  1. 1/2 done with mine and will post early next week.
  2. I use General Finishes pre-mixed water based dyes and they work great. - They have several colors but I only have their, red, blue, white, green & yellow. They are pint containers and seem to last forever sense a little goes along way
  3. I do intarsia and I sign every piece i do with " Handmade By (name) month & year"
  4. very nice
  5. I have been there the past 4 years, Just about every major tool Manufacturer is there and there are normally great sales on tools, There are several Demo's from carving, turning and scrolling. Normally there is a chainsaw carver outside. Best thing is parking is Free & no fee to get in. This is a show I will be attending every year whether or not I am doing a Demo or Not. There is a very large Carving competition as well. Normally Klingspor will have door prizes for some nice items and and the Carver Association has a big raffle. Klingspor also runs tours to their sandpaper factory.
  6. I was just going to check and see who all will be coming to the Klingspor Woodworking show in Hickory NC at the end of October. Show is October 27th & 28th. I will be there at the Carolina Scrollers booth both selling & doing a schedule demo both days on Intarsia.
  7. Thought I would give everyone a quick review on the new Hawk BM 26 that I received last Friday. First thing First, the reason I purchased the Hawk is because after reading reviews & thumbing through the catalog I felt the Hawk would stand up longer when it comes to cutting thicker wood and I liked the idea of being able to adjust the blade to cut either less or more aggressive. In the Catalog what sold me was when they were showing you things the saw could do, there were a lot of Intarsia photos and some fretwork. Sense I mainly do Intarsia I thought this was the best saw for me. I really did not care for the Hegner. I have a local friend that allowed me to try his Hegner and did not care for it. The other issue i liked was that the Hawk is American Made. Review: 1. When the saw arrived last Friday after assembling the saw (installing the legs) and reading the owners manual on how everything worked, it was time to test drive and make any adjustments. Checked to see if the blade & table were square. There was no issues. Blade was square to the table straight out of the box. 2. I had to play around with the Tension a little to get it to my liking. 3. 1st test cut confirmed that everything was running true & square. - 1st cut was on 4/4 maple. 4. Through the 1st test cut I had some Vibration issues which was determine to be some minor adjustments to the legs to get them firmly planted on the concrete floor. 5. Started to play around the adjusting the blade for a more aggressive cut. before making any adjustments I check the blade placement from front to back. What I found was that the lower blade holder was all the way forward and therefore the blade started cutting the bottom of the piece before the top. Adjusted the blade to be perfectly square from front to blade and ran a test cut. That setup was way too slow on the thicker woods I normally cut but works well on 1/4 or thinner woods. I adjusted the lower blade holder back or a more aggressive cut. From front to back the lower blade holder is about an 1/8" out of plumb from the top holder. Ran another test cut with 4/4 maple and it almost cuts like butter. Very happy with the aggressiveness of the cut now. 6. I have had to play around with the speed control to find the sweet spot which for my saw is at speeds 4 and lower or above 6. Speed 5 & 6 I pick up some vibration. This does not seem to be an issues for me sense I'm comfortable with running the saw in the higher ranges. 7. I'm having to get used to the removable blade holders, but that will come with time as i continue to use the saw. The one thing that I'm going to like is the depth of the cut being over 2". One of the things I use the saw for is sense i cut 4/4 material all the time for intarsia, I have to resaw pieces and I have always been limited to about 1 1/2" wide pieces and now I can resaw pieces up to 2". For the purpose for buying this saw for myself was to cut the thicker woods for intarsia and for that purpose I think this is a great saw. As most know from other posts I also have a band new Dewalt 788 as well. That saw is set up as well and I will be using both saws. The Dewalt is set-up to cut thinner woods & plywood backs. I think if all I'm cutting on the Dewalt is the thinner woods & 1/4 ply for backs it will last a lot longer sense i believe the Dewalt is not designed to hold up to the prolonged cutting of the thicker woods. Far as the Hawk - I'm one very HAPPY CAMPER Brian
  8. I believe you are correct on this Harmonic range, I have mine speed set between 8 & 9 and i have limited to no vibration.
  9. Welcome to the forum From North Carolina. The pieces you showed looked very nice
  10. Not having any issues like Iggy had, I just have to get use to changing the blades on the Hawk
  11. Yesterday morning I got a call from the DEWALT authorized dealer and was told my replacement saw was in. I decided to play hooky from work yesterday afternoon and picked it up. Went to my shop and got that saw hooked up and tested it. Everything works correctly on it. Just after I finished setting up that saw here comes the UPS truck with my new Hawk BM 26. Spent the rest of the day setting it up as well. It cuts great straight out of the box but has just a little vibration that I need to solve but nothing major. The biggest issue is that I have to get use to changing blades on the Hawk. My plan is to use both saws. The DEWALT for thinner woods and the Hawk for thicker woods. I plan on being in the shop most of the weekend but most likely not touch either saw hardly at all. I already have several intarsia projects cut ready to shape. Going to se how well my dust collection works on my flexible drum sander works. i will let everyone know my opinion on the Hawk in a few weeks or so after I get used to it. Doesn't look like I am having the issues that Iggy had or is having. Brian
  12. I will let everyone know my thoughts in a couple of Weeks. My saw is out for delivery today. I should be able to test drive it over the weekend but I'm Traveling next week for work and may not be on the forum much.
  13. Dewalt is also shipping me a new saw because they can't figure out why it is knocking. I should have it in the either yet this week or next week. I did order the newer Hawk and it is scheduled to arrive on Friday. Over the past few years this Dewalt replacement will be my second replacement saw that I received from them. That being said I will keep the Dewalt as a back-up saw but plan on using the Hawk as my primary saw. I truly hope I do not have the issues like Iggy has had with the Hawk BM 26. I'll let everyone know if there are any issues.
  14. I received a notice from Bushton yesterday and my new Hawk will be delivered tomorrow
  15. I Both a Jet Filtration System that hang in the center of the shop
  16. I will be heading in that direction next week for work.
  17. You got to love the Dewalt Authorized service centers. I took my 788 that is less than 8 months old in because it was knocking really bad. When I dropped it off I when home and order a new Hawk which should be shipping anytime. I already know some of the comments that will follow. I called the Dewalt Authorized service center yesterday to follow up on my saw sense it has been just over 3 weeks sense i dropped it off. Service manager told me they took the unit apart and tighten everything up and put it back together. Saw runs great & cuts great for about 5 -10 minutes than there is an annoying knocking in the back (which is why i took it there in the 1st place). I felt like telling him NO SH....; but I may have thought it but didn't say it. So I asked him what the are going to do. His respond as an authorized service manager was - Well sense we can not run the saw without the housing removed to find the problem they are waiting on a new saw to come in and they are going to replace my saw. Hopefully this new saw will last longer than that replacement saw. Nice thing it looks like i will have 2 NEW saws in the shop shortly. The new Hawk that I bought & the new replacement Dewalt. I Guess the Authorized Service center need to watch some YouTube videos on how the repair & service their machines while they are under warranty.
  18. Another idea - If the saw is bolted down - add some foam padding between the saw & table and re-bolt it to the table. My 1st saw years ago had a bad vibration and in talking with a old long time scroller he suggested adding a couple layers of carpet padding between the saw & my workbench top. I did that and the majority of the vibration went away. I still use the carpet padding on my 788 that i have now. (well was using it but that saw is in the repair shop)
  19. Our Cars have never seen the inside of the garage. When I enclosed the carport about 10 years ago; we had always planned for the garage to be a workshop. For the 1st few years it was a storage area while we finished remodeling the house.
  20. Thought I would share some of my shop photos. As you can see in the photos I try to stay very organized in my shop. One of the photos show several of the Intarsia projects I'm working on. I use a "project board" for my intarsia projects so that i can move them around in the shop or even stack them up to make more room. You will notice in a couple of the photos where there is a wide section between the upper cabinet doors. This is a removable section of the Face frame to access the dust collection hard piping if need. Also works as a great place to hide things. The other thing i really like in the shop is the lumber storage rack with the peg board wall for holding all my recent projects. The scroll saw in the photos is my make-up Porter Cable that I'm using while the Dewalt is in the repair shop and while I'm waiting on my new Hawk. If you see anything you want to ask about let me know.
  21. Give me shout if you are ever in the Winston Salem area and we can visit.
  22. I bought the Shop Fox portable dust collector I'll take a few photos tonight an will post tomorrow. I put a lot of thought into this system and read a ton on systems.
  23. Still waiting on mine. Bushton said it would be shipping either this past Friday or early this week. Bad news is if It ships towards the middle to end of the week, I will not be able to get my hands on it till the following weekend sense I have to travel out of town next week for work.
  24. Well it is finally coming to an end. Last year in October I bought a air Filtration system for the shop and than at Christmas I received a Dust collector from my wife as a Christmas present. After I started the collector up in my shop I realized it was way too load to remain in the shop. I have added an exterior storage closet for it, I had the redesign the majority of the upper wall space in the shop to accommodate the 4" pipes. I ended up stopping on getting it up and running sense the weather turned hotter sense all I had left was the run the electrical to the machine and that was running through the hot attic. With the weather turning very nice over the past 2 weekends I was finally able to finish hooking it up. I was also able the get a dust collection hood built for my flexible drum sander this weekend. This drum sander is the biggest tool in the shop creating all the saw dust. It was nice late yesterday doing some sanding and not getting covered with dust. I still have to tie my chop saw, spindle sander, stationary sander, drill press & both scrollsaws into it. Everything is will be controlled by blast gates at each tool. I even installed an extra blast gate for when I am using the planer or bandsaw
  25. I bottom feed when i do Fretwork but I should not be an issue sense i do mostly Intarsia which is why i bought the saw.
