  1. Excellent work interesting and I will be reading it
  2. Wow, that is amazing.
  3. I tried my magnifier attached to my Hegner and there was a very slight vibration. It bothered my eyes so I mounted it to the workbench next to the scrollsaw.
  4. I am totally confused with this post ??????
  5. I find that if I tense up or grip the wood too hard, I have more trouble following the lines. Okay little attention to my speed and just do what feels right.
  6. It is bit shut they appear to be American Gold finch with winter colors. There are a lot of them. Are they there all the time or are they migrating?
  7. I find there are HUGE differences in BB plywood or what be call it. I always buy the stuff in 5x5 sheets or from a place I know sells the real thing.
  8. Any propane heater puts out a lot of moisture. if they are running properly, there is mainly CO2 and very little CO.
  9. I use a small propane torpedo style heater in my garage occasionally. I also will take a carbon monoxide monitor in the garage. The one thing I really notice is the high humidity that the things produce.
  10. I have no had this for about 10 days and still working great. I did not have the solar panel on for four days and it ran on the battery just fine. I have the solar panel on now and it even charges some with all clouds. With the sun, it charges fast. We have had so many birds until today when a pair of Cooper Hawks were soaring about. I have been sending files to my grandkids and they like them. I am attaching a video of some Common Grackles from yesterday. 0cb5028d3fbed45c1532d780b80f23d7.mp4
  11. I absolutely hated my HP all in one printer. The cost of the ink was ridiculous and had cartridges go bad. The software was horrible for me. I do love my Brother Laser all in one printer.
  12. Yes, some magnifies are better than others. I use an Ottlite magnifying light with glass lens. I use the 3X and has minimal distortion. In general, it costs more to make a good glass lens. I tried some cheaper alternatives and was very disappointed.
  13. I use CamelCamelCamel.com to check price history on Amazon. The graph below is for the DW735 with wings but no stand. It gives you new, used and non-Amazon prices over a lot of year.
  14. I just tack a 1/4" thick piece with a good edge to a board. Simple, cheap and effective.
  15. The Olsen Chart is a good reference. If you do a Goggle search for scrollsaw blade chart, you will find a lot of help. After you try different blades, you will find the blades you are most comfortable with. I use Flying Dutchman Polar blades because they are skip tooth and do well in 3/4" wood which is what I use for Intarsia.
  16. I just searched YouTube for "beginning scrollsaw" and got several good videos. I suggest that you watch several of them and see if it helps.
  17. Maybe one of the recent newbies could provide information that was given to him. Somewhere, somehow, it would be good to have some saved posts that provide newbie information. It seems that these are repeated questions from the past. What we need is classes for newbies that are an introduction to scrolling. Please provide your location and some background information.
  18. As always Dick, a brilliant piece of art. The composition is great with the pine trees as a frame and very lifelike leopard. You are an inspiration!
  19. One of the issues for me is the wide differences with the scrollers. We seem to get new ones asking the same questions. One of the things that has changed with time is people have a problem and immediately ask for a solution. I have always tried to figure things out in my own first. How many times do we have someone ask what blades to use before trying different ones out. I learned which blade by trying different ones on different woods. Too often people want a quick EASY answer or YouTube answer that involves no problem solving on their part. Interesting, my son is a software game designer but is mechanically adept. When in junior high, I bought a old cheap sit on lawn mower. I had him take the engine apart and put back together including listings and valves. The look on his face when he got it running while covered in grease was priceless. I also see a trend of people having less mechanical ability. I grew up taking things apart and fixing them. Ask a kid today to fix something ??? There is and will be a huge demand for people to fix things....plumbers, electricians, handy men, car repair, etc. I predict that they will be able to charge whatever they want and make a good living. I do not do a lot of projects any more but do make more involved ones. The T Rex head I posted took me months and the Model A Ford took a year. I enjoy more complicated projects. I enjoy the scrollsaw as it allows me to make things sitting down which has become more necessary. I hope they keep publishing as I think it is good for people newer to the hobby. I dropped my subscription a couple years ago because the projects were not interesting to me, my copy got to me about 2 months after others, and the fold out patterns were a pain to copy. Rant off !
  20. I really have not tried the ID part. We are quite good at identifying the birds in our area. We routinely feed the birds and know their names and even some of their calls. During spring and fall migrations, it can be difficult because you have some very similar coloring. So far, I am impressed with this feeder camera. I have to mount the solar panel for it tomorrow.
  21. I got a bird feeder with a built in camera for Christmas. The brand was Soliom. It is well made of metal and sturdy. The setup was fun with my phone but finally got it working. This is an up close view of a Cardinal 20240121125940_1.mp4
  22. The upper midwest has been in the deep freeze for a week or more. It is -5 F this morning and been like this most mornings. Fortunately, my shop is fully heated. But, we are kind of used to it and endure it every year. For those down south, the cold is much more of a problem. My dog is really not happy with the cold. Oh!....Back on topic! I have had the DW735 for quite awhile and love it. The only downside is the weight at 92#. Glad mine is on a rolling g cart.
  23. Such a great job. The design is interesting, the cutting great and the painting really makes it.
  24. -12 F and wind 25 mph this morning.
  25. This is a great thread with lots of wonderful projects and a wide variety. Thanks everyone for posting. And thanks for the kind Likes on my entry to this thread.
