  1. Thanks Gary for the update on Alex and his family. Glad they have stayed safe so far, I have not recently seen any updates on Anatoly since the last one from 2 days ago on the 24th. Prayers continue for both them, their families and all of Ukraine.
  2. Besides Alex, many of you may be familiar with the work and patterns of Anatoly Obelets. He has been published I believe a couple of times recently in the Scroll Saw and Woodworking magazine. He is also in Ukraine. Here is the most recent information I have seen on him. The posts are from the Facebook group “Intarsia Nuts”. The first one was from Feb. 22 and the second is from just about 23 hours ago on Feb. 24. My prayers continue for their safety in Ukraine.
  3. Pete, thank you for showing. I am in awe of those who can cut such small and intricate items. The fact that you did it without any clamps and just holding the scrap wood, is to me just that more awesome. I know cutting such tiny intricate pieces is not easy.
  4. Thank you Frank for giving an honest reply. I really was not sure which “why” you were asking. We all have different things that appeal to us. While you may consider something like this as having no apparent usefulness, others may find they simply like the challenge of seeing how small they can cut and it brings them joy and happiness to see. This is shown by several responses here. Others like to make these small reindeer to give away and when they do, they find it gives joy to the recipient as well as to themselves as the giver. Some folks make jewelry with such tiny items and people love them. Some people collect miniatures and find joy in seeing them. Some use them for ornaments. Beauty and its usefulness is in the eye of the beholder for sure, but that doesn’t mean we are right or wrong, it just means it does or doesn’t appeal to us personally and that’s ok. Given our world today, I pray that we can all remember that just because we personally don’t understand something, or it does not appeal to us, it does not make it useless or unimportant. What a dull world it would be if everyone was the same or only liked the same things. There are so many types of different scroll work that can and is done and shared here. All of it will not appeal to everyone. However, that does not mean we cannot appreciate the skill it requires to create it. I know I am always in awe of work and patterns that I see shared here, even though many I would never care to do myself. I do however always admire and appreciate the time and talent that it takes to be done by others.
  5. Thank you for checking on him and giving us the update you received from him. I’m sorry to hear this for Alex and his Ukrainian countrymen. Please spend him our prayers and ask him to keep you updated as he can on his safety.
  6. I like clarification and understanding, I’m not sure exactly what you are asking. Are you asking why is it the smallest he can cut, why can’t he cut smaller? OR are you asking why cut that small?
  7. Yabba-Dabba-Doo! Nice work.
  8. Glad to see all is back and right with the world after several days of missing the village. Thank you Travis for all your work, worry and dedication.
  9. Excellent work, especially in such a small piece with all that veining. I’m sure your neighbor loves it.
  10. Wish my lazy days were that productive. Nice work.
  11. Well, as a TN fan, I’m not too excited about it myself but my GA Dawg son (who went to the game and enjoyed it immensely ) would love it. I can say I prefer it to one that would have been for that other team. Seriously, you did a great job on it and I am sure your friend is thrilled with it. I’ve been contemplating making something for my son to commemorate the occasion.
  12. Glad to hear your wife is on the mend and you been doing all you can to help her recover. Prayers that she continues to a full and complete recovery. Hope you get a little more shop time soon.
  13. Let’s go to the source and let @Jim Blumetell you where you can find his many wonderful patterns.
  14. Nice work Charlie. I came from the paper crafter/vinyl cutter world. I have always said, most patterns for that and scrolling are quite interchangeable between the two types of cutting. I have used many scroll patterns in the paper cutting and vise versa over the years. Good to hear about this site. Will have to remember to check it out.
  15. Nice work. @Jim Blume does great looking patterns. I’m sure he will be happy to see your cut from one of his patterns.
  16. Congratulations glad Santa treated you well. Look forward to seeing what all you do with it.
  17. @namunolie does similar type puzzles. I checked his Etsy store but don’t see this one there though. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Namunolie?page=1#items
  18. Oh Ray, that was not intended as a slam or anything negative on you on replying and liking. I see it as a positive actually. It lets folks know, me included, that someone read the post they made and appreciated it. I hope you won’t stop.
  19. Glad to hear I’m not the only one who has projects all but completed sitting around in the shop. Nice job on these.
  20. Ray likes and replies to most. Any and everything here in the Village. I think. He must be like the Village’s mayor. Like Ray, I try to read most everything posted in the Village. I learn a lot of useful information i might miss otherwise. I must have missed your earlier photo info with your friend Linda. I have been a bit under the weather this week though so I have probably missed several.
  21. Welcome to the Village from East Tennessee.
  22. It was shared by @FrankEV in the patterns subforum here in the Village. There are two different patterns in that post. This one is the first two labeled Two Heads Sculpture
  23. Frank, this original post is over 5 years old. I just checked, and John has not been on this forum since early August, 2019 so almost 2 1/2 years ago unfortunately. You might check the Village’s Resources section, Scrollsaw Review Section which has the Eclipse saw and several documents on it stored there. One of them is a document on belt replacement it looks like. Make sure you also review then comment section there to glean the information that has been shared there. https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/scroll-saw-reviews/eclipse-r50/?tab=comments There is a Facebook group listed in the comments, I just checked it, and it seems to still be available with some activity by other owners. Probably worth checking out. https://www.facebook.com/groups/EclipseScrollSaw/ Also, Judy Gale Roberts at Intarsia.com has an Eclipse saw I believe still in her classroom shop. She clay be able to give you some more information. You can find her contact information on her website here. https://intarsia.com/pages/studio-tour There are also some other members here in the Village familiar with this saw. I think @Puzzleguy has one.
  24. . That was my first thought one scrap drawer! Who has ONE scrap DRAWER? Then, My second thought was well maybe it’s because Charlie is actually doing some work with his scraps unlike me. My hubby was going to burn some things down by the lake this past Weekend and threatened to use some of my large collection of. “Scraps” as kindling to start it with. Good thing he’s a woodworker himself even if he doesn’t scroll he understands the “need” for all those scraps. nice work on it Charlie.
  25. Beautiful job and memories in each ornament. Looks good on your tree stand.
