My 1st Name Puzzle

Something new for me….name puzzle…..teaches name, colors & shapes before pre-school…..will be making these for my grandkids, whenever that is…..1/2" sanded ply, 1/4" sanded ply for the backer.....only painted the letters.....routed the edges to eliminate sharp corners.....comments always welcomed

I've made a lot of these name puzzles. I usually set my saw at a 4 degree angle so the letters go in easier.  This is the font I use so I don't have to worry about islands.

Used a tiny tiny drill bit…. a FD #63 twist drill bit….got from Mike’s a few years ago

Nice work Dan. I have a couple 1 year old great nieces and nephews. I should consider making them some for Christmas or their birthdays one year. I can hope ,one look 1/2 as good as yours or Dave’s.

What font name is that you use. I like the idea of no islands

Very nice clean work.  I have done 4 of them now.  I like the font called Sniglet from Dafont.com.  I also paint the backer letter space the same colour as the letters.  This is one of the four that I have done.

I've made a few but hadn't thought about cutting on an angle and will be doing that from now one. It can be pretty tedious even for a grown up putting the letters in. Do you know the name of this font? I searched for Word Art and didn't come up with anything.

Nicely done.. I have been thinking about name puzzles too, as I have 4 new great grandkids that just turned one year old in the last couple of months.

I know this is an older post but I would like to know what you use for paint.

Is it approved as child safe?

I have used vegetable dye but it is not bright.

I beleive any good quality brand of a gloss enamel is considered safe for children these day since lead is no longer use in paints.  A good primer and then paint with multiple coats will give a hard, safe mouthable coating.  Laike anything else, reading the lable is always a good I dea.

Those are both great looking. Kids will love them.
