  1. Nice work. I know he will love and appreciate it.
  2. The offset is awesome.
  3. I finished this one today. I forget who made that pattern They need to be recognized because it is such a great pattern. A lot of the branches are super fragile. FrankEV made the pattern. It was a fun one to cut.
  4. That is super cool.
  5. That is a great project!!
  6. Toys are so rewarding to make. Especially when you see kids play with them.
  7. The rope around the edge is a great touch.
  8. Now that is pretty darn nifty!
  9. I love the live edges.
  10. Now that took a lot of work!
  11. This box started out as a test on my re-worked jig. I had no intention on actually finishing it until I saw it. I was going to build a complete box with no glue, nails or screws. I doweled the corners together, I had a bottom that wedged into the sides. Then I saw it!!! If I put an alder top on it, it would be a nice looking box. So out came the glue. Probably the prettiest box I have made. It all started off as a test box from scrap wood.
  12. Roly, I made a jig for my tablesaw. My brother does some hand cutting of dovetails but I definitely am not!
  13. I sanded it the top shape on my belt sander, and yes, i used a band saw to cut the top off once I was finished. I don't know if you noticed the dowels in the corners. The finger joints have no glue, they are doweled together.
  14. Here are my latest boxes. One is made from Alder and maple. My beautiful Bride has claimed this box. The other is made from Oak and Poplar. The top has an added Alder to it.
  15. Does this give you a better idea?
  16. Here is a thread that I started.
  17. Here is a more technical version, adding some shiny tools that I have acquired.
  18. Here are the photos of how I used to do it before my brother helped me be technical.
  19. Gonzo I was thinking on the best way to explain it. If you have a 3/4 thick piece of wood and the rings on the bowl pattern are 1/4 thick. you would make 2 lines on the side of your 3/4 board 1/4 inch apart. Set your saws agle to go diagonal between those two lines. Then you cut a small piece of and use a drill press to drill at the same angle or use the pieces that you cut off as a guide to hand drill your angle. Does that make any sense? If not I will photo the process and post it on here.
  20. Gonzo The angle depends on the thickness of the wood And the thickness of the ring. I use a digital caliper and construction calculator to figure out the angle for each individual bowl. I then drill a hole at the same angle using a 3/64 drill bit. If you don’t have those things then there are some videos on YouTube I think.
  21. Thanks a million. That was a fun project. It all started with one random kidney shaped cut. will definetly be a one of a kind.
  22. Thanks Marg, I am the master of not being able to sit still so I go to the shop.
  23. The butcher block one is 1" (actual) thick Maple butcher block countertop. If you can imagine several hundred 1 inch pieces being glued up together sideways. I took the piece that I had (4"x18"), planed it down to 3/4 cut 4" sections glued them together opposing and then cut away.
  24. Those look like some fun projects.
