  1. Hi everyone. Well I finally finished this piece. I went with the BLO first that a few of the scroller's suggested and a few coats of poly. This is made out of 1/2 Oak with a 1/8 BB backer. I used a #3 ultra reverse on this piece. It's a Sue Mey pattern and it measures 17 x 11. I'm not sure if I'm going to give this to my teacher friend that I work with for xmas or for when she gets her doctors degree which will be in Dec to.
  2. Kevin, you got some great colors there. They came out great.
  3. Wow Helmut, that came out fantastic. How did you get the two colors.
  4. You did some great cutting on that piece. Looks like it was a little tricky.
  5. I bought my small bits from Mike,s workshop. He also sells the small chuck to hold the bits.
  6. Wow! Great ideas. Don, I never thought of the Danish oil. I have a can of that to. I'll have to try that next time. With this piece, I went with the BLO and spray poly. I'll put a pic on when I'm done. Thanks agin for all the tips.
  7. Len, I never thought of putting BLO first, then poly. I'll give that a try. Thanks everyone for all the comments.
  8. I guess that's what I'll do to. Why change now. Thanks guys.
  9. I just downloaded it for my Mac after Steve sent me an email on how to do it. It's a little different setup than the windows one is but works great great. I think there's over 2000 p0atterns. Can't beat the price. I also have the cd's.
  10. Hi everyone, I just finished this piece for my teacher friend and I was wondering what finish to put on it. I usually use a few coats of poly but I was wondering if something better would work. This is 1/4 inch oak with a 1/8 BB backer painter black. This is the teacher I was telling you about that's getting her Doctors degree in December. Do you think this is a good piece to give for that occasion. I was going to give this to her for xmas but I can always make her something small, like an ornament. Suggestions please. Thanks Ralph.
  11. WoW, you did a great job on that piece. I never tried intarsia before but I'm always tempted. Not sure if I could do that type of cutting.
  12. Jeff, those came out great. Great detail in the cutting.
  13. WoW, those look good either way. I love the way there painted. Wish I could paint like that, I would paint some of my pieces. Great job.
  14. Those look sharp. I like the different designs.
  15. Very interesting Iggy. I've never cut out those types of puzzles. I gather you only cut one at a time seeing that your using 3/4 wood. Can I ask how much are you selling them for and is that the only finish you put on them.
  16. Dave, I kinda like the all black with the white under the chin. Seems like to much white on the back. I'm sure anything you do will be great.
  17. Now that sounds like a great meeting of friends. It's not easy to meed other scroller's that live in different states.
  18. Yea, you can't get it for a Mac yet. I already have both of his CD's
  19. I would save a little more to If I were you and get a EX21 or a dewalt 788. I have both.
  20. I think you got a deal there Ron. I'm sure you can always get your $50.00 back some day and even more.
  21. Thanks Brian. That might work later on in the year. Kids are only 5 and most can't write yet.
  22. John, I cut 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 up to 2 x 2 on my ex 21.Sometimes I have a problem if I rush. I use a # 5 #7 and #9.The wood I have the most trouble with is Oak and cedar. You have to go really slow. I've been cutting xmas ornaments with the initial in the center and there 5 inches tall, plus birdhouses. They come out good when I go slow..
  23. They look good Ron. They were made in my home state of Ct. Not far from where I lived.
  24. Thanks for all the ideas everyone. I think her Doctorate is in some type of technology. I do have Steve Goods CD catalogues. I'll have to check them out.
  25. Ron, not sure if a memory box would be big enough. I'm sure she has a lot of memory s. She's been teaching for 34 years. Thanks for the idea though. I already made her a name plaque for her desk already. I do have a Sue Ley pattern of a 17 inch cross for a teacher but not sure if that would work. I was going to make that one for her for xmas.
