  3. Nice work, thanks for showing.
  4. Nice work Pete. Enjoy that Fl winter.
  5. Nice work. Charlie all around, you made one widow very happy.
  6. Another Tennessee welcome. Glad you joined us. Some nice work there.
  7. Another Tennessee welcome. Blades dull fairly quickly so they need to be changed fairly often. They are pennies in cost so not a big expense. I tend to “forget” changing and then when I do, think why didn’t I do it sooner.

    Hello!

Hi Linda and another welcome to the Village from Tennessee. Look forward to your participation. No need to fear the scroll saw as others noted. One of the safest tools out there.
  9. Thanks Scott for the reply. Mine is “full wattage” on all the time as best I can tell. I cannot recall if I tried poplar or not. I was surprised it did not burn the maple hardly at all even when I had it go over it like 20 times. I need to try the laser on the CNC machine which I think is 7 watts and see how well it burns. I was looking for something small and easy versus setting up the CNC, which would require more setup time and effort. The good news is that trying it with the little one first makes me more comfortable in trying it on the cnc machine. (Before I was concerned about burning something i didn’t mean to burn. )
  10. Jim, what I have found is that just a light sanding with a fine sandpaper removes most if not all of that “smoke” on the few pieces I did or when o get it with my branding iron.
  11. Welcome to the Village. Some great looking projects you have crafted. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Thanks for sharing Scott, I had bought a smaller one similar to the ones she has on the left on her site for same as you, to laser my name or signature on small pieces. It’s size is only 3” x 3”. I found it to be a little small and limiting. It uses the same software it looks like as what you are using, the bigger problem I found was that the strength of the laser was not enough to burn into some woods. It worked great on cardboard, and Baltic Burch plywood, but I had cut some maple ornaments and wanted to burn the year on them, it would not burn as needed no matter how many passes I did on it. It burned faintly enough that I could then use my wood burning hand tool to burn the year dark enough over it. What strength is the laser in the one you got? Have you tried burning it on harder woods like maple or walnut?
  13. Another Tennessee welcome. Glad you found us and look forward to seeing your work.

  16. Hey Jes, there are various Youtube videos out there (specify Intarsia with wood as there is also Intarsia with knitting.) Besides JGR's in person classes she offers here close to Knoxville area (she is just outside in Seymour a small area just outside Knoxville proper on the way to the Smokys,)and the classrooms in a tube which she offers, she also offers some Books and DVDs. They can be found on her site here: https://intarsia.com/collections/books-dvds - You can get the two DVDs as one set and save a little money. https://intarsia.com/products/intarsia-scroll-sawing-contouring-dvd-set?_pos=3&_sid=c5ff401f1&_ss=r They are Scroll Sawing for Accuracy and Contouring for Intarsia. I bought both and used them before I ever took one of her classes. I also have many of her books. This is the newest update to one for Beginners is Intarsia Workbook and is found here on her site:https://intarsia.com/products/intarsia-workbook-2nd-edition?_pos=1&_sid=136bba309&_ss=r All are great and offer lots of patterns to work with. Be sure to explore her site throughly because she has lots of help, information, tips, and some free patterns and more throughout the site. Bruce Worthington has an E-book where you craft a Teddy Bear. You can find his site here: http://www.intarsia.net and the link to the Ebook here: http://www.intarsia.net/e-book/Intarsia101.htm - If you scroll down on the main page of his website and look over to the left, there is also a 2nd Intarsia E-book listed and it is for shaping a rose. If you click on it, it should download the file to your computer. It will not open to a new page on his site. Also note that his site and Judy's are similarly named, the only difference is that Judy's is .com and Bruce's is .net. Kathy Wise is also one of the other prominent Intarsia Artists who creates and sells patterns, has books, and does classes. She also does a pattern of the month club. I have not taken any classes directly from her. I have however purchased and used some of her books to learn. Her main site is here: http://kathywise.com and you can find her books here: https://store7626357.ecwid.com/#!/Books/c/15463196/offset=0&sort=nameAsc and this book is her main beginner book, Intarsia Woodworking for Beginners: https://store7626357.ecwid.com/#!/Intarsia-Woodworking-for-Beginners/p/57175356/category=15463196 . She also provides some free patterns on her site. The pattern of the month club information can be found here: https://store7626357.ecwid.com/#!/Wise-Intarsia-Pattern-Club/c/27397997 as I understand it, she offers a closed group on Facebook for the Pattern of the Month Club where she and people working on the pattern can converse, get help, tips, information, etc. I have not tried the Club yet. One important thing to note about the pattern of the month club is that while the patterns in the club are exclusive to the club when first released - They can and have been released to the general public for purchase a few months later as she clearly notes on her information about the club.
  17. Hope this means you are feeling better Kevin.
  18. Les, we had the same problem many years ago - our solution was to build a new home. That was before I was involved much in the “shop.” Now we need a bigger shop but DH did give me and my scrollsaws and sanders some corner space in his shop with not too much whining most of the time, however, I still won’t give up MY parking in the garage. Jes, like others I tend to use the poplar and red oak I get from Lowe’s for the animal puzzles I have done.
  19. We never get bored with photos. Looking good. Look forward to seeing more photos as you move forward in completing it.
  20. I am always amazed on what you Eagle Eye tech junkies, mechanically inclined folks can see in pictures!
  21. Congratulations Jes, I know it’s been a hard long 14 months for you as you recover from the hurricane. Glad you finally got a chance to work in your shops and cut with your saw.
  22. Thanks a Larry, I look forward to hearing more on your tests and how it measures.
  23. Another Tennessee welcome to the Village. You don’t need to be an experienced scroller to contribute here. Any and all contribute everyday with questions, answers, photos of projects, patterns to try, links to info., patterns, and more. It is a great place with lots of information for beginners and experts and everyone in between. Be sure to look back through old posts for helpful information. if you are not familiar with Steve Good and his blog, be sure to check it out, he usually gives out a free pattern most days, provides lots of tips and information, and so much more. A great resource for all scrollers, but in particular those of us new to it. You can find him here: http://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/
