forum." Hopefully by the end of the week and we will once again have two sites to get our scrolling fixes.
  10. Sorry Zen but I bought my Type 2 in 2002. From what I understand the last Type 1's were made in 1999-2000.
  11. Zen, look on the motor. It should say Type 1 or Type 2. If a Type 1 it was made in North America and a great machine.
  12. Blades come with a light oil coating on them to keep them from rusting. Trying lightly sanding or wiping with alcohol the blade ends before inserting them in the holder.
  13. I think if you are the one who took the photo during a public appearance then you have the right else you technically are in copyright violation. Now I doubt Dale Jr or a member of his legal team will be touring craft fairs looking for copyright violations. Of course you are always to cut a design even one with a copyright as long is it is for your own person use.
  14. I am blessed to own several scroll saws. The other week my favorite Dw788 blew the fuse. Put in a new fuse and the same results. Tried a slightly big fuse and pop. I am a kinda handy guy but not an electrical engineer. I can ready a meter. I need help determining the issues. I am guessing it is the motor or the circuit board. Any one have suggestions on how and what to test. For the record I got this Model 1 in a yard sale 5 years ago. It had never been used and i paid $125. The saw now has lot of hours so it really does not own me anything but stll I really like how it cuts.
  15. Tried it a couple times way back but I now never apply tape to my plywood. This goes for packing of clear tape. This goes for Baltic birch or other types. I apply my patterns directly to the wood using 3M Super 77 spray. The only time I use tape is on hard woods and there I apply clear packing tape over the top of the pattern for lubrication purposes. Part of my logic is like to play with the position of my patterns to take advantage of the character in the wood. I cut my patterns so I have very little waste showing and being able to see the wood helps be find the perfect position before the actual glue up.Being able to see the wood also helps to work around knots and defects that might ruin the project. The cheapest place I have found for Super 77 Spray is Lowes.
  16. DW yes I know about the saw mill route. Being in the Eastern half of NC (the Pine Tree Sate) the local mills handle mostly pine.Cabinet shops can be another source. I think I have attended and done demos at the Klingspor Extravaganza 10 of the prior 13 years. I will be there again this year doing scrolling demos and teaching in the NC Woodworkers booth again this year. We have to get together. For me Klingspors and Woodcraft in Raleigh are 1 1/2 hours and NC Hardwood Store is 2 hours.
  17. All I now use is Flying Dutchman which I get through Mike's Workshop. As others said Mike's Workshop is now owned by Wooden Teddy Bear (WTB). You know it is kinda like K-mart now owning Sears. I read what Mike posted on a couple forums. WTB not only bought Mike's Workshop (inventory and website) but they bought Mike's exclusive distributor license for Fly Dutchman in North America. So if you buy Flying Dutchman blades from ANY North American supplier, such as Lesley's, they are buying their blades from WTB.
  18. West Penn Hardwoods just moved from Olean, NY to Conover, NC. That is between Hickory, NC and Greensboro, NC along Interstate I-40. While a three hour drive from my place I have been known to drive several hours for the right reasons. Like wood and tools. You see I have a serious case of WGD (wood guy disease). The only know cure is acquire more wood and tools. Sounds like for health reasons I have a road trip coming up in the near future.
  19. What about mounting it to a permanent stand with locking casters on it? Then just step on the locks and you just move it when you need to.
  20. Thanks Shawn. Going through withdraw big time. Scott
  21. Shows are very unpredictable. Most are boom or bust. My advice is to not quit after on attempt. Also shows in November and December are the best.
  22. Littleton, NC which is on the NC/VA border.
  23. LarB now you have to get a pencil torch and learn how to burn off the fuzzies.
  24. I think a #3 skip tooth is the wrong blade. I would use a #1 reserve tooth blade. My choice is the FD (Flying Dutchman Ultra Reserve) blades. I would also stack at least 2 if not 3 layers.
