Mmm, not sure if this will make sense. I click on my image then go up to 'Path' and choose 'Trace Bitmap' this will give you a copy of your image and then you can colour it and put an outline on it ready for cutting.

This really is the friendliest site you'll come across and I'm so sorry you feel this way. As has been said, people just tend to 'join' in the conversation by saying what they 'use' for doing the task you mentioned. I'm sure your little gadget works wonders for taking 'labels' off but I too use mineral spirits to remove my patterns. That doesn't in anyway belittle your original post it just adds to it. The Scotty Peeler looks like something I would use, just not for taking my patterns off.

I didn't find it negative at all, just the opposite actually. I know nothing about starting fluid and now I do. Don't use it, I'm bad enough with glue !!!

It's one I have in my 'pattern' file, I think it was a 'vector' picture that I saved as I quite liked it.

Something simple after all those 'spots' And I know just the little girl who would love to have this. I'll surprise her over the weekend with it.

Thanks Jim. No, I didn't, I'm absolutely useless with spirals. I used a Niqua #3 scroll reverse blade. I must confess it's my 'go to blade' as I feel very comfortable with it.

Aww, Bless you Paul. Thank you so much for those kind comments. I genuinely enjoy scrolling and this place has taught me so much, and it's people like you that keep me in my workshop

Many thanks once again to @Birchbark for doing this pattern for me, it's truly appreciated. They are leaving home on Sunday I do hope it's to their liking but if not they can stay here with me, I love them.

It was a bit. I certainly stopped once or twice to 're-focus' More an exercise of 'keep on the lines. otherwise it would look 'wonky' !!

Tried it today and it works really well. It's relatively quiet to run and comes on and off with my saw. Now,,,, what else do I need

Thanks John, but I've never used my saw without ear protection and a face mask. I've seen so much damage caused by 'noise' and dust in my lifetime to consider 'protection' a must !!

Tony bought me my very own vac today, he thought he'd buy me one of my own so he can have his back for his workshop Now I feel like a 'proper' scroller !!!

Today I tried adding some photos to my Gallery. I've always had trouble doing this. However, today I tried doing if from Chrome instead of my usual I,E. and it ''WORKED''. It's quite an eclectic mix but I do so love trying different patterns. I'm quite proud of the progression I've made over this last year, from simple Silhouettes to more complex pieces. Thank you all for your words of wisdom and encouragement that made it possible.

I was given a photo of the ladys' wrought iron gate and asked to make a 'replica' of it in wood. Now I have no idea who designed the gate, so can't give anyone credit. What I did was to put the photo through Inkscape and push the 'Trace Bitmap' button and voila !!! I now have a permanent copy in my files just in case I want to do it again.

I always test the heat on a 'scrap' piece first as you say it can vary from wood to wood. I used a 'Writing Pen Tip', here's a photo, it's resting on my index finger. Hope this helps, I can also send you a 'link' to the website that has helped me tremendously if you wish.

Thank you, I appreciate that. I have a Peter Childs Pyrography Machine so I burnt my signature on. Well actually, I put my name in Inkscape, found a nice font called Dayland and traced it, then burnt it.

I have finished this piece now, it's all dyed, oiled and glued up ready to go. However, because it was 'ordered' I decided that it would be nice to have my signature on it. I've never signed a piece before but thought it would be a nice touch. I quite like the look of it, but having actually done it I'm thinking it may be seen as a little 'pretentious' what with me being a relative 'newbie' to this scrollsawing lark. May I ask, do you 'sign' your pieces or am I way out of order. ?

This is fine, I use it all the time and have no problem with it. Most Danish Oils are much of a muchness and I have found very little difference between the different Brands. It takes a while for the smell to go away totally, but I'm very 'sensitive' to that so my pieces stay in the garage for a couple of weeks after I've finished them.
