  1. Cedar for sure, but I am working on my first project using mahogany and I am growing very fond of the aroma.
  2. Very Cool
  3. A quick project I worked on over the weekend. Used 2/0 FD spiral blades on 1/8 BB ply. Red cedar for the frame. Designed by Lora Irish
  4. I used a glue stick while making my dominos. It did not hold very well but there is a good chance that it was a 15 year old glue stick...
  5. Great work! Thanks for sharing
  6. Thanks everyone! Definitely the most useful thing I've scrolled so far. My wife is hounding me for her own set now.
  7. Thanks to a thread someone posted about a domino pattern, I found the perfect gift to make for my father-in-law. They're whole family plays dominos every time they get together, so I knew he would get some good use out of them. I used 1/2" yellowheart and stack cut two at a time. I had some #7 Olson Skip Tooth blades that were too big for anything else I have cut and I didn't know what I would ever use them for, well now I know. They made quick work of the 1" thick cuts with very little burning. Used the saw to cut the divider line in each domino and burned the dots. He was very happy with them but I didn't allow him to take them home yet. I had a very busy weekend and wanted to get them done so we could play a game last night ( I won!) but I still want to put a coat of poly gel on them to really make the yellow pop. I will post another picture when that part is complete.
  8. If anyone does want some pallet wood, check your local roofing supply company. We have mountains of them laying around and are grateful when people take them off our hands.
  9. Thank you for sharing. I am still very green to scrolling and I hadn't really paid attention to how I was feeding the saw. I thought I was doing good but once I read this I really started paying attention to using my fingers and WHOA! big improvement. So thanks again to you and all of the others that share these useful tips to us rookies!
  10. Sweet Rig!! The hook ups are an awesome detail.
  11. Portrait of my cousin and Grandpa. Cut in 1/2 maple with a BB backer stained with Jacobean. Finished with a clear satin spray lacquer. Thanks for the design DonR.! I used FD puzzle blades for almost the entire project. I went through a lot of them but they worked great cutting the details.
  12. Very nice pattern and cut. Good work!
  13. I don't know about that but I would be glad to post the design once we get out photocopier up and running. It will be a pattern that can be easily tweaked... I should say, will have to be tweaked. It was freehanded on paper then transferred to the wood with carbon paper. My wife burned it first so my job was easy since I had huge (comparatively speaking) lines to follow. A lot of the detail was freehanded/free-cut so it would be hard to duplicate but if anyone wants to play with the design to burn or just cut, feel free.
  14. Finished product of the Alice In Wonderland Clock. Designed and burned by my wife, cut by me. Wood is 1/2" cherry, about 11" in diameter. She ended up giving it to her mother for mothers day. It was hard to let go.
  15. I was going to say mahogany but it looks like everyone else already did.
  16. Thank You All!!!
  17. Great. Thank You. I will let you know how it turns out.
  18. Good morning everyone. I am working on making a clock from scratch and I am a little lost on buying the clock movements. If my wood is 1/2" thick, what shaft length would I need? A lot of what I see says 1/2" total shaft length. Does that mean it will fit 1/2" wood or that's as long as the shaft is and I need something bigger? Never done this before so any help would be great? Thanks Villagers!
  19. Forgot to put the finished project on here.
  20. Very cool. I really like the pattern.
  21. I just took a little vacation from work with grand ideas of spending a majority of my time on my saw... Well the wife wanted to go camping, so that's what we did. I caught 12 largemouth and I would be giving myself credit if I said they all totaled up the weight of your one fish. Good Catch!
  22. I am starting my first Intarsia project and ordered some wood from Ocooch Hardwoods(thanks for the advice, Village) I finished the patterns I had left and was stuck on what I wanted to do next while I waited for it to show up. So my wife comes out, has me cut her a piece of 1/4 poplar, and disappears back into the house for 20 minutes. Out comes this tree she burnt into the wood. She thought she screwed up by making the limbs too narrow but I thought it was perfect. Now she is excited to keep burning me projects to cut, and I'm excited to have my own little designer! I will add a pic of the finished project. It might take awhile because my intarsia wood is showing up today and I'm very anxious to get started.
  23. Thanks for the post. I have been cutting a lot of puzzles as well, trying to build up my inventory before doing some farmers markets this summer. I haven't been cutting very long and have no real process yet to speed things up. This will definitely get me headed in the right direction.
