  1. What type of blades does it use? Pin or pinless? 5"?
  2. Mine would need to be vibration free and support top feeding.
  3. Very nice Frank! Clean cutting for sure, but the coloration and presentation make it stand out! I have tried spiral blades but have not had any success with them. Best wishes for your knee surgery. Does the pink panther have any connection to knees? Thurman
  4. Regarding the topic of breaking blades with a Pegas/Excalibur: perhaps you had read the recent discussion about 2/0 blades. I have a Pegas and am quite happy with it. All blades other than the 2/0 blades tension up very well. And the 2/0 blades work very well if I put a little bit of slack in before clamping them. There are many other factors to consider in selecting a new saw other than tensioning and concerns with 2/0 blades. The community here a SSV will be happy to offer advice on this topic.
  5. I have a Pegas saw and also find that 2/0 blades sometimes break when I tension them. So, as you mention, I introduce a little bit of slack when installing the blade. Works just fine for me. I prefer to not adjust the inherent tension of the machine as it is good for all the other blades.
  6. Very nice and very well done Frank. My lady and I will celebrate our 55th anniversary in 2 months. This inspires me to do one for her.
  7. so where is here? not far from Houston Texas
  8. Outdoor activities are year-round here, golf, lawn work, etc. Winters, when we have them last a week or so. But the summers are as brutal as the winters are short. I have a window mounted AC in the shop for the hot season. I am 78 and hire out most of the lawn work. And I am lazy and am behind on the parts I failed to hire out. With your words as inspiration, maybe I will get around to some of that soon.
  9. Wen now has 2 scroll saw models. The model #3921 is similar to the Shop Fox model Ben asked about. The other, model #LL2156 WEN LL2156 21-Inch 1.6-Amp Variable Speed Parallel Arm Scroll Saw with Extra-Large Dual-Bevel Steel Table - - Amazon.com is similar to the DeWalt 788 and is a more capable scroll saw. I think this is the one you are recommending to Ben.
  10. Very nice work Kris, and very inspirational. Did you make these patterns yourself? Have you done others of the life of Jesus? Have you done the Stations of the Cross?
  11. Very attractive and very creative too, showing your artistic side!
  12. I usually use full sheet labels on top of clear shelf liner (for larger patterns) or blue painters tape (for smaller patterns). This usually works well and is easy enough to remove after the cutting is done. But I am having a problem with the pattern lifting on a project I am currently working. I think I know what I did wrong. I sanded the wood before applying the pattern but I think I neglected to use a tack cloth to remove the sawdust before applying the shelf liner. Lesson learned.
  13. You must feel truly blessed to have a government that cares. We can get MS over the counter here. We just can't seem to keep 3M spray adhesives on the shelves.
  14. Beautiful job Bernd! Bubinga was an excellent choice for this. In the first picture, the end grain of the top seems to match the end grain of the piece below it. Where did you get the pattern for this?
  15. I bought a Wen 6510t about 2 weeks ago. My research showed that it is identical to several other spindle sanders on the market save for color and brand name. I find it quite aggressive in its sanding, too much so for doing fine work on inside curves, etc. I will look for additional drums with less aggressive sandpaper. Other than that I am pleased with it.
  16. Make your own French cleat, make it any dimension you want. I did this one using a 1/4" scrap with a 1/8" spacer behind it for a thin board (1/4") project and attached it with yellow glue. I had tried to attach a metal French cleat but was concerned about the nails poking through and damaging the front of the work.
  17. I tried staining a plywood project once. I got some stain on the edge and it came in strong via the pores. It mad for an uneven finish, not good. I cannot post a picture as that one went straight into the trash.
  18. So, in what way is an airbrush better than a rattle can? Advantages of a rattle can include: wide availability of paints, finishes, etc easy clean-up (none required) when it breaks, throw it away and buy a replacement (inexpensive) ... Advantages of an airbrush include: (looking for input here)
  19. I came across mention of a scam website - dwltset - purportedly selling DeWalt tools at a ridiculous discount. There was mention of them charging your credit card and then spoofing a delivery # and spoofing an actual delivery (neither of which are real) to put off investigation by the credit card company. Stay away from this site.
  20. I just finished this and hung it on the wall. Happy to say my wife likes it (or at least says she does). Done in 1/4" plywood with Pegas MGT3 blades. It is in 2 levels, the black back piece and the white front piece. The hooks are metal.
  21. Very nice! That kind of result takes a lot of work and care. What type of wood did you use?
  22. There is an app on my iPhone to measure inclination. It is in my "Utilities" app, "Measure" and "Level". If you have an iPhone you might try that and let us know if it works for this purpose.
  23. I suggest you read the article in The Wood Database about color change in exotic woods. Preventing Color Changes in Exotic Woods | The Wood Database (wood-database.com). There is a discussion about how to slow/minimize the fading of the colors near the end of the article.
  24. Beautiful wood, can't wait to see what you scroll with it.
  25. That looks like a great drill press. I have a different drill press and am now thinking about getting a dremel router base or maybe a StewMac. The problem is getting to those holes in the middle of a larger piece. I note the discrepancy between a scroll saw that will handle work pieces up to 21" and a drill press that will only handle pieces up to 9". Ask yourself if the drill press will be able to drill the holes in the middle of the largest fretwork piece you will ever want to do.
