  1. I sandwich it between 2 pieces of 1/8'' birch plywood, wrap it all up in blue painters tape.
  2. Maybe use the crackle paint technique with an antique white as the top coat. I also use the old Singer sewing machine bases to make tables. I have made 2 and have 3 more waiting in the garage to do something with.
  3. I have a branding iron that I ordered thru Rockler's website. You have to heat it up with a torch. They also have an electric one that probably works better, but it was more money. With the one I have there is a lot of trial an error. You have to heat it up just right. https://www.rockler.com/search/go?ts=custom&w=branding
  4. Thanks Kevin, much appreciated! But I've seen some stuff here that I wouldn't even attempt.
  5. LOL, I'm trying to keep my mind out of the gutter here. Maybe that's why she is his EX? Sorry, everyone back to cutting!
  6. I tried it again yesterday and it worked. Not as much "crackle" as yours, but it worked. My last attempt I used an oval design. I like yours better and borrowed the shape of your plaque.
  7. Thank you sir! Started on a Pittsburgh Steelers flag for a co-worker today. I know that flags can be a touchy subject for some, I have one tattooed on my arm. I'm not a fan of the Steelers, but I do love the $100 that he is giving me to make it!
  8. Very nice! But I only counted 94 holes! LOL That is a big factor on what I decide to cut out,, how many holes do I need to drill.
  9. JT, after you apply your Danish Oil, do you spray any kind of protective coat on your projects? The Danish Oil doesn't protect much does it? Ray, not trying to hijack your thread. Thanks, Barry
  10. Very nice! I tried this a little while back and my paint did not crack. I didn't have any real dark stain so i used black spray paint. I put my glue on top after the paint dried. Waited about 5-10 minutes and put the top coat of paint on, satin latex. An hour later, no cracks. Shop temp was around 60° if that makes any difference. Any pointers that you can throw my way? Thanks, Barry
  11. Thanks everyone. Headed out now to get some wood to make some sports themed flags that I have orders for.
  12. So being new to SSV, I haven't had much chance to post my "brags" in the Bragging Rights folder. I thought that I would post a few pics of some of my past scroll saw projects. Most of them, if not all them are Steve Good designs. Made this recently for a friend's Dad. Been a Cubs fan since I can remember, I had no choice but to make this. Made this rose for my Wife Navy Plaque for my buddy's birthday
  13. Thanks Rohn! I tried to hang it in the house, the wife shut me down and said not until Christmas is over. She has all of her Christmas decorations up.
  14. Thanks Dan! I have a few orders for some football flags. Gotta order some team logo templates now.
  15. Nice baskets JT. I made a few different designs several years back. Made some that were flat so that they could be hung on a wall. Made some heart shaped ones too. Yours are very nice with the angle cuts on the ends of the blocks. But all glue? No pin nails?
  16. All finished now. Went with the spray can as a finish. I know that there really was't a need to burn the back side of it, but put a flame in my hand and I can't control myself!
  17. Thank you,, I wouldn't say that I have any artistic abilities either. LOL That reminds me of a question always asked in a PBS show that I have seen a few times. It's called A Craftsman's Legacy. The host always ask the person that he is working with on each episode if they thought they were more of a Craftsman or an Artist. Myself, I'm just a "tinkerer".

    Tom from VA

Welcome Tom! I have only been a member myself for a little over a month. This is an awesome forum! You will enjoy it. Lots of reading for you to catch up on.
  19. Thanks! But I still have time to screw it up! LOL
  20. The red and blue both are water based stain. Initially I didn't burn the Union area but it was too clean and bright compared to the stripes. So I went back and lightly burned it after the stars were on. I burned the red stripes before the stain.
  21. My first attempt at making a flag. I still need to put a finish on it. Not sure if I will use something from a can or maybe go a little thicker with a 2 part epoxy. I was gonna use a dremel and carve out the stars but went the easy way with some spray paint. I will use the dremel on my next one...maybe. Finish pics are in a post below.
  22. Very nice! I have a couple of patterns similar to yours I will try one day. Hopefully they are at least half as good as yours.
  23. Thank you Dick. I am really liking what I have seen so far on the site. Easy to use, lots of good people.
  24. Howdy Jason, I'm new here myself. I'm finding out that everyone here is good people. I started out on that Porter Cable saw from Lowes with no complaints. Just got a new Dewalt a few days ago,, gonna try to convince the wife to let me open it up before Christmas.
  25. Thanks everyone! Much appreciated. I'm working on an American Flag right now but this thing called work keeps getting in the way! No scroll saw used on the flag,, I'll post a pic when it is complete. This is the first one I have made and it's turning out pretty nice so far.
