  1. Wait is almost over. I received an email yesterday and they are hoping to ship my new saw out either today or early next week.
  2. Years is the same Job. Nice thing is All my work projects that I oversee will be shutting down Saturday & will pick back up afterwards.
  3. Better for IGGY in NC and looking worst for me in Winston Salem NC . Local news is saying ALOT of rain & wind here and possible tornadoes, Following updates in the mornings & evenings. First part of next week is looking like a good time to "work" from home. I like working from home because all I do there is answer emails & talk on the phone while I play in the shop.
  4. I have never used them but I know several folks in the Carolina Scrollers club do use the brown paper bags on their fret work.
  5. Saw is less than 8 month old and is still under Warranty and I can build anything out of wood but when it comes to mechanical things I'm not that good with fixing things.
  6. Started out with a cheap Porter Cable from Lowes to see if I liked Scrolling. It broke within the 1st year and because I bought the replacement warranty, they gave me a new one and at that same time I upgraded to a type 2 788. The 1st 788 lasted about 3 years before it broke and the service provider could not fix it so they gave me my second 788. That one is now in the shop and I'm back to using the back-up Porter Cable till either I get my 788 back or I get my new Hawk BM26 that I bought last week. The reason for going with the Hawk is because I do not do much Fretwork, I primarily do Intarsia so I am dealing with woods that are 1" thick or thick and the Hawk has a good reputation to be able to handle the thick wood. The Hawk is also easier to work on if needed sense everything is exposed. The other reason I'm going with the Hawk is it is American Made. Brian
  7. Let me know how the service center is in Raleigh - the one in Greensboro is not worth a damn
  8. Well I guess I finally had enough with my 788. I had it in the shop at the end of the year last year and the Dewalt dealer could not figure out what was wrong with it so they just gave me a new 788. At the time I thought that was great in order to keep a happy customer. Well I took that saw back to them in late June and they had it for about a month till late July to fix a tension issue. I took it back to them this week for a bad knocking in the back of the saw and the same tension issue. Well the will most likely have it for another month trying to fix it. Meanwhile I have been using my Porter Cable saw which was a backup saw. I made the discussion to make the Jump to a high end saw sense i do mostly Intarsia. I just order a new BM 26. I had been thinking about upgrading for awhile but was waiting on Funds. Things seemed to fall in place over the past few weeks and I sold a few "big" ticket items in my shop which helped me cover the cost of a new upgraded saw. I was following all the posts lately from Iggy and everyone else to see how all the service issues & concerns washed out. Now the wait begins for my new play toy. Brian
  9. i have them in about 1/2 of my shop but they are mainly in walking area.
  10. I had just finished the pieces that were on that bench earlier that day. If you saw that bench now then it would be a different story
  11. I made this 4 tiered jewelry box for my wife's birthday last week while i was on Vacation. This is a Wildwood design made in Cherry
  12. Got mine right before I went on vacation and like the intarsia pieces and will do them at some point. Sense I mostly do intarsia I look forward to the magazine all the time. The one thing I like is seen other items that peak my interest. The 2 other items that really peaked my interest was the vase and wonder bowl and can't wait to try them when we get back home..
  13. Thank you for all the comments. On how much time i have in it, i can't say. I would work on it a little at a time here and there. I started it in late January. Most of the wood I used was resawn in my shop so between resawing cutting & assembly i would have to guess 60-80 hours. But that is a Guess. Again Thank you for the comment. Brian
  14. Finally was able to finish the Wildwood Clock Design "the Workshop Clock" this weekend. I am not planning on putting anything inside. I am giving this to one of by daughters as an heirloom Clock. She was very much into Dollhouses growing up. I will let her add some doll house furniture to it at some point. Going to start on the next Wildwood clock for the other Daught and will be making one for my son as well. We get to enjoy this one though sense that daughter still lives at home. She still has a few years left in College. Woods are: Red Grandis, Walnut, Cherry & Maple
  15. I belong to the Carolina Scrollers Association in Winston Salem. We are sponsored By Klingspor Woodworking shop. We meet once a month for a official meeting. We do a scrolling demo at the store every Wednesday to teach scrolling to people. We do a few club selling events through the coarse of the year. We Demo at senior citizen homes and give away crosses. Our 2 biggest events are - we have a huge presents at the Woodworking show that Klingspor puts on every year in Hickory NC & the one event everyone looks forward to is the fund raising event we do for the Second Harvest Food Bank. We cut Christmas ornaments for the show in Hickory & for the Winston Salem Klingspor shop and every dollar raised goes to the food bank. This event got us recognized In the Scrollsaw Woodworking & Crafts Magazine last year. We have both & website that is updated and a Facebook page.We do a mentoring program for members. There are a few of us willing to open our shops up to members only to help teach new things, like a member only is doing fretwork and wants to learn Intarsia, they are welcome to come to my shop and learn. Apparently there is a scroll saw interest here in NC. When I joined a few years ago there were about 20 members; now membership is close to 50. Meeting consist of special presentations from members on anything related to scrolling & finishes; show & tell on pieces completed by members; planning events. We just had our second annul picnic this past weekend. Members experience range from newbie's to very experienced. Members live here in the Winston Salem & Greensboro area From what we understand we are the only Scroll Saw Organization in NC dedicated to scroll saw work only. Brian
  16. Dick, The maple pieces in the Cherry Frame are floaters in the pattern that have to be glued to the backer after the Frame was Glued. Pattern calls out you can cut them out of the same wood or an accent wood.
  17. FYI as fine of cuts there were on the Frame I did not want to stack cut both frames. I did stack cut the Frame. both sides and both the top & both at the same time. I was concerned about cutting Cherry at a 1" thickness that fine. I cut 1" all the time for my Intarsia with with a # 5 skip reverse but with all the very small cuts in the Frame i had to drop down to a #2 to cut everything and was concerned with flexing the blade and ruining the piece. I will stack cut the second Frame starting this week. Far as a lot of cutting goes ---YESSSS! I have about 20 hours in the frame and about 15 hours in all the words. Thank you for all the great comments. Brian
  18. I have ordered several Wildwood Designs from Cherry Tree.
  19. I have a couple of wedding coming up - 1 next weekend & one in July for family members & close friends. I decided to cut a piece for the Weddings. Thank goodness for stack cutting or i would still be cutting the 1st one. 1st one complete and the 2nd one all i have is the frame itself. Pattern came from Cherry Tree and is a Wildwood Design called Home Rules. Woods are 1/4" Cherry & maple and 1/8" Baltic Birch
  20. Very nice use of scraps
  21. I really like the water lily box from the latest Scrollsaw Magazine, so I thought i would give it a try. Made from walnut & poplar
  22. This was a fun project about 15 to 16" long. Made from Ambrosia Maple & Mahogany
  23. I will have several Intarsia projects going on in different stages all the time as well as Fretwork. Right now I have about 6 intarsia pieces cut and ready to shape (doing some of that this weekend). I have one Wildwood Clock design in process, about 4 intarsia pieces about half cut out and a toy truck ready for finishes. I depends on the mood I'm in on what I do in the shop.
  24. thanks for all the comments
  25. Well I got away from Intarsia for a little while. Tried to use up a much of scrap in the shop. Made several pieces of word art designed by Steve Good. I also made a couple of small boxes.
