  1. This is the first project that I decided what I wanted on it...designed the pattern from scratch and printed it out, cut and finished it. I used 1/2" Oak and finished with a couple of coats of Helmsman Spar Urethane. Now I need HELP!!! My wife put pictures on Facebook and by time we finished dinner 2 or 3 friends wanted her to get a price for me making signs! OMG...what do I do now?? I need help pricing these fast...please! From what they sent her already the signs will be similar to this one...a name or two, maybe a word and a name, etc. Randi, who lives in OR, wanted to see if I could also put a pine tree on hers. She said her mother, who is in her 90s, may want several to give as Christmas gifts! Or should I find out what each one wants first, then do a rough workup to make sure it will fly, then show them a workup and the price? I don't know as I didn't think it would come this quick! Thanks everyone!!
  2. Thanks! I didn't even notice I was "promoted" to Obsessed Scroller...lol. Yes it is fast becoming an obsession
  3. I saw that one and was thinking of cutting it. But at the rate I'm going it would be New Years before I got to it in the pile...lol I may save it for next year...you did a great job, I like the way it came out!
  4. I think I have a small bottle of butcher block oil...that would be the same...right? I was going to bake some cutting boards last fall...but figured out you really need a planer to make them...I don't have one...yet. Scrolling is more fun.
  5. Looks nice, smooth work.
  6. I was thinking maybe a stain...or butcher block oil...? I'll try a Steve Good pattern first. He has one with roses and an initial in the center. I always skip the first 2-3 pages straight to the pattern and print. I went back and looked...he is using 3/8 stick on rubber feet on those. But I can't tell about the finish.
  7. I'll have to check the actual thickness of my stock. I'm thinking it's actual 1/2"...if not I've got some 3/4". I've got some stick on rubber door bumpers that would make good feet. Or sink in a wood button like you use to fill a screw hole.
  8. Thanks! That should keep me busy for a while.
  9. I want to make some trivets...or at least one...more if it goes well If I make my own pattern I would think it needs to have lots of slots for cooling. I'll probably do the first one easy and use someone's pattern before trying to make my own. Is 1/2" hardwood, Oak, Poplar, Walnut, etc. best...or do you need to use 1x ? Do you put feet on it? What's the best finish for setting hot stuff on it and still look good over time? Any other words of wisdom for my first trivet, please.
  10. Thank you Dick, you’re too kind. I’m just trying to play catch up to everyone here. And having a blast doing it! I’ve got to slow down and “clean the leftovers out of the refrigerator “ so to speak. I looked around and saw 3 or 4...maybe 5 projects in various stages of completion...lol. And got a bunch of stuff I want to try.
  11. Baltic birch? What stain did you use...Walnut, Mahogany?
  12. Thanks for all the kind comments! Being the first of this type I've done, I really didn't know how it would turn out. It all came together when at the end I laid it on a piece of brown felt. The whole thing came to life! I'm sure I'll be doing more of these in the future.
  13. Nice portraits...lol Before and after Keto...?
  14. First project of this type for me. Pattern says "grampa2010" but I don't remember where I found it...lol. I think I'm becoming a pattern whore...I've got tons of patterns both saved and printed, some for now and some for more experienced days. Anyway...I did this on 1/8" BB ply with a light spray lacquer finish. I intend to mat and frame it.
  15. Looks great! I would like to do some of those...sometime. What wood did you use. Where did you get the patterns?
  16. I changed it up a bit with this state. Texas was done with 1/4" BB plywood. For Nebraska I used 1/2" Oak and clear lacquer finish. I like the hardwood version better. May have to do another Texas in Oak this time. NE is also a Russ Wood Designs pattern.
  17. Way cool Dave!! That's absolutely beautiful!
  18. Brenda...I can almost see your face when reading that... Just to be clear...These are the Crappie Jigs I tie. This is a Crappie (very good eating). Here is one of the Louisiana Bayou, one of my favorite places to fish. And here is one of the thousands of alligator in the bayou...he also likes crappie! Now you're ready to come to the US and go fishing!
  19. Cool! Looks great...and I like the idea!
  20. Top notch as always Kevin. How tough was the heart box? I have that one saved for later on. May have to do several jewelry boxes for the four granddaughters!
  21. That's the plan. That is one of the reasons I got the King 16" instead of a 21". It and the little benchtop drill press will ride in the front cargo hold. I normally carry a Barker 42gal. blue tote there, but we will be in full hookups the whole 4+ months so it won't be needed. I'll pack foot pedal, sanders, misc. tools and supplies in a tote or two that will ride in the main cargo hold. Also my stand breaks down to legs and a couple of braces to go in one of the cargo holds. I'll take some BB ply. and put in an order as soon as I get there, and pick up hardwood (or order) locally. I plan to do a lot of cutting and selling (hopefully) as we'll be in the Rio Grande Valley for almost 4 months. While it's cold and snowy I'll be sitting outside in the sun, in shorts and a T shirt, cutting patterns I'll take my laptop and files, but may look for a smaller printer to print and copy patterns. Yes folks...it's the Ozark Sawdust Road Show! Scroller on the road.....
  22. The kid's house was in Oak Harbor on the south side of the golf course. We camped at Deception Pass State Park. They had a nice lake in the park full of trout...I fished almost every morning!
  23. WOW Alex! That's a really nice project...6 layers, holy cow!!!
  24. Thanks! I just got my first drill press, haven't even used it yet. I didn't even think of that! And would a sanding drum fit and work for these type of things?
  25. You should have some great fishing there on the Columbia River! We were out there a couple of yrs ago. Spent about 3 1/2 months in the 5th wheel. One of my son-in-laws is a Naval officer and was stationed at Whidbey Island WA north of Seattle. After their place we went to spend some time with some close friends of ours in Medford OR. Then on to a week at a RV park in the Redwood Forest. Followed by a week over 4th of July at Napa, we use to manage a retirement property there so we knew the best wineries! It's all beautiful out there!
