  1. Thanks Marg! I like the way it came out...my wife did too, she snatched it right away! Now to experiment with some different colored hardwoods.
  2. I ordered 1/8" in Walnut, Aspen, Alder, and Beech today from Ocooch. Should have it by Fri. The pieces are small so I only need a 4" wide board, trying some wood I don't normally use. If it comes out good I might even try some more exotic wood. Ron, you're the master of beautiful little boxes...what wood combination, from what I ordered, would you try first? I'm thinking ( very dangerous ) maybe Watco Natural dip for a finish, what do you think? What finish have you been using on your boxes? My wife grabbed that one up before I had a chance to pot some kind of finish on it! LOL
  3. I did this jewelry box pattern by Alex Fox over the weekend. Man...that's a lot of pieces for a little box! It's 1/8" BB ply done with a #1 Pegas blade. I think it would sell at the craft shows this winter, so I might get some 1/8" Walnut and Hard Maple from Ocooch and try it with hardwood.
  4. Absolutely beautiful Dave!!
  5. Yes he does ! There's a bunch of them I want to cut...eventually .
  6. Didn't stack this one, but I think I'll do a few to sell this winter.
  7. Awesome box!
  8. Thanks Denny! I got a Logan mat cutter a week or so ago. It really makes it nice to enlarge the window or cut a mat from scratch.
  9. Cut and framed a H. Botas Owl pattern that I've been wanting to do. It's a single 1/8" BB ply done with a Pegas #3 finished with spray Shellac. I think it would sell...may have to do more of them.
  10. Started on the name...going to be a slow go! I dropped down to a #68 drill bit and a Pegas#1 MG blade. Tried a 2/0 spiral...for about 1/8" and took it out! I'm cutting about 3/16" ( they say it's 1/4" but I don't think so) Hard Maple veneer ply from Ocooch. I'll work on it some more today. Wanted to get the Owl framed!
  11. I'm working on a Mick Jagger pattern by Steve Good. I'll work on the name tomorrow. It looks like it is raised and the cut outs are meant to look like shadows. I'll have to see if I have a drill bit small enough to make the blade holes! A spiral would be a one pass in that narrow spot...but I would wreck it for sure. I'm thinking maybe a Pegas #1, don't think a #3 would turn around. Has anyone done this one? If so what did you use on the name? I like it so far! Well, Here's the finished product.
  12. Obi-Wan made a mistake? Oh Nooooooo!
  13. Just a thought... I guess I could use a light brush or maybe a model brush to keep from breaking small delicate pieces. I generally use a rag or rolled up paper towel, so I can throw it away, and was concerned I might break something. I don't use a lot of stain...just didn't want everything I do to end up "Baltic Birch White" lol. Any more I just hit it with a can of Shellac or Lacquer, quick and easy. I do some Watco dipping also. I saw on here some time ago a home brew of 50/50 BLO and something else...what? Does it add any color to BB ply? I did try an experiment today...I stained a small piece of BB ply with MInwax Early American, let it dry a couple of hours, slapped the film and pattern (Steve Good's glue bottle holder) on and cut the top. When I pealed off the film and pattern...it looked good!
  14. You and me both! I've got a dozen projects laying around in one state or another.
  15. Absolutely awesome work Ron !!!
  16. I use some of these Minwax PolyShades stain/Poly sprays. Quick, easy, handy to just grab a can...off my new rack...give the project a shot and go. But I ran out of Classic Oak today... the local lumber yard, worthless, doesn't know what I'm talking about. Went on line and I don't see that color on Amazon, Lowes (30 miles away). And it's also expensive when I find it! So...I'm thinking of trying an Air Brush setup. Who uses them? How do you kike it? What finishes DON"T work in one? Are they easy to clean up? Are there any particular brands/types to look at...or stay away from? Is it better (easier) to get a rig with an air compressor...or do they have a regulator to just plug onto my big one?
  17. It's not really "paper" John. Don't know if you've used it down under, but it's a clear plastic like laminate. Not sure if it would cut on a hack saw blade like a roll of paper does...but it's a good idea that I may try !
  18. Thanks! The spray foam has made a world of difference. The shop is 18'W x 30'L x 9' and I can keep it 10* - 12* cooler than outside on a 90*+ day. With a big fan on low pointed towards the ceiling to circulate air it is very comfortable. The window is only large enough for a 6,000 btu AC,
  19. I made a dispenser for my peal and stick shelf paper today. Steve Good pattern, 1/2" Blond plywood, Oak fixtures, and a poplar dowel rod. Finished the Oak with spray semi-gloss Lacquer. I think this will be real handy...it looks like a "Good" idea...I know, bad joke.
  20. The basic plan for the finishing can rack came from Jay's Custom Creations. I used 1x6 instead of plywood and modified a few other little things. I liked that plan because it was simple and easy, I wasn't going to make cradles or drill holes for each can...it's just for my workshop. Then I looked around...there's really no place to hang it! So I sat down...looked around the shop...had a beer ( important in the creative process ) and thought I would replace the old plastic shelf in that spot! I'm waiting on Poplar to make puzzle animals for winter stock...so I'll do another project. Steve Good , I think, had a plan for a dispenser for peel and stick shelf paper that I use a lot. I think I've got all the material for that. Then maybe a holder for my blade storage tubes...that keep rolling off the table. Speaking of waiting for Poplar, I ordered some wood from Ocooch on Tue. 7/7...it arrived Fri. 7/10. I ordered a couple of boards from Heritage Wood, also on 7/7...today 7/21, I called to see what was going on and had to leave a message. A guy called me back and said the shop told him it would probably go out this week. Is this the normal time frame for them? I put another order in to Ocooch today.
  21. If there was any real foam in there 1 would be fine...
  22. Well, it got to where I couldn't find stuff I knew I had...sound familiar? So I got some wood and took a couple of days (too hot to work long with the big door open) and built a new set of shelves and a finish rack. After I got finished today and cleaned the shop putting everything in it's, new home, I thought I would show a couple of photos of the shop. Look quick...it doesn't stay this clean for long
  23. I had a foot on my WEN the first few weeks...hated it. So when I got my new King it came off when I first set it up...don't know where it is, and don't care Yea, when a piece of 1x poplar starts hopping and smacking the table, some times with a finger in it, it does get your attention!! since you mentioned it, I'll ask. What causes that to happen? I never really thought about it, just figured I turned the piece too tight, or blade getting dull, mostly the fact my finger got smacked...LOL. Mostly happens when I'm thinking about other things while cutting
  24. Cool!! That means I can make 2 or 3 of these crosses at a time! They take me quite a while to do, and I got several requests for them at the craft shows last winter. I use 1/4" stock. I sold 5 of them in about 2 months, and could have sold more if I had them, and COVID hadn't shut down the last 4 shows I was booked at.
  25. I forgot all about that. It came off at unboxing...not sure where it is!
