  1. Good luck with the new business. I remember starting my business in 1971. I used to worry day by day. Then week by week, then month by month until I realized that was not going to help me. I just worked hard every day and the business became successful. Ran it for 30 years until selling it in 2001. Don't let naysayers hinder you.

    Terrific piece!
  3. Nice puzzles but I love the plaques.
  4. I love your work. You are very creative. More importantly is your health. Please don't stress if possible and take care of yourself. We need you here.
  5. What a fantastic and interesting piece. The lettering looks perfect. Is that free hand or a stencil or what. Really excellent!
  6. Really nice cutting and a beautiful piece. I also wondered about the lighting. I used to use grain of wheat and grain of rice years ago when I was model railroading. Wonder if there is something like led's that can be used now.
  7. I love cutting pine because of the beautiful saw dust it makes. But really, I do it because I have lots of it and it cuts well. I just cut to amuse myself. Mostly names and word art. I finish with 50/50 BLO and mineral spirits. I just dip in a shallow tray. When dry I spray with clear lacquer. Some things I just paint with a spray can. I also cut some Poplar as it is available at HD or Lowes.
  8. I like vintage machinery. Before I tried scrolling I was kind of serious about the P S wood's saw. The you tube video caught my interest. The price bothered me not knowing anything about saw prices. After lurking on SSV for awhile I read about the Hawk and found two on craig's list. However, thinking they look sorta like a Heagner with the belt drive I surely would consider it and would not fear buying a used one depending on price. What do I know!
  9. What wonderful work you have done. You have proven what can be done on an inexpensive machine. I will never be a competent scroller even with a million dollar machine. There are some physical reasons of course but it is the scroller not the machine that creates the art.You have done that. Congratulations!
  10. You can buy an assortment from most vendors which will give you the opportunity to experiment. That's what did but still have not decided which I like best.
  11. I went to the Denver Woodcraft store last week. They had a King scroll saw on display. Only a couple of people in the store. I tried to ask the guy at the cash register, who was just standing there doing nothing, about the saw. He didn't seem to want to talk to me. I just left. Must not have been too interested in selling one. Just as well as I have a couple of old Hawks which work flawlessly.
  12. I thought aluminum can prices were up.
  13. Welcome! Always good to see "Young ones" here. Your work looks wonderful. Thanks for sharing with us.
  14. I only scroll for my own amusement. Some of the patterns I have purchases say, "Five copies may be made for personal use only." I always make two copies. One for cutting and the original and other copy go into a binder. My cutting skills are not good enough for sale. Don't even know where to give them away. Neither my wife or two daughters are into scrolled items. They think, "Let the old man scroll. It keeps him happy." I'm going to be 100 years old in only 21 years. I'm happy!
  15. Those are beautiful cuttings.
  16. It might be simple but it really looks great. Love the idea.
  17. That is very nice.
  18. Great looking pieces. I'm sure they will be appreciated for a long time.
  19. King of Script! You do some great work. Love word art.
  20. I've had those. They HURT!
  21. Looks like you are off to a great start.
  22. WOW, that looks great. Very nice cutting.
  23. Welcome from Colorado. You're gonna like it here!
  24. Welcome aboard from Colorado!
  25. I always make copies of patterns I purchase. But then I never sell anything which would be a no no.
