  1. Dennis I've not purchased from these guys yet but plan on it soon. They aren't far from you and offer free shipping. https://www.woodworkerssource.com/
  2. Well done!
  3. Simply brilliant! Well done Don.
  4. Very nice Dave. Some day I'll attempt to learn inlay. Very nice looking frame also.
  5. I didn't know you could do that. My little copy place said they couldn't copy in red unless it was done in red originally. Will have to try Office Depot next time. Red would of been much easier on the eyes on this cut.
  6. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind words.
  7. Doesn't help the original post but this is what I just finished and installed on mine. Might give you ideas. All made from scrap wood. Taped the bottom and top piece together and then drilled using a 5/8ths forstner bit. Notice the separation between the holes on the right/left. On the right side I pull tubes over that I am using on the current cut. Every size/type has a "used" tube behind it. I've found there are certain cuts I don't want to use a new aggressive blade on so I reach for a used blade. Seems to work for me. Seems you could make a smaller version of mine and attach it directly to the side of the table. Either permanently or possibly magnetic to transport between saws.
  8. This is an AlexFoxUa pattern from Etsy. My first paid pattern. Really enjoyed the quality of the pattern. Congrats Alex on your mention and pic in the spring edition of Scroll saw magazine. You deserve it. I enjoy the realistic patterns you offer everyone. The frame on mine is Mahogany. Finished with 1 coat of tung oil and 3 coats of deft rattle can lacquer. Splines were 1/4" scrap of Baltic birch. The cut was 1/4" Baltic Birch finished with 2 coats of clear shellac/denatured alcohol mix then 2 coats of deft rattle can lacquer. Backer board was 1/4" Baltic Birch. Started out flat....didn't like it then went satin black. Blades used were Flying Dutchman 2/0 Spiral 35 TPI for around the mouth and the rest was Olsen Skip Tooth 2/0 28 tooth per inch. This is a gift for my sister who rescues and preps cats for adoption.
  9. Ray, I like to use these bits in my drill press. You dont have to worry about these slipping. Now for me personally, I never use the stops on the drill press. If you've ever used the stops and had them come loose during a job and ruining a piece of work, you'll probably never use them again either. I keep mine clinched tight and out of the way. I use my table to control the depth. The bit itself is only one inch and overall its 2-1/4" long. I know this says for metal but the holes are cleaner and virtually no run out or wobble with these bits. To edit...disregard Ray, read your post a few times and still misinterpreted it.
  10. Awesome job!
  11. Very nice Dave!
  12. Well I made this for the shop walls. This is the first time I've ever used Doug fir for anything other than framing. I had some 4x4's 2 feet long left over from building my shop cabinets a few years ago. Glad I saved them and the frame turned out pretty good I think. I used redwood for the splines. About half way through this I had an "Ah ha!" moment where it clicked for me. Turns and pivots became easier and less stressful, blade choice improved and finally did a project without breaking it. A lot of you have cut this already but I enjoyed it. Oh and if you look carefully you'll still see some dust on the saw. I remembered to take the pic before I cleaned up. Ha ha.
  13. Well done. Looks like a real nail biter.
  14. Very nice Charlie. Wouldn't of noticed had you not mentioned it.
  15. After reading about all the Dewalt lift arm issues, I must be the odd man out. I've never lifted the arm to remove/move a blade. I've always just removed the blade top and bottom. I feed through the top, tighten the bottom thumb screw first then the top. I never look under the table. Am I the only Dewalt user that does This? Seems so much easier than wrestling with a lift arm. Becomes second nature in no time and pretty fast at it.
  16. It must be a local thing. I just bought mineral spirits at home depot today. Sacramento. Here is a short video on a wood finishing method i really like but i substitute tung oil for Blo in the video. You really can't screw this up.
  17. I would love to be there to see the look on their face when you ask for a used toothbrush.
  18. My shop is 20x22. I installed a through wall a/c/heater. 13,000btu. I have no problems keeping it cool in the hot summers but I don't have the humidity you do. Winter's the same. To add....shop is also insulated with insulated garage door. Pic is from last summer. Notice the indoor/outdoor temps with humidity. My next recommendation would be a mini split but more expensive.
  19. Im not an experienced scroller but I started with spiral blades thinking it would be easier to learn. I really enjoy neptun's patterns and in my opinion are perfect for spiral blades. Now I have to learn regular blades and I'm not sure if one is harder than the other. My observations on spiral blades are....and I use the Dewalt 788...... 1. Hard to clamp up blades at times. 2. Doesn't cut well even with a new blade on the back side. Side to side is limited. Spinning the project and cutting from the front works best for me. Blade pops out occasionally when cutting to the side and frequently when cutting from the back. So i stick to the front as much as possible. 3. Corners are rounded and not as clean. Very hard for me to cut a straight line of any distance with a spiral. 4. Most definitely chew up everything they touch. The on/off switch was my friend.
  20. I'm interested in it myself and had purchased the book called "Big book of Gizmos & gadgets." That's as far as I've gone so far though. I need to get much better before I can tackle some of these projects.
  21. Thanks for all the nice comments.
  22. Fantastic. Looks amazing. I only hope i can make it look half as nice as you have. Thanks so much for the pattern. Hope to be starting on it this weekend.
  23. Finally finished up a couple pics both by neptun. The frames I made are from redwood with maple splines. 3 coats of tung oil/satin poly/mineral spirits equally mixed on the frame. 2 coats of thinned shellac on the pic. Still a rookie at both but getting better. Don't look to close!
  24. Very nice. I like neptun's patterns. Curious if you used a spiral blade on the raccoons? Will probably be doing that one soon.
