Scrappile Posted July 10, 2019 Report Posted July 10, 2019 Very beautiful pieces... How long does it take you to burn something like that? Pretty amazing. Do you make pattern and transfer it to the wood somehow..? Your work is outstanding. I could not do it, to old and shaky but I am very curious how you do it. Scrollcrazy 1 Quote

Naturally, it depends on the piece but, it takes a few evenings sitting around watching tv to draw it and twice as long to burn it. I made an end table that took about a month! Lol. I don't work on things consistantly unless I have a commision. I cut my own wood usually from birch ply. My husband built me a woodshop and keeps me in tools. My favorite place to be. I like the smooth grain and light color. Then I draw the design with pencil directly on the wood. I use a compass and a ruler to make a grid of sorts and start drawing. After that I go to my burner. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for asking! Scrappile and amazingkevin 1 1 Quote
Sycamore67 Posted July 11, 2019 Report Posted July 11, 2019 It is very interesting how you create these. Maybe you could take a few pictures at different stages and post them. Scrollcrazy 1 Quote

Maybe you could take a few pictures at different stages and post them. Here's a couple of photos. Kind of hard to see but, maybe you can get the idea. The first one is the pencil design. After I draw the grid with my ruler and compass, I draw the same pattern in each "square" all the way around then go on to the next. The second photo is after I've started burning. Once I'm satisfied, I erase all the pencil marks and add shading with the burner. It's a simple idea but, hard to explain. Lol. If you're interested you can google 'mandala drawing'. There's a ton of instructional videos. Thanks for your interest amazingkevin and Sycamore67 1 1 Quote
