Nice work Dan. Like you, I much prefer hardwoods over Baltic Burch plywood. However. I thought I would cut some of these this afternoon and thought I would do them first in the BB plywood since I had some available that way if I messed them up, I wouldn’t mind as bad. I went with the middle size on 1/4” thick. I have glued the stable pieces together, but am thinking about how I want to finish out the overall pieces. I am thinking of staining the stable and the base darker and leaving the other pieces more natural. I am also thinking of trying one maybe with some colored stains on them or maybe doing some wood burning. Not sure yet, I am muddling it all over in my brain overnight at least. I did decide to turn the tree around because I thought it hides Mary’s face too much although yours does not appear to do so like mine did when I set it up together. Also, did you glue Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus to both the stable wall and the bottom ground or did you leave a little space between them and the stable wall? I had some 1/8” thick scrap of walnut that I had stacked up to cut 4 of the smallest ones like you have done but I have not cut them out yet. Pattern on and ready to go. Maybe tomorrow. I like how you turned them into ornaments. After cutting the 1/4” and seeing how small it was, I was hesitating about going smaller with these. May cut them and steal your idea and make them into ornaments as well. hopefully mine will look half as good as yours. Thanks for sharing.

As everyone has noted, it is indeed a beautiful piece of art you have hand crafted. The quilling adds an extra depth, dimension and color to your fairy. I have done some quilting over the years, pretty sure I still have a quilling tool or two in my workroom. Maybe one day I can add some dimension to a project. Thanks for showing.

@CharleyL so glad you took a couple minutes to come visit and let us know you survived this most recent surgery to repair your heart. It sounds like the new stent and pace maker are doing the job and helping you clear away all that excess fluid, prayers continue for you as you spend some time recovering and adjusting to this pacemaker, take your time and do what they tell you.

Hello Faye and welcome to the Village. You noted you have a Scan n Cut paper cutter. I also have electronic paper cutters. A lot of patterns from paper cutting and scroll sawing can be used with the other medium. You didn’t mention having a Scroll Saw though. Do you have one now or looking to buy one soon?

Nice first project Tammi. In regards to how to respond to an individual post, on the bottom of each post, you should see a “Quote” in blue, if you click there, it should copy and “quote” the text down to the input box at the end where you would enter your next text to that post. The “quote” will be in a “box” and I go down below the box so my reply is outside of the quote box as you should be able to see as I did here. If you want to only quote part of a post, you can go into the quote box and edit as desired. I will do that if I only want to quote part of something that I am replying to as again I did here. If you do quote someone, they will get a notification (if everything is setup that way). You can also “tag” someone by using the @ sign in front of their forum name as I have again done here with your’s. @Tammi201. When you tag someone it will also give them a notification so they can come back and check out your reply. If you aren’t sure of someone’s exact user name, if you add the @ and start typing, you will get a list of user forum names that are matching the start of what you are typing.

Most of those are all “Tootsie Rolls” they are just different size rolls and/or packages. The original flavor is chocolate, but they also later introduced other “flavored” ones, a “Tootsie Pop” is a hard coated sucker with a tootsie roll center. I suspect that most of you missed @CharleyL's post earlier this week because he added it to an old thread of mine regarding my first attempts at doing Compound Cuts from almost 2 years ago. In his post, he noted that he was undergoing another heart surgery (his 7th) today, Wed., Oct. 9th. He noted that he was hoping for a good result but that he had previously died on the table before while having a heart procedure so he was hoping that we wouldn't lose him this time. I pray that he makes it off that table and he is doing well soon and then that we hear from him soon so we know he is doing okay. THEN I want to ask everyone to make some reindeers - just like Charley has made and then to give them away, just as Charley notes he has done for 15 years. You can make them to give away as you see fit, or we can make them and send some of them to Charley so he can give them away when he is doing better in case he doesn't get to make them this year while he is recovering from this latest setback. I think Charley would appreciate us carrying on this tradition for him while he is healing. I haven't cut any of the reindeer yet, but I hope to do some soon. I will make some to give away, and then once we hear from Charley, if he would like, I will send some to him to give away while he is away from his saw. I hope some of you can join me.

Glad you think the shed and everything in is ok. Being stuck in the shed might not be too bad, at least you could work as you wanted without being disturbed (as long as power is still there.)

@CharleyL I am afraid your post may be lost here in this “old” thread and feel that would be a shame. I want to let you know however that I will be praying for you and the medical staff before and on Wed. specifically As you undergo your most recent heart surgery. I pray that God will watch over and protect you and will guide your surgeon’s hands and those of the entire medical staff. I will pray that things go smoothly so you can heal and get back to the things you love, your family, your photography and your Scroll Saw and that you can soon be cutting more reindeer to gift to others and bring joy to their holiday season. While I have cut several compound cuts now, I have yet to try the reindeer but I will do so soon in honor and thanks for you and your sharing how here with us. I pray that you will be able to give us a positive update soon after your surgery and will look for it. God bless.

Ray, I am sorry to hear that your precious son Doug succumbed to his illness. While I knew he had been struggling, based on some previous discussions we had had a while back, I did not know of your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family as you go through the process of mourning your loss. I hope that you all find comfort in remembering the good times that you had with him as a family over the years and remember that he had an illness that you all could do nothing to heal. When I lost my mother about 3 1/2 years ago to Alzheimer’s, I found great comfort and solace on time on the Saw. I hope that you too will be able to do so soon.
