kywoodmaster Posted March 18, 2020 Report Posted March 18, 2020 Just reading where the government is going to send every adult citizen a check for $1000.00. That will be almost enough to pay for the toilet paper!!! ChelCass, Loskoppie and wombatie 1 2 Quote

teachnlearn Posted March 19, 2020 Report Posted March 19, 2020 So everyone gets 1000 or 2000 dollar check, and the groceries and the rest won't go up in price? RJF Read Trump wants to reimburse the airlines 50 Billion. Why? Every business is hit. Why does the airlines need 50 billion? Is that the cost of extra planes sitting parked? Everyone employees with the airlines will end up at home like the rest of us, does that some how cost the airlines more? Just can't get the numbers to add to 50 billion. RJF danny 1 Quote

RJF It cost the companies the same amount, but without revenue, paying out is hard to do. it's not just Trump, world wide interest rates are being cut to zero, money is being poured into the economies, the idea is to try to mitigate a world wide recession. Travel and hospitality industries need to keep paying employee's, over 2 million have already applied for unemployment in the US and if current employee's are not paid that will skyrocket. Too many people on unemployment and what do you think might happen? My daughter is president of a for profit college, the state (OH) closed them, making payroll for more than 3 pay periods is going to be a problem for them. Low interest loans may help, but it just decreases the bottom line for the length of loan going forward. The owners and other working shareholders are reducing their pay to one dollar to help, daughter is taking a 50% pay cut, but still making payroll is a problem long term. Locally businesses are trying to pay employees while the business is shuttered or restricted, but realistically that can only be done for so long. Trump saying no evictions, no foreclosures, that helps people, but as a landlord I still have debt, (mortgage, insurance, taxes) renters stop getting paid, they stop paying rent. California just ordered folks to shelter in place, state wide! For many that $1K or whatever is going be critical, those of us that are slightly better off than the working class it is going to be helpful, big difference in critical and helpful. Quote
rjweb Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 What I read this morning it’s 1200.00 but you must make 75,000.00 on your 2018 tax return, or more but not more than 99,000.00, RJ veg Quote
teachnlearn Posted March 20, 2020 Report Posted March 20, 2020 The monetary system is not a physical thing that has to be fed. It's a form of exchange. What it comes down to is the government coming to terms with peoples basic needs, medical care, food, shelter. Even insurance and taxes has no necessity in this time. If they dropped taxes, insurance, you wouldn't be worried. I don't understand people demanding their high pay checks when, there is no business being performed. If pilots aren't flying do they need a continued $75,000 a year? The essential money is a basic exchange for food, medicine, 'toilet paper'. No one NEEDS a lot of money right now. Are they going on an extended vacation to somewhere else that is quarantined? We are down to basic trade of supply of the essentials, of physical trade and caring for each other rather then a personal gain of paper money that will only be good for wiping once and jamming the toilet. There has to be an equity for all for whatever they do for work. Do you really want new tile done by a team that has been in other places and may carry the virus? So because of the virus, they won't be working. How about the garbage, would you like it removed? Who is going to handle it knowing there are high odds some household has the virus. Do they now get high risk pay? and will they continue to collect garbage when they get sick? Or tons of garbage sits on the streets. Do the store checkers and stock people continue to work as more people get sick and they are working at minimum wage? Or do they stay home away from people like the recommendation? Do they get hazard pay for public exposure? I would guess Walmart is not going to continue to pay a single person to stay home. Yet everyone wants those stores open all day. Who is more essential right now? The college professor or the stock people and clerks at Walmart to keep getting food and meds and essentials out the door? Now they find as many young people are in intensive care as others, so the original idea of just the old doesn't work. I think the idea of our economy and how it works is a bit bent right now. Now our government will have to really function and solve medical and social problems, or many will die. We haven't had a major spread yet, though I already worked the math and the virus spread is exponential. Essential intervention will be needed in quarantine, food supply and medical supplies for all. Best I can find is Romney's plan stating you receive a check if you make less than 65K https://www.marketwatch.com/story/romney-other-lawmakers-call-for-sending-1000-checks-to-americans-as-part-of-coronavirus-response-2020-03-16 Quote

ChelCass Posted March 21, 2020 Report Posted March 21, 2020 Don't hold your breath waiting for that $1000.00. The government is arguing over just how much to give people. Them greedy congressmen don't like to let go of any money that they might be able to put in their pockets! Quote

Puzzleguy Posted March 21, 2020 Report Posted March 21, 2020 (edited) This is a hard thing to talk about -but they should of stopped the influx of travelers the minute China had that problem- not allowing any planes to fly , closing our borders - and take a serious plan to quench this before now. Many states are still not taking this seriously their allowing people to congregate in large numbers , not closing venues like cruises quicker - telling people to stay home and no un-necessary travel etc. To much to get into this -sorry if this offended anyone - its just plain stupidity .
