  1. The only magazine I'm aware of for Scroll Sawing is Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts - which is a quarterly? Is that about it that's specific for Scrolling? I have lots of pattern books, but looking for magazines Thanks in advance
  2. Nice! I really like the background - what is that wrapping paper?
  3. That's an attempt? LOL - well done! Thanks for sharing
  4. Great news! Glad it's nothing serious! I just ordered the MyPillow specials - Pillows are $25 each with the special which are usually $99 We'll see if they are worth the advertisements that guy talks about all day long
  5. Well i did!
  6. Yah, I was going to do that as well but this was one of the first things I did and it just seemed easier at the time to do a portrait
  7. Welcome back - nice stuff - thanks for sharing
  8. Thanks Dan - yeah me too - looking for a pirate ship pattern now.
  9. Agreed! If I can post my sloppy mess I call a shop, anyone can post theirs as well LOL
  10. I think the ship is my favorite to date... 1/8" BB ply - Golden Oak stain with pre-stain. Frame is pine with Maple stain The light house - again 1/8" BB Ply, no stain just a poly finish. Frame is Pine with Mahogany stain The Love sign - 1/8" bb ply with Golden oak stain. Outer frame is Pine with no stain, inner frame is 'L' ping molding with Mahogany stain Thanks for looking
  11. Nice! The pine got it's wish LOL
  12. Very cool shop - that's great your dad was able to pass his knowledge and skills on to you! Thanks for sharing!
  13. I've never been very good at woodworking - in fact I still am not. I took woodworking in grammar school but wasn't permitted to take it in H.S. (long story about student prejudice during the 70's). I needed something to do in spare time rather than spend money endlessly with nothing to show. I had purchased a table saw quite a few years ago, on a whim I dusted it off and tried to make a workbench for the wife's planting since wanted to grow vegies. I found a bunch of a websites/forums and joined a few, asked a boat load of questions and eventually was able to make a work bench with wheels (I still have and use the first 3 I made). One of the was a 8' x 3' table I made because I didn't think I would be able to measure and cut anything to size. As time went on, I started to make jigs for the shop practicing skills etc.and decided my old craftsman table saw was not cutting it - literally! So, after a bunch of research I bought a Delta 36-725! And things started to turn around - I was able to actually cut straight, learned how to measure and cut and started to learn a bunch of things about woodworking. I was really getting excited and found an incredible online woodworking course by Steve Ramsey! The course was cheap, and I had been watching his videos for several weeks and enjoyed his style, so i took the class. It was an incredible experience! With his guidance, I started to make actual furniture which looked really decent! I started to think maybe I could make stuff and sell it. One problem started to plague me though as I thought more about this... I didn't have the room to make a bunch of furniture and store it while I waited for it to sell. I mentioned this to someone on the woodworking forum I was visiting and they suggested I come here and have a look around - which I did. Once I got here, I started to look at all the great works and researched and questioned the members and eventually bought my Wen. Wow what a difference! Not only was I able to make something within minutes and know exactly what it was, but it was also small and easily able to be stored in one of the cabinets I had made. That was all it took - I now really enjoy scrolling, hoping to one day sell a few items - if not I'll just give them away to anyone who will take them.
  14. Now that is sweet! Thanks for sharing - I knew your inlay would be incredible!
  15. I get these as well - they're on list which is not way to long to even look at LOL Thanks for sharing - nicely cut and nicely painted - well done!
  16. Looks great Rocky - it's clean - and lucky you, you have A/C 0 wish I did :( Lucky
  17. Ok then - here goes... It's not pretty and one thing I would like is a real shop. It gets kind of cramped at times and I try to keep it clean by putting things away at the end of each session so I can start the next session with everything where it belongs. Unfortunately, the wife is now in the shop and she just can't get the hang of putting things away at the end of each session. I built all the carts and work benches as well as all the jigs. Hope this isn't too many pics, so here goes: Outside looking in - what a mess To the left are my drip boxes and extra table set up - in the back is my 8' work bench Cleat wall - Tools, tool box, stationary work bench Used to be my layout table until I got into scrolling - now it's a scroll table LOL Delta saw in front and Wen behind it. Against the wall is the wifes work bench I made for her Big HF dust control in corner - hiding behind the scrap buckets - table saw on the left Setup a centipede table now for layout and framing Chemical and stain cabinet - repurposed it from a bookcase made in the only woodworking class I've taken Miter station - I hardly use it anymore Clamp Wall - I make my own pipe clamps Look back - Skil 9" band saw, grinder, HF disc sander and new Wen drill press you can't see That's enough I think Wish I had room to spread out Can't wait to see everyone else...
  18. Wow, you can really put out not only quantity but quality work! Thanks for sharing your "stuff"
  19. Question: If you paint your projects, do you paint them before or after you apply some type of finish/coating? I've been using pre-stain before staining projects and it helps keep the stain even through out the work. Not sure how/when you paint projects though and what type of paint do you use - Acrylic Model paint? Thanks in advance
  20. I haven't started to mix finishes yet since I have no idea what to mix and what the outcomes would be. However, I wanted to jump in an offer that I never allow glass jars in the shop - only plastic! I had a few drop and the contents went everywhere. Since then we save every type of clear plastic container that would hold something or other for the shop. We save Plastic only: Peanut butter jars Mayo jars Pickle Jars Coleslaw containers - like you get from a deli Condiment containers - you know the small ones you get at fast food places with the tops - these work really well for paints and stuff Parmesan jars Coffee containers - large, Medium and small And more...
  21. Nice one Kevin - thanks for sharing
  22. Geez, they look incredible! Thanks for sharing them
  23. The formula as I've read it is: W of piece + w of framing * 2, - width of rabbet. So, an 11 x 14 piece with a 2" frame with a 1/4" rabbet should be: W = 11 + 4 - 1/2 = 14 1/2 W = 14 + 4 - 1/2 14 1/2 x 17 1/2 HOWEVER - that never works for me LOL - I simply measure the width of the piece and that becomes the "short" edge of the miter and subtract the width of the rabbet. I prefer to use 'L" molding rather than fuss with miter cuts since I've not used my router more than once LOL Also, I always cut both sides together so they are always the same length - top and bottom have to be equal and left and right have to be equal
  24. That's very cool - thanks for sharing
  25. That's a beauty! Well done and thanks for sharing it
