  1. Welcome from here in the UK too. Would love to see the kind of wood you use, so post pictures frequently
  2. I agree with everyone else, they are stunning and the finish is brilliant. May I ask how/with what do you paint ? Brush/airbrush/acrylic etc. ?
  3. After your initial post, I gave this process a try. It works great on other things too. Thanks. x
  4. Welcome to the Village John, it's a great place
  5. It's great for taking patterns off, especially delicate stuff. I use it all the time. I find it dries within seconds of removing pattern though. Maybe because I use just a dab or two, enough to dampen the paper. We get it for about £4 for a 2ltr bottle
  6. Oh Wow !! Fantastic !!
  7. So lovely to hear from you again, a lot of people were quite concerned, me included. Sending Love + Hugs from this side of the ocean. One step at a time and you'll be back on your feet. Post Covid is not easy but we are all wishing you well.
  8. Thank you, alas I can't remember what it's called. I put it in my computer, reversed it as in turned it over so that it looks back to front, I print a dozen on a page and then cut one out when needed. I tape to my work and apply laquer thinner sparingly, rub with the back of a spoon and hey presto, it's on my wood. After that I either apply a spray finish or go over the signature with my pyrography pen. Simples !!
  9. transfer and pyrography pen
  10. I've used this set up for several years. My other half made it for me about 3yrs ago for my pyrography. I also use it with a cover for my final spray finishing.
  11. I found a nice font, turned it over so that it looks back to front, print a dozen on a page and then cut one out when needed. I tape to my work and apply laquer thinner sparingly, rub with the back of a spoon and hey presto, it's on my wood. After that I either apply a spray finish or go over the signature with my pyrography pen. Simples !!
  12. I think 'signing' your work is all that's needed. That's all I do, but there again it's just a hobby for me and I don't do enough to warrant a 'Brand/Trademark'.
  13. Welcome to the Village Tony from here in sunny Doncaster. As you've noticed, it's a lovely, friendly place to be. I came here as a complete rookie, knowing absolutely nothing about a scrollsaw and all these good people chipped in and helped. They never thought my 'newbie' questions were silly and took the time and patience to teach me. They are an amazing family. I've tried elsewhere to join various groups but have left because, as you say, they made me feel quite inadequate sometimes. One even asked 'why would you take up scrolling so late in life ? I'm 70yrs. What's the point ?'' Well, with the help of this Village family I've gone from plain and simple silhouettes to complex fretwork and I'm still loving every minute. Enjoy your new hobby but be aware it's quite addictive
  14. You'd have to use some form of dust collection but then it would depend on your neighbours I imagine. A saw + vacuum creates a LOT of noise.
  15. Goodness. that is so pretty. I'd love to cut it but not sure I have the skill. You have my admiration !!
  16. Wow. Patience and Skill in abundance !!
  17. Dont' fret,,, a strong wind will bring it down. It wasn't far short of being brilliant !!
  18. Basically,,, Yes !! - I did cover it several thin coats of 50/50 pva glue + water before I cut it, then put a few coats of clear poly on it , rubbed with brown paper and Bingo. A simple solution for what the girls wanted.
  19. That was my first idea John, but some of the writing was so 'fine' it wouldn't transfer to my liking. I didn't feel like doing 10 puzzles by hand with my pyrography machine, so this was a way easier option. I imported the 'wood' image as the B/B I have is too 'white' to look like wood
  20. Welcome to the Village from up here in sunny Doncaster.. It's a great place to be and tons of experience to draw upon from very experienced scrollers. Enjoy !
  21. Thanks John.. Couldn't have done it without your instructions but I have lots of ideas now because of them,,!
  22. Inkscape. I took a 'wood vector image' and a 'puzzle' pattern off the internet and saved them in a folder on my computer. I then imported the puzzle, created the words I needed and put the words in the puzzle and grouped everything together and saved it. Then I imported the 'wood' image as layer 1 and added a second layer and imported the puzzle, locked the two together and pressed print. !!!
  23. Done with the technique shown by @john nelson. Saved me so much work and the girls are happy with it. 8"x5" I'm doing 10 of them, one for each table.
  24. I'd just put a backer on it and round off the corners personally. I've done several different ways with a piece. A backer ½" bigger all round, full frame, just rounding the corners. All look good in my opinion and I've never had a complaint about whichever way.
