Well, my Wen 3966T finally arrived yesterday! Last night, the wife and I put it together - well actually it was mostly already together, we just put the legs on, the table and attached the accessories. This is a very interesting saw for the price $741 no shipping charge from Amaz! It has quite a few options the more expensive saws have, but for 1/2 the price! 2 speeds, nice dust port as well as a dust drawer when the port is not connected, easy raising of the upper blade guard, LED light, circle jig, full cast iron table, reversible fence, miter gauge, 100 3/4" blade comes with 3/4" can take from 1/8" up to 1". I used it a bit this morning, cut a few small pieces. Seems to be already tuned. I did however, have to purchase the Wen mobile base, well didn't have to, but figured was worth my time not to make my own and focus on using and getting comfortable with the saw. I also ordered a new 1/8" blade $17 so I can do tight curves which is primarily why I wanted this, Here are some pics - sorry some are blurry as my hand is shaking more these days and the tripod was inside. Full saw - it's on a dolly at the moment, so it may seem a bit high Came with a push stick and you can see the guide rail - not a bad one for now Guide rail and base - 2 speeds adjusted from inside the bottom using the drive belt Nice cast iron table, easy to raise and lower the upper guide for larger/higher wood pieces Came with a circle cutting jig as well The reversible fence is a bit wonky, but easily usable for now And an LED light out of the way unless I want it, can reach around to the front easily That's about it for now Thanks as always in advance for reading - sorry about the blurry pics

I have no where near the xp most have here, but having done full time scrolling I do have a specific machine in mind that I know does not exist but if it did I would buy it... 26" inch depth expandable to 30" 20" Wide table with fold up/down wings 2 way table tilt - tilts both left and right Self greasing/oiling/maintaining or have grease nuts for easy greasing QUIET No shaking even at the highest speeds Comes with a portable base on wheels with drawers, tool and blade storage slots Built in rotating magnifier with high lumens LED light Blade cartridge for easy blade swap - available separately for additional blade loads - I'd buy 10 or 20 of them LOL Priced affordably, less than $1k with guaranteed parts available for the next 20 years! I could really go on with a few more "wants"

:Love that dragon!

The black IMO is much easier to see - I really couldn't make out the image in the red but the black really Popped for me

No, it is not hyper - but it is up 3 1/2% since January and expected to reach 5 by October! Mortgage Interest rates are also on the rise - I believe you'll see actual backlash if it hits 10 - unlike the 70's where nothing was done
-
Actually, no we don't!

I haven't seen this article - I wonder where the prices are going down, because it sure is not in my area! My area tends to NOT be similar to the rest of the country

Love your car cuts! Nicely done - thanks for sharing them
-
I actually like it as well - looks like he is in the shadows of a fence or barn slats peering in to his next meal. Nicely done

Just went to my supplier, all wood in his mill went up minimum $.50 and as much as $1.00 per bd ft. Poplar is now costing me $3.50 bd ft or $51 per 16'x10" board. Insanity - thanks to you know who! Anyway, basswood however did manage to go down $.10 a bd ft Looks like I'll be trying out Grandis for some of our projects - it is not expected to increase in price in fact is expected to decrease slightly. Thanks in advance for reading

I love train models! Nicely done and grats!

As always - incredible! Thanks for sharing your work even though it pisses me off LOL - so talented!

I bought a few gross last time I purchased. I'm only using Pegas MFG #3 these days and a #5 and #12 once in awhile for separating boards. I had a skill saw 9" band saw, and I really didn't like it. When I used it, if felt "weak" and flimsy. The table was not very sturdy - I sold it for a loss and was glad to get rid if it. I don't really intend to re-saw wood for the most part but I wanted to be able to if I needed. The mill I get my wood from now will resaw anything for me free so I don't really need the saw for that. I'm hoping to use it more for quickening the cutting of some of my pieces. I use my table saw currently for getting a straight edge on the bottom of some pieces. And wall hangers I'm hoping to decrease the cut time for the bases. We'll see "Wen" it gets here <- I did a funny LOL

I have that air cleaner as well - no issues so far. I also have a Wen 10" drill press I am very happy with and my first scroll saw was the 2910 (I think) Wen which i still keep under a table LOL They shipped the Wen already so it should be here by the weekend

Rather than make 2 threads, thought I would combine... Blades - has anyone else noticed, when purchasing a pack/bulk blades there are a few in the pack not as sharp as the others? I've noticed this more these days, than in the past. Maybe it's me? New Saw... So, I've been on the fence about buying a Band Saw for awhile now and just could not justify spending $1k or more on a 14" saw! I found this Wen band saw the other day and decided to pull the trigger and get it. I hope it works out. I have several other Wen products and no problems with any of them so far Thanks as always in advance for reading

Agreed - no more coke in this house!

Wood prices, be on the lookout for...
new2woodwrk replied to new2woodwrk's topic in General Scroll Sawing
Yeppers, all $10 of it! Spread that over the hundreds of feet of boards and it comes out to what, $0.0001 per brd ft? Come on stop being so negative. Just because you don't like something or want free wood, doesn't mean others should avoid it. It's up to each of us to decide what is good for our shops based on accurate information provided, not opinions void of facts. Btw, I've heard this story of blade breakage on many other forums and have yet to see a single example of a broken blade. Another old wives tale IMO. Now, if you're talking strictly of pallet wood, then I would agree there are/can be hidden metal objects which is where the metal detector comes in very handy. At the same time there are also hidden metal objects found in many trees that are cut and processed for sale. In fact I found a hidden nail in a pine board I bought from Lowes! I don't blame them, but it did make me look for alternative sources and scan every piece of wood I bring into my shop In fact there was a video posted here awhile ago of someone who broke several blades on a saw mill cutting a tree trunk. In the middle they found a fence post (or some type of metal post). Now THAT'S expensive LOL -
Wen has a new saw on the market - 3921 takes both pinned and pinless blades Wen was my first saw which I still have and is not a bad saw. It is lightweight, easily mountable to plank for easy setup and break down. May or may not be a drawback is it's only 16". But if you're on the road and not doing large projects it might be perfect I know the price point alone is a very attractive feature just over $100! We bought an enclosed trailer for our scrolling business and fully expect to take it on the road with us when the wife retires in a few years. We have a 6x12, and fits everything we need for scrolling and setting up a sales shop at events/outdoor markets etc. It is also easily customizable to be able to sleep and eat once we get closer to that "end of the road" time for us

Wood prices, be on the lookout for...
new2woodwrk replied to new2woodwrk's topic in General Scroll Sawing
That's what metal detectors are for IMO reclaimed wood is by far and away the best deal available Yes, I've done a lot of pallet work and always on the look out for them One place I've found that is pallet rich is the local news paper office - they are constantly throwing them away and have told me anytime I want them come and get them Problem is they want me to take all of them - that's over 30 at a time LOL -
So prices have stabilized in my area for hard/soft woods - ply continues to be wonky so I'm avoiding it for a bit. Anyway, just wanted to mention to be on lookout for discarded furniture and pieces. Yesterday while walking the dogs, I noticed a neighbor had thrown out a bunch of cabinet doors. I grabbed them all and found out they are all solid wood - looks like poplar, about 1/2" thick. Neighbor came out and said he had a dresser he was throwing out as well. SCORE! Solid oak! about 1/2" all around. A few drawer rungs were pine but most of it oak! just a reminder to keep an eye out for discarded treasure!

Yeah, same here. I take a pic and try to get it clean, but if not no biggie - just post it

Living in a beach community, many of our customers want beachy items. They don't really go for things with the area name in them but they do go for Sea oriented items. Some of our best customer are little ones and often know what they want and what they don't want is what their parents want them to want LOL. Here are some of our little ones most popular items (unfinished so they can color them) And one of our colored samples the kids love The adults go for other items however

Last few years (just after the Hurricane that nearly wiped us out) I avoided the shop in the summer- just too unbearable for me This year however things have significantly changed. Since we're both scrolling a lot these days, we've purchased several heaters for the winter that worked really well - Winter for us is on and off between Dec and March. Some days/weeks are really cold, some not so much Recently (in an other thread) I sectioned off the working portion of the garage/shop and added a window A/C (5k btu) it does a fair job of keeping that area cool enough to work Basically, we now have a 12 month a year working environment - so far so good Oh and we're in NW Florida hot/cold/humid/raining you name it we have it

I do pretty much nothing but puzzles these days I do several types and can tell you from a child's perspective based on our sales history, what parents like is NOT what the children like The most popular puzzles for children we make are unfinished pine or basswood puzzles. We make and advertise this as art projects they can color themselves using watercolors and food dye! For girls they like Mermaids, Unicorns, Butterfiles and sometimes dinosaurs - all of which we have a nice assortment For boys they like Dinosaurs the most, some cars/vehicles (police cars, ambulance and mostly firetruck and space shuttle) boy are also older boys love dragons any type Woodcraftbyscott has lots of patterns for sale reasonably priced and there are many, many free ones all over the internet Best of luck
