planeur Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) Is your scrollsaw table is level or with an angle like mine. The back legs of my table are higher than the front ones, so you see more the line to cut or pattern in a overhead view! I had been reading that it was better like that , and still using it . planeur Edited March 7, 2020 by planeur amazingkevin, new2woodwrk and OCtoolguy 3 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 (edited) When I built the stand for my EX21, I hinged the top at the front of the stand. That allows me to lift the rear of the top to tilt the saw toward me. I haven't measured the angle but my stand is 24" front to back and I have a 2x4 on edge under the rear of the saw table. I would guess about 25-30 degrees. Edited March 7, 2020 by octoolguy To clarify. Quote
new2woodwrk Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 I use a prop to lift the back slightly, the prop is a stub of 2x4 which I also use a stub for holding up the arm when changing blades OCtoolguy 1 Quote
barb.j.enders Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 I have a DeWalt 788 and stand, the stand is angled but not as much as I have seen others. Not sure what the angle is. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Wilson142 Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 I have mine tilted. Mostly because I get a stiff neck after cutting a long time with it level. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Puzzleguy Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 all of my saws are tilted forward - you see what your doing better and it makes cutting way easier . on the hegner's I use a piece of hard rubber matting ( rubber mats at our local farm and family store )-which also helps with the vibration of the saw OCtoolguy 1 Quote
tomsteve Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 nnnnaahh- my shop stool is tilted forward-cut off 3" from a pair of the legs. i tried my saw tilted but didnt get used to it. so it sits level. Jim Finn and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote
SteveS Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 My saw has a 2x4 block under the back leg. Still evaluating this option. So far I like it. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Jim McDonald Posted March 7, 2020 Report Posted March 7, 2020 I just checked my Dewalt and with the factory stand at the highest level in the back, my level app shows 7° to the front. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Hawk Posted March 8, 2020 Report Posted March 8, 2020 I'm the odd duck here. My Delta P-20 on it's stand had a tilt toward the front. Didn't like it. Moved it to my bench I built, it's higher than the average bench, the top is 39". The saw sits on top of that and I stand to cut, the saw is level. I can lean over to see straight down if needed or from the front to line the blade with the cut line when needed. I do have a stool that keeps me at the same height if needed. But most all my cutting is from a standing position. It just works better for me. Chris Jim Finn and OCtoolguy 1 1 Quote

If I stand for too long, the neuroma in my right foot makes my toes feel like they are on fire. I'm thinking about surgery this year to correct it. Jim Finn and amazingkevin 2 Quote
Rockytime Posted March 8, 2020 Report Posted March 8, 2020 My feet are terribly irritated due to diabetic neuropathy. Exactly what type of surgery are you thinking about? Surely nothing so radical as foot removal. OCtoolguy and amazingkevin 1 1 Quote
Rockytime Posted March 8, 2020 Report Posted March 8, 2020 My Hegners are tilted forward 8 degrees. The Hawk I had was also. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
amazingkevin Posted March 10, 2020 Report Posted March 10, 2020 I love the tilt on my DeWalt. I set the tilt 10" in the back from level. No more neck and back problems for years and years. Old Joe and OCtoolguy 2 Quote

Two toes will basically be numb all the time instead of burning. Quote

I started scrolling about 4 1/2 years ago and found this blog just as I got my DW788.: Kevin, you advised me to tilt it, and also were very, very encouraging to me in my beginning efforts. I have always appreciated your kindness. OCtoolguy and amazingkevin 2 Quote
dvdneal Posted March 10, 2020 Report Posted March 10, 2020 Built my own stand. It's lower than most so I can sit comfortably and it's tilted forward. Ugly as sin, but it works. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Davevand Posted March 13, 2020 Report Posted March 13, 2020 I can tilt my saw anywhere from 0-35 degrees. I use it mostly 0-5 degrees OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Jim Finn Posted March 14, 2020 Report Posted March 14, 2020 I have four scroll saws and all are now level. I tried tilting one but did not see an advantage to that for me. I have two of them on 12" tall wooden bases I made for them. With those two I can sit down and have my hands and arms in a more comfortable position while cutting. Easier on my shoulders. SteveS Posted March 15, 2020 Report Posted March 15, 2020 I had to remove my 2x4 prop from the back leg. I think my Delta SS350 vibrated more with the prop so I'm back to a level saw table. It works for me. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
