  1. Jim MacDonald.... Really excellent picture!!!
  2. While reading the thread on bearing lubrication, I was wondering about the ball bearing numbers and letters. I found that each number and letter have specific meaning. I am attaching brief info on decoding the ball bearing numbers. Some may already know this but may be useful to others.
  3. I was just telling what the manual says. I find it interesting all the posts over time about bearing issues with various scroll saws. It appears that replacing the bearings on them or even lubricating them is not an easy task. You would think that if the bears needed to be lubricated they would make it easy to do. Every time I read about this, I am happy with my Hegner. All it takes is a couple drops of oil every once in awhile in easily accessible places.
  4. Interesting, the manual says all bearing are sealed and do not need lubrication.
  5. Such a Happy face....glad you are back.
  6. I looked at what some other people built and the features. I wanted switches with pilot lights for the laser power, air pump, exhaust fan and inside lights. This was the most difficult for me. For almost all projects, I draw up pretty detailed plans and cut diagrams. Wood has gotten expensive so minimizing waste is important. I also built the cart underneath the enclosure and is great for storing the various materials and computer stuff.
  7. Ray....Put an arm on a tall post. I have hung them from a Gazebo and the Wrens were happy with that. I have a lot of trees but like to put them where we can easily watch them
  8. Spent some time and made three new Wren Houses this weekend. They will be back very soon.
  9. This is just my opinion. I bought an Ortur LM3 last year and have learned a lot. It is not just a plug and play device. I had to assemble mine but that is a good thing because you learn about the machine. You will need an enclosure as they give off a lot of smoke. You also need protection fit your eyes. My enclosure has orange tinted windows. I would also recommend an air pump for the laser. I am using Lightburn to control the laser. It was $60 I think. And no you need to use it. Fir every material you need to find the right combination of speed and laser power and other things to get the best results. Bottom line is I really enjoy my laser but it takes time and effort to get it working well.
  10. First, what camera do you use to take pictures. I now use my cell phone a Samsung S21 Ultra. It takes excellent pictures. I do not use a white background as it reflects light and seems it causes exposure issues. I have used a blue sheet background and seems to work well. This is an example using my cellphone with blue background and soft lighting.
  11. Thank you ! I look forward to reading your posts.
  12. OCToolguy, I think that you are being too critical calling someone sour. I have bought a couple HF tools and thrown them out. One was a die grinder that overheated in a couple minutes. Another was a corded drill that did the same. I will never buy another!!!
  13. My wife liked hurkle-durkle !
  14. Sorry for your loss !
  15. Excellent work.... that is a lot of work and came out beautifully. The details are so good !! Was there a reason you picked this car ? I did a Model A with many hours in it and understand the effort it takes. I built mine because my dad and I restored a 1929 Model A. I like the case you built and need to build a similar one. Did you use glass or plexiglass for the sides ?
  16. I think eliminating vibrations is one of those things with diminishing returns. You get to the point where vibrations are quite low and anything more you try results in very small improvements. The question is when do you stop and start making sawdust. If it passes the nickel test, I would leave it alone. Does the small vibration cause any cutting problems?
  17. I find the laser to be very challenging. If you are doing a picture, trying to process it properly to get the best result is a challenge. I have watched videos and there is more technical l stuff than I can handle. I have also been laser engraving on ceramic tile and that also has a lot of trial and error. You can also engrave on slate. I keep a notebook of what I try and the settings. I do not think it is really simple for what I do. If all you do is engrave a name or date, yes pretty simple. But, to get a crisp engraving or one with depth, perhaps not as simple. You can make the laser simple or as complex as you like.
  18. I can scroll only a short OP time and then need to get up. I am scrolling less because of arthritis and other similar issues. This thread is very revealing. Two major contributors have mentioned some changes away from scrolling. I really like scrolling and still do it but have also found another hobby. Last year, I bought a 10 watt Ortur Laser Master 3. It has been a real challenge but also fun. It is less stressful on my body except for the computer mouse. I do not scroll or laser engrave/cut for selling. The mental challenge of the laser is what I like. It is not just put something into it and turn it on. There is a lot of background stuff. I am certain that the CNC requires a lot of thought.
  19. A couple of comments about the Scrollnado, I think the pickup tube underneath is small - 1/2"? Also, the location is such that some dust will be missed. I do not know the specs of the Metro Vac. I use a Festool with 138 cfm and vac of 96". With my 3/4" diameter pickups, it gets most of the dust.
  20. I wish my wife's long arm quilting machine was only $3000. But, you have a very nice router setup.
  21. I try to collect the sawdust close to the source so I am not breathing it.
  22. Thanks so much...I look forward to your posts.
  23. I was never impressed with the scrollnado. My dust collection system and others (Rolf, OCtoolguy) who have built similar ones do much better. I do not have any dust in my legs. Can you show where your dust collection pickups are. This is mine and has larger pipes and pickups. I am using a Festool vacuum.
  24. No, I had a high draft number. I remember the day they drew the numbers and how people responded. I remember my friends who went and lost their lives.
  25. I have the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra. It is a couple years old but works great. I have been so pleased with the camera. I use the phone to read books with kindle, listen to audio books, listen to old time radio with SiriusXM, text, etc, etc, etc.. But the camera is really used. I take pictures of everything. My kids are scattered and we stay in touch with a group text and share pictures and videos. Two of my kids are Apple people but my Android Samsung works as well or better.
