Hawk got a reaction from wombatie in White Cross
Funny story, I posted this before showing it to my wife. As part of her journey to become a Priest she, along with others on the same journey, are in a class that has them doing Chaplin work at a local Covenant Hospital. They graduate on May 29. She commented after seeing the cross " wouldn't it be nice if I could give everyone in my class one? I asked how many in the class. She said 7. I responded " challenge accepted."
Instead of 7 of the pictured cross as there is only 2 gals in the class, I'm going with a Sue Mey pattern for the guys.
Let the saw dust fly!!!!

Another Cross for my wife. I'm getting a handle on the frame work. This is a stained glass pattern and the frame work is about 1/16th wide cut from 1/8 ply. I have found that painting it copper helps the resin to pop. Backer is also 1/8 ply painted silver. For me the resin gives me a much larger color pallet over stained glass or acrylic. And so much easier to work with.

Hawk reacted to Dak0ta52 in Saw Time... Finally
Between the weather and my health, it was good to finally get back into the shop and create some sawdust. The first is a Charles Dearing pattern (Lab Family) I purchased at the request of my wife. I stack cut 2 of BB with a BB backer. I used primarily Pegas #1 spirals and a few 2/0 in some of the tighter areas. I will say the pattern, purchased from Wooden Teddy Bear, had a few issues where I had to do some scroller editing to keep from having dropouts. The size with frame is roughly 12X18. The frame was made from pine.
The second is a smaller piece (approximately 6X10) also of BB with a BB backer. I used Pegas MGT 2/0 and 0 blades. For the life of me I can't remember where I got the pattern and it didn't have the designer's name. If anyone knows the author, please let me know so I can credit them with the nice pattern.
Finally is a Steve Good pattern I cut for Mother's Day. My mom is 92 and is in early stages of Dementia. I've cut pieces for her on her Birthday and Mother's Day since I've been scrolling. This one makes about 8 pieces I've cut for her and she has me hang them in her Dinette where she spends most of her time. This piece was cut from BB with a BB backer using Pegas 2/0 and 0 MGT blades.
The first two pieces are stained using Ipswich with Pure Black stain for the backers. They were finished with several coats of Polyacrylic and sanded with 600 grit between coats. The frames on the first two pieces are also stained with Ipswich. I also added splines to the corners, but they are unseen from the photos. The Mother's Day piece is stained with Natural, and the backer is stained with Red Oak.

Hawk reacted to BadBob in Uploading Steve Good's Patterns
I have seen several of Steve's patterns uploaded here, whole and in part, in the past. This is just a reminder that he doesn't want the patterns uploaded to other sites.
See today's blog post.

Hawk got a reaction from wombatie in My latest resin try
This is an @alexfox pattern slightly modified, actually all I did was not add the middle layer. This time instead of leaving the wood untreated I painted it and in my opinion a success. No bleeding of the resin into the wood
Anyhow, here it is.

Hawk reacted to jerry walters in Finally making some sawdust
Watching a video by Tyler @artisanpirate where he made a candle holder I had to try it. Many time he closes his video with "If I can do it, you can do it". So I gave it a try. Came out pretty good, but the leaves are fragile. Broke two of them, one when gluing it, the other when staining. Fortunately you can't see where I repaired the breaks. Made this with pine, stained with Minwax gunstock.
The second is a small clock with shelves from a pattern book I had by Diana Thompson, Compound Scroll Saw Creations. All the clock patterns call for small clock inserts which I could not find anywhere, so using inkscape I increased the size of the pattern to accept the 1 7/16-inch clock inserts. This was made with poplar and stained Minwax cherry.
I'm pleased with both.
