  1. I have a lot of thin pieces of wood that are too narrow to use for much and I have been ripping them to 1.5-inch widths and making blocks for compound cutting. This is the first one I cut from it.
  2. My first saw had only one speed fast. When I first got my EX-21, I could not figure out why I needed to slow it down. I didn't figure out why until I started trying to cut 1/8-inch plywood.
  3. This isn't football.
  4. I'm guessing this is a typo. Pinless scroll saw blades are typically about 5 inches.
  5. Etsy and Goimagine are about all I can handle right now. I'm not losing money on Goimagine. If it were not for the custom orders I get from Etsy, I would have lost money on Etsy this year.
  6. I have cut fretwork from various materials, from pallets to expensive exotic woods. Wood's natural characteristics can sometimes lead to breakage, as it may have hidden defects that cause it to fall apart. If you have wood available, try it, but be sure to pay attention to the direction of the grain. You will find patterns where there is no good way to cut them without the grain being a problem. For the items that need strength, I have made plywood.
  7. DEWALT ATOMIC 20-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Combo Kit (2-Tool) with (2) 2.0Ah Batteries, Charger and Bag I think this is a good deal. I can't buy the bare tools for this price.
  8. Here you go: https://scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/2024/08/butterfly-art-scroll-saw-patterns.html
  9. I learned to use a scroll saw, making animal cutouts from the Scroll Saw Pattern Book by Patrick Spielman ISBN:0806947721 ISBN13:9780806947723. To my mind, creating something while trying to learn was much better than spending my time making scraps and sawdust. Start simple, and move to more complex projects as your skills develop. Surprisingly, the simple cutouts and other simple animal projects were popular with kids. Two generations later, grandchildren and grandnieces are still playing with them.
  10. I bought some parchment for Sam's Club and I plan to test it soon.

  12. It looks like something I would try to see if I could do it.
  13. I'm going to need to try some parchment paper.
  14. It is rare for me to create a pattern, but when I do, I use Inkscape and occasionally Gimp.
  15. There are many good suggestions here, and picking one as the best solution wasn't easy. @kmmcrafts did not provide a perfect solution, but he did send me down the path to a solution that I think will work well for me. Not that the others would not have worked. Thanks to all who gave their suggestions.
  16. There are a lot of branding irons available on Amazon. I would go for the electric one with a temperature control. I have wanted one of these for years but hesitated because of the cost and because the smallest branding iron is too large for most things I make.
  17. Great idea. I had not thought of that.
  18. I thought about that, but plastics can be a bit strange with glue. I have some that glue or paint will not bond to, and others that, if you get wood glue on them, it's there for keeps. I have a workmate with plastic jaws I got glue on more than 30 years ago, and it is still there.
  19. What about a nonstick cookie sheet? They are cheap.
  20. I was thinking of using the foam roller to spread the glue on the wax paper.
  21. It sounds like I need a flat surface that the glue will not soak into and something to spread it evenly. I was thinking of wax paper. Doesn't the glue soak into the parchment?
  22. I vaguely remember someone using a foam roller. Would this work?
  23. I'm trying to make one of these: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1502011466/ I have it cut and put together, but some layers came apart, primarily because I could not get the Titebond II on fast enough. I initially applied it with a brush. For the top layer, I 3M 77 did not come off, but I had to clean up some overspray that got on the edges. I have made similar smaller pieces that worked fine, but this one is probably 4 to 5 times as large. What is the technique you use?
  24. The real Loc-Line is very tight, unlike the knockoffs that usually come on saws. I highly recommend the tool. I changed mine to the real thing because the one that came with the saw would not stay in place and was too short.
  25. I still have two 1/4-sheet sanders only because I have a lot of sandpaper cut to fit. It is 80 grit left over from a project I did long ago. When I got my hands on random orbit sander, I almost quit using them.
