  1. That is exactly what I bought in 2019 for my Hegner.
  2. You can just get a longer Loc Line and put the nozzle where you want. I put MI e on the right and vacuum on the left. It is so easy to move either out of the way. It is a pretty simple setup.
  3. Could you show a picture of the bellows and hose on the old Hegner. I bought an upgrade from Mike's shop when he was selling blades. It is really a very simple upgrade with 1/4" Loc Line. Unfortunately, I do not have my old Hegner but did find an old picture. There is a wooden block to transition from the hose to Loc Line.
  4. Excellent work interesting and I will be reading it
  5. I find that if I tense up or grip the wood too hard, I have more trouble following the lines. Okay little attention to my speed and just do what feels right.
  6. I find there are HUGE differences in BB plywood or what be call it. I always buy the stuff in 5x5 sheets or from a place I know sells the real thing.
  7. I just tack a 1/4" thick piece with a good edge to a board. Simple, cheap and effective.
  8. The Olsen Chart is a good reference. If you do a Goggle search for scrollsaw blade chart, you will find a lot of help. After you try different blades, you will find the blades you are most comfortable with. I use Flying Dutchman Polar blades because they are skip tooth and do well in 3/4" wood which is what I use for Intarsia.
  9. I just searched YouTube for "beginning scrollsaw" and got several good videos. I suggest that you watch several of them and see if it helps.
  10. Maybe one of the recent newbies could provide information that was given to him. Somewhere, somehow, it would be good to have some saved posts that provide newbie information. It seems that these are repeated questions from the past. What we need is classes for newbies that are an introduction to scrolling. Please provide your location and some background information.
  11. One of the issues for me is the wide differences with the scrollers. We seem to get new ones asking the same questions. One of the things that has changed with time is people have a problem and immediately ask for a solution. I have always tried to figure things out in my own first. How many times do we have someone ask what blades to use before trying different ones out. I learned which blade by trying different ones on different woods. Too often people want a quick EASY answer or YouTube answer that involves no problem solving on their part. Interesting, my son is a software game designer but is mechanically adept. When in junior high, I bought a old cheap sit on lawn mower. I had him take the engine apart and put back together including listings and valves. The look on his face when he got it running while covered in grease was priceless. I also see a trend of people having less mechanical ability. I grew up taking things apart and fixing them. Ask a kid today to fix something ??? There is and will be a huge demand for people to fix things....plumbers, electricians, handy men, car repair, etc. I predict that they will be able to charge whatever they want and make a good living. I do not do a lot of projects any more but do make more involved ones. The T Rex head I posted took me months and the Model A Ford took a year. I enjoy more complicated projects. I enjoy the scrollsaw as it allows me to make things sitting down which has become more necessary. I hope they keep publishing as I think it is good for people newer to the hobby. I dropped my subscription a couple years ago because the projects were not interesting to me, my copy got to me about 2 months after others, and the fold out patterns were a pain to copy. Rant off !
  12. Such a great job. The design is interesting, the cutting great and the painting really makes it.
  13. This is a great thread with lots of wonderful projects and a wide variety. Thanks everyone for posting. And thanks for the kind Likes on my entry to this thread.
  14. They make a quality product with a lot if options. I ended up getting a Foredom flex shaft that I use for Intarsia and other projects. I find the smaller bits work well on Intarsia. For bowl type projects, the Guinevere system is good. As a note, these systems throw a LOT of dust in the air.
  15. I haven't done as much scrollsaw this year but this is my favorite. Most of parts were first scroll sawed and the shaped. It is a Model A Ford. I did this as my dad and i worked on a 1929 Model A when i was in high school.
  16. Back to the original question !! I really like Danish Oil for the look but it takes a long time to dry. I probably use shellac most of the time as it dries quickly. I use it for 2 coats by brush and spray can fir last coat.
  17. That is a very interesting way of collecting dust from the bottom of the table. I will be interested in how well it works and how much dust gets by it. I did go to the Etsy site to see the workings of it. Please let us know. The dust port looks to be about 2" or so but the channel over to the blade is quite small. At most it is 3/4" wide and maybe 1/4" deep. That is a cross section of 0.375 sq inches. The 2 inch port is over 3 sq inches or 8 times larger than the channel. I am going to look at my Hegner and see if I can make something similar.
  18. Dan...that is an excellent job ! I am very impressed with it !
  19. I find that if I turn the speed down it is less likely to damage the piece. I run mine in my drill press and will turn the speed sometimes down to 150-200 rpm. Also, A Mac Mop I think is more gentle. Again, the speed is critical.
  20. I think that is great !
  21. As a hobby guy, I would be very unhappy if my scrollsaw only lasted 3-4 years. To me, 250 hours is just unacceptable. I expect my tools to last 20 years with reasonable maintenance. I know my old Hegner lasted more than 20 years and expect my current one to outlast me. Of course, the Hegner has only bushings which are very easy to oil. I would like to hear from anyone who has had to replace the bushings.
  22. Why not take a video and send by email. ?
  23. I think that the light 1/8" plywood is likely basswood ply. I have used some and easier to cut on a laser than BB. I would not try it on a scrollsaw. I bought some 1/16" ply on BB Amazon to try out.
