A few months ago, Travis asked people to start and share their Facebook pages. I was wondering how it is working out for most of you. I do no other sales promotions for my work, except for an occasional local classified page, also through Facebook. My goal is to keep enough money in the box to buy my material, blades and any tools, I might need in order to have my hobby support itself. The money I set as my goal is only $120 a month. I am not interested in being burdened with trying to cut enough pieces to do a craft show, as most of you already know about me, and then HOPE  to sell enough of my things to make it worth while. For me, if I am obligated to make a lot of pieces because I have to have enough for a show, then my fun hobby to me, becomes like a job, and I am retired and do NOT want a job any longer. November brought in over $500 and has made finishing my Christmas present projects a chore, too much extra work. I did start turning down requests until after Christmas so I can get the family things done on time.

So my question is........How well are your Facebook pages going for you?

I have a Facebook account and a page for the scrolling. I have had 1 order from it. They also want you to "boost" your page and spend money doing so. It also takes time to keep updated and that is something I just don't have enough of. I don't understand the full spectrum of the stuff they offer with it and the tools in the back ground for stats etc. Maybe when I get more time to play with it and learn. But I am happy with the results I understand, and people have come to shows we do because they read it up there.

I just recently started a page for my scroll sawing. I'm finding it's a good way to keep my previous/current customers updated on what I'm doing, and I use it to gently nudge people to consider ordering Christmas ornaments. I haven't spent a penny on it, and the time I spend on it is fairly minimal, but I was already a regular facebook user.

I was just wondering how things were going for anyone using Facebook. I started mine by asking people to 'like' my page and also to 'share' it and then after a month I drew a name from all the 'likes' and gave them a choice of anything i had on it, for free. A contest kind of thing, to get people seeing my page. Now whenever I add a post to it, the people that 'liked' my page see the new post. this is to keep me on people's minds throughout the year. I am interested in only making, give away gifts to friends and family and maybe a local who has lost a mate or someone I feel is a little special to everyone, like the local hear dresser, a doctor I like, a mail carrier and a special pastor in town. I support my hobby through my Facebook account and my monthly goal is $125 for supplies. I do not have a regular internet page other than this. I do not do craft shows. This has worked well for me as I always surpass my goal. This November, I did over $500 from requests, So I was just curious about the rest of you .

I get new "likes" on my Facebook page almost every day, up to almost 600. But I do not know who any of them are, and they are from all over the world. And no, they don't want to buy anything. I think people just like to "like" things... I have a link to my website on there too. Nothing.

take a look at my post above this post and you will understand why I asked this question.

Don't have a "for sale" Facebook page. I think wanting to make $120 a month is a big goal. That's far more than I want to do to support my crafts. Glad you are having to turn people down.

What I am trying to say is, I am NOT after making money, but wood, postage, postage supplies, blades, glue, finish, sand paper and an occasional new woodworking tool, costs money and I really do not want to dip into our household finances, just for me to have fun. So $120 is not a lot of money to keep me and my hobby self sufficient

Well I have had my Facebook page for about 6 months now and to be honest I am thinking of closing it down.  I can't get past 43 Likes and I have had no sales apart from one Christmas ornament and that was from a friend who had already had 3 ornaments from me last Christmas.  I am very disheartened.  I have only just remembered about Travis's post after reading it again, not sure how that is going to help me anyway.

I finally broke down and joined Facebook.  Haven't done anything with it as am completely lost.  One of my creations was picked as Editor's Choice on another site and they gave a link to put it on my page but was really lost.  Don't think I am ready for all this yet.

I have had a FB business page for my scrolling for most of the year (woodngiftswis).  It keeps my friends up to date with what I am doing.  In the last month, I joined a FB local "buy sell" group and listed some things.  Got one inquiry for a custom job.  After a lot of back and forth email, they dropped out of sight.  There is something about seeing our work in person that makes it more impressive.  Pictures do not do them justice.  That is why I am cautious to try Etsy.

Not well, I just do not understand Facebook.  Need a tutorial!

Let;s get together after the holidays and I will help you with it, if you like, besides it has been way too long since we have seen you and Patty.

That would be good.  Should have things back in order by then and it would be a good break.

Have you or anyone heard anything from Bendita?  Looks like the last time on here was Dec. 4 but I haven't seen any posts from him in quite a while.  Hope all is well with him.

I use FB to promote Scroll Saw Village and Scroll Saw Goodies.  I use it a bit differently than to generate sales, though.  I use it to drive traffic and to remind people that we're still here.  I post pictures from the bragging rights section with a link to the thread.  I think that get's people excited about projects and gets the wheels turning.  Then hopefully, they stop by SSV and say hi.

I think the best way to use FB (or any social media, for that matter) is to keep you and your services in front of eyeballs and remind people you're still there.  Just keep posting and sharing.  Even if it's only your friends and family watching.  They have fun seeing what you're making.  Then, one day, when they're in the market for a special gift, they'll shoot you a message.  After awhile, you'll get other people looking.  Shoot, they may be woodworkers/crafters too looking for ideas. But maybe, there's something they don't know how to do for a project (pattern designing, cutting, etc), and they'll commission you to do something.

Keep it informal.  Have fun with it.  And be sure to post regularly, even if it's just pictures of your shop (people LOVE behind the scenes stuff).    Once you get an audience, it's easier to keep going since you'll start getting "Likes" and comments.  It's a lot of fun when people really like seeing what you're up to.  It's quite the motivator.

I don't have many Likes/Subscribers.  SSV has about 2,900.  Scroll Saw Goodies has about 1,400.  But, when I do post something, I can get in front of about 900 eyeballs with one post.

One thing that I've been having a lot of fun is Instagram.  There's quite a community and it's fun to see what others are working on.
