  1. I've seen an add from someone selling an old Excalibur by Somerville 30" for $125. It is in working condition. I already have plenty of Dewalts Type 1 (2) that I acquired and serviced and lately Got a Brand New Seyco that I Love. Is this saw worth it or not?
  2. Hi MurkyWaters, Welcome to this amazing village from the beautiful green mountains of Vermont!
  3. I've been using Dewalts type 1 for close to 15 years and wanted to upgrade to a smoother saw with a larger table. I debated the Pegas or the Excelsior ex-30 but after discussing this with Ray from Seyco, he convinced me to wait for a Seyco. I have to say that this is a solid saw and the table is enormous. I know I will enjoie this saw for years to come. I'm not getting rid of my Dewalts as I do demos quite often and it is the perfect size to transport for demos. Christian
  4. That is great info ! Thank you for sharing! I now have a better excuse to get a fridge in my shop other than keep my beer cold!
  5. Hi Christian, There are many ways to have a backers. Some people use felt on the back of the piece, some people use colored cardboard. I typically use a 1/4 piece of Luan plywood and spray paint it the color i need. I sometime apply some masking tape in the area where the backing meets the scrolled piece to make sure the glues adhere better. There are many ways to do it. Note: Je suis aux Vermont et peux discutter en francais si tu le desir!

  8. You guys are the very best. After inspecting the brushes that I had replaced 1 year ago, I switched them around and that did the trick! THANK YOU! Thank You! Thank You! I'm still going to consider upgrading to a Seyco in 2020
  9. Good day to all scrollers, I've been using my Dewalt for years and have been able to troubleshoot and repair it but this one is stomping me. The saw has been "not starting" when pressing the the foot switch. I know that the switch is working because my vacuum comes on also when pressing the foot switch. To get it to start again, I've moved the parallel arm a bit and it then starts but sometimes, all I have to do is release the foot switch and then try it again. Later when I stop, it might or might not start again. Its not constant. Did this ever happen to you? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  10. I totally get what you are saying Iggy, After doing Craft fairs for 4 years now and mostly selling ornaments and tea lights, I feel that I've somewhat saturated the market around me so , next year, I'll be going to places that I've never been to before just to validate my theory. I only do show from September to December so I've got a few month to decide where to go!

    Hi

Bonjour Philip! Welcome to the village!
  15. After looking at all the choices out there, The saw that I would choose to buy brand new would be a Seyco!
  16. Welcome to the Village Dave! I too am a DBA by day and looking forward to my weekends on my saw!!
  17. I'm sure you will love the DeWalt 788. I went from a delta 40-540 to a Dremel 1680 and then ... 10 years ago to a DeWalt 788. Even if I would never go back to my older models, they were great and they made me enjoy my 788 even more. I'm sure you will too!!! I now have Two DeWalt 788!
  18. Dave, Your display is FABULOUS! Seriously! It is clean, not cluttered but yet you have many different items displayed! I love it! Good job! I just wish I had that much time to spend in my shop to make everything I hope or would like to try to make. Questions ... do you have a video or a picture of the front of your boot, showing how you displayed your "business"? I really like your display!
  19. Awesome. I've been using a mix of BOL, Poly and Mineral Spirit for a few years and its my favorite finish. My only question is I make a batch and use it to dip my finished pieces but how long is my batch good? 1 month, 6 month, a year?
  20. Welcome to the village Charles, What a fantastic journey! I too was involved with AutoCAD for many years. Not as a designer. I worked for an AutoCad reseller in Montreal and was an expert in configuring, troubleshooting and optimizing PCs for AutoCAD Version 10 to 2000. I've seen many of your work on Facebook and am glad to see you here in the Village! Very nice intro!
  21. I was also a member but in the last few years, I did not see any benefit for me. There is no local clubs around me and I found that This village was way more beneficial to me, and this is where I'm spending my SAW membership money. I wonder if someone on here has any information about the insurance piece of doing demos?
  22. Thank you Teachnlearn! That is a great portable idea!!!
  23. I've been wanting to get me a banner and I think you convinced me! KMMCrafts, I do bring my saw to some of my shows and this year i'll be using a battery and inverter but When I do bring my saw, I make sure all the vendors around me are ok with me sawing. Not just for the noise but for the dust that I produce, I had two shows when my neighbors kept having to wipe there items from dust that was blowing off my saw right on to their booth. One hated me and wanted me dead and the other one was totally fine because I was attracting more people to his booth.
  24. Safe travels!
  25. Welcome to the village Elysia, Do not hesitate to as us anything about the scroll saws. We are all eager to help one another!
