flarud Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 Wondering when we will start to feel the effects on our wallets on lumber prices due to the fires. I don't mean to disrespect anyone or make light of what is happening. I'm sure many people have lost property and lives and lumber prices isn't our biggest concern. OCtoolguy and ChelCass 2 Quote
edward Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 It's been pretty bad here in Philadelphia the air feels like sitting around a camp fire, had to close all the windows and put the A C on. Masks do help while outside. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Dak0ta52 Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 I'm about 30-miles east of Fayetteville/Fort Bragg, NC, and there is a haze in the air with a faint scent of wood smoke. I do fill sorry for the losses I'm sure many have experienced and unfortunately as wood hobbyist, we will feel the effects of these losses down the road. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I kinda remember reading a while back that it takes 17 years to feel the effects?? Due to the replanting and growth of the new trees. I'm sure that we will see the prices raise much much quicker than that! OCtoolguy and Dak0ta52 2 Quote
Sycamore67 Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 I am in NW Indiana and the skies this morning were a hazy dirty color. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
Roberta Moreton Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 I am a bit north of Fayetteville, NC. It has looked dreary, like it was going to rain…it’s the smoke. It is supposed to get better this weekend…I am hoping I don’t let the grandkids go out to play. One already has asthma. I can’t imagine what’s it’s like in Canada. OCtoolguy 1 Quote
OCtoolguy Posted June 8, 2023 Report Posted June 8, 2023 I was looking at the fire map today and it appears that most of the fires are on the West side of Canada. It wouldn't take too much for a wind shift to drive the smoke due south to the Pacific Coast region. It could be nasty down here. Quote
wombatie Posted June 9, 2023 Report Posted June 9, 2023 My heart goes out to the Canadian people. Aussie fire fighters are over there helping to fight it. Marg MarieC 1 Quote
MTCowpoke22 Posted June 9, 2023 Report Posted June 9, 2023 Hard to say. Most of the fires are in the sparcely populated northern reaches of Canada, and I'm not sure just how much logging is allowed and how much actually gets done up there. We do get a lot of smoke every summer from Canadian fires, but it usually doesn't get bad until late July-August, so it's pretty unusu al to have it this early. Quote
