  1. Very nice work Dick!
  2. Yup. I actually made two. I have a show next month, and one in November.
  3. Welcome to the village Casey! Looks like you will fit right in here, so come on in and join the fun!
  4. Nice projects Bobby, keep up the good work!
  5. Yes, it is for sale on Diana Thompson's site.
  6. Hey bill, yes is is happening. One of our favorite designer and her husband used to sell their patterns on the site in question. She posts regularly on one of the other forums. She complained that they where altering het patterns without her permission. Needless to say, she is not selling her paterns there anymore. If you go to the site in question, you will find patterns that are similar, but not exact to patterns designed by her and her husband and others.
  7. Absolutely!!!! If a pattern has perfect circles, I will drill them with the correct size bit. I do not consider that cheating though. For something like a trivet, I will cut it on the scroll saw. I can cut it faster and will come out smoother than if done by a router. It's your project, cut it anyway you want!
  8. Boo the Magic Dragon. Pattern by Diana Thompson from the Summer 2005 issue of Scroll Saw Work Shop, now Creative Woodworks and Crafts. Compound cut from 1-1/2 x 1-1/2" Mahogany. Wings are Yellowheart, tail is Purpleheart and the base is spalted oak. He is about 7" tall. The finish is my usual, a soaking in 50/50 boiled linseed oil and mineral spirits, then when dry a topcoat of Deft semi gloss spray lacquer. I found the crystal ball on Etsy.
  9. Hey Don, I'm a scroll saw instructor at the Woodcraft store in Ventura, CA. I teach my students to start at mid speed. If you feel you can't control the blade or stay on the line, slow down the blade speed. If you feel like it's just going too slow, speed it up. You will learn to "feel the wood" as you gain experience.
  10. Welcome to the Village Mike! It is a pleasure to have you visit our humble forum! Please feel free to share you expertise with us. So, come on in and join the fun!
  11. It makes for good practice Monti. I always cut lettering first just in case this happens. I will try to modify those letters to make sure there is enough material that will not break off.
  12. Well done Jim! You can now call yourself a patter designer!!
  13. I nominate you Don to try this! Let us know how it works.
  14. Great work Richard! It reminds me of our member Merlin!
  15. Yup, seen it.
  16. I always apply the same amount of coats to top, bottom and back. Just the woodworker in me.
  17. It's ok Bill! Even though we are on different sides of the fence, I still consider you a friend!!😀
  18. When using the clear packing tape, apply it on top of the pattern. Do not wrap the tape, bur rather apply single layers of tape then "Burnish" the tape down to the pattern with a plastic putty knife or a smooth block of wood to eliminate any air bubbles. This will keep saw dust from building up under the tape. A simple step for a big problem
  19. The DeWalt saw was designed to aid in top feeding. It is so simple to do, why would you want to bottom feed!I too once had a Jim Dandy arm lift. As Scott did, I quickly took it off and tossed it! Do your self a favor and learn to top feed. Once you get the hang of attaching the blade to the bottom clamp without looking, it will take seconds to move the blade from one hole to the next.
  20. Hey Terry, Welcome to the Village! I was one of those that recommended the Village to the Wood forum. I used to post a lot there when they had a scroll saw forum, but that changed a few year ago during one of the forum downgrades. This is a very friendly site, no prima donnas here! So, come on in and join the fun!
  21. Nice work Roly! Interesting base.
  22. Did you buy from an online catalog like Wooden Teddybear or Scroller or Cherry Tree or something like that. If so, they source patterns from designers, some of which sell their own patterns too.
  23. Typically, for portrait type patterns in the vault, you cut out the black. But not all patterns are drawn that way. If you buy patterns from online sources or get patterns from scroll saw magazine, there may not be any shading at all. And if you use patterns from Steve Good, you cut out the white. The bottom line is it is up to you to determine what to cut.
  24. That's another beauty Rob!
  25. That's some great work you are doing Delvaughn!
