  1. Very nice!! Great pattern, and unique beautiful wood.
  2. Awesome cut of a classic Woodie!!
  3. Thanks Roly! I wish I could take credit for the design...but Alex Fox in the Ukraine designed the pattern. I cut it as he did, then adapted it to Walnut and Beech. I really like it with hardwoods and will do more combinations in the future.
  4. That's awesome Brenda! Who did the pattern?
  5. Thank you for making a cool little pattern! I like this little box, I think it looks good in hardwood! I might go lighter yet on the fretwork next time, maybe Aspen...?
  6. Thanks Kevin! Price is not too bad, Cherry Plywood is $7.75 for a 1/4" x 12" x 24" at Ocooch.
  7. I did another of Alex Fox's Jewelry Box pattern. This time in 1/8" Walnut and Beech, first was 1/8" BB ply. I'll show both pictures
  8. I sprayed this one. May try wipe on next time. I'll post in Bragging Rights
  9. I don't think I put this up yet. A Steve Good pattern done in Cherry ply
  10. Awesome cut!
  11. What's the first cutting?
  12. OK...I'll try it. I didn't think the spray can would get in all the little nooks and crannies. I tried it once on a small piece and got too much in one spot...too little in the edges. I try to spray from a foot away, and pass across it. Any other tips/tricks? I've never been a "spray can artist" LOL
  13. I just finished cutting one of Alex Fox's boxes in Walnut and Beech. I'm thinking a dip in Watco Natural. All solid pieces are Walnut. All fretwork pieces are Beech. Only the two "feet" are glued at this time. If I dip the pieces separate, they won't want to fit when dry as they are tight anyway. What about dipping outer box...inner box...top fretwork. When der put the inner into the outer, drop in the hinge pin, glue the top fretwork on? Any better ideas? I haven't finished anything quite like this before. The first one was grabbed by my wife and remains unfinished BB ply.
  14. I did this for a lady that's redoing her kitchen in a Lighthouse/beach theme. It's a Steve Good pattern done in Cherry ply w/#1 Pegas blade, thin dipped in Watco Natural. I might make some more for craft shows this season.
  15. Birchbark, I like them both. But she texted me a photo of what she wanted...so I went with it. Might do the others sometime for kicks. I was also thinking of turning one shutter into a portrait with light beams going both ways, but haven't tried to do it yet.
  16. I'm doing a trial run with a scrap of 1/4" ply. Some on the scroll saw...some with a jigsaw. It will be much easier, I think, in 1/2" or 3/4" !
  17. I'm pretty sure she's talking about decretive type shutters on the inside of the kitchen window...good point, I'll make sure. If I'm right about being just a decoration she won't want a backer, just the fretwork. So I could go with 3/8 - 1/2 instead if the 1 x I first thought. I made a full size mock up on a scrap of Luan I had laying around. Today I'll see if I can cut it on my King 16. NC Scroller said he put his blade in backwards and pulled an area when doing an oversized piece. I might have to try that. I might also try a jigsaw on it...it would be easier in the open, if I can do the wave at the bottom well. Thanks for the ideas Jim! I'm wearing my Fat Ass Winery T-shirt today...wish we were in Fredericksburg!
  18. Good idea...I never thought of putting the blade in backwards. But I've never tried this before either...LOL. Thanks!
  19. I've been asked by a customer to make some decretive shutters for her kitchen remodel. She wants a lighthouse theme with other nautical and sea side items. I did this wall hanger, see photo, from a Steve Good pattern in Cherry ply with a Watco Natural dip. She also mentioned being interested in a ship's wheel wall clock. Now for the hard part. The shutters need to be 26" H x 14-14 1/2" W. I found an image on line that she really loves. I managed to get it into Inkscape, converted to a useable format, duplicated, flipped, saved. Then I went to Rapid Resizer and sized it, one side, and it printed on 6 pages plain paper for a trial. Has anyone cut something this size...on a 16" saw??? It doesn't look too hard as most of middle is empty and not much curved needing to turn the piece. I may see if I have a scrap piece of old plywood for a trial run. Also , if it works, I'm thinking of two 1 x 8 glued to make a 15" actual width to cut from. What do you think...1 x or a 1/2" thick? Never tried multi sheet patters or something this size before, so I'm hoping for help from you guys and gals! Thanks!!
  20. I forgot yesterday, so I went out this morning, between rain storms. I used a frig magnet that look like polished rock, they are strong...and it stuck tight. So I think I'll order a sheet magnet from Amazon. Thanks for the idea Jim!
  21. Looks great Jim! Think I'll check mine with a magnet, should work,
  22. Alex makes some unique patterns. He did this for his mother's birthday, and posted it last week. I thought it was cool and got the pattern from him.
  23. Awesome job Brenda! I am a Veteran also, and believe the same.
  24. Beautiful cutting!! I like most any pattern by Charles Hand.
  25. Really great looking!
