Well does it have silver wheels, Black smoke stack,  add color. Pimp it out with 70's colors.   Call it the HOT love train.

Send it to the guy that bought all your model trains.

If if looked like the attached pic then I could put it on my fence.

Looks like a fun cut! Print some more copies of the pattern and plat with colors on them before you commit to the cut piece.

That's a great idea Rolf. Thanks. I'll have to make some changes to the pattern though as it printed with the cut-out parts in a gold/brown tone. I'll see if I can change it.

You didn’t have plans to back and frame it?  That is what I usually do with fretwork.  After dipping it in danish oil. Maybe try a bigger blade next time.  I usually cut 1/8” ply double stacked with a #3 spiral and or flat blade.
I think you did a great job!

Thanks for your input. I had never used a very fine blade before so I wanted the experience. I quickly learned a lot about tension. Lol. To be honest I hadn't given any thought as to what/how to finish it. I don't do wall hangers or shelf sitters so it's a experience. I liked the pattern and just knew I wanted to cut it. I think I'll do a black backer and shoot the piece with clear semi-gloss poly. I'll hang it somewhere in my office. I've got some ideas for a frame.

Ray, really nice!  I can't believe that is your first fretwork....simply amazing! 👏

Ok, it's my second. I did a big butterfly back when I first started. It's still hanging in my shop. I may have tried doing a coaster once that didn't necessarily turn out. It was pretty intricate. Here's a pic. It's about 4.5 inches square. I cut it out of hickory which is very hard wood.

Wow, that is lovely.  Yes, why did you pick Hickory of all things...  it is crazy hard Jenka=1820....It is right up there with Purple heart.  That must have been quite a challenge for your very first time.  No wonder you waited years to do your next one 😄

I really don't know why. I just had a piece of it that was the right size so I did it. It was before I knew about hardness etc. In a way, I think it worked out because it was so hard, it didn't break as easily. Those cuts around the rim were very tough.

Ray,

Where did you get the pattern. Just curious.

He said it was a Jim Blume pattern.  Google Jim Blume or look him up on facebook the pattern is probably out there, or you could probably purchase it from Jim.

I'm not sure. I'll have to go back and try to find my original. At one time I was trying to find a "tree of life" that I really liked and this one seemed to catch my eye. I'll find it and get it to you.

Edit: Here ya go. I found it. I tried to save it as a .jpg but it fought me. So here it is in a .svg file. You can open it with Inkscape and do whatever you please.

I don't recall it being one of Jim's patterns. I found it somewhere.

Edit: Wait a minute. What pattern are we talking about? The locomotive is from Jim Blume. He posted it on Facebook a while back. The other one is a pattern that I found online somewhere.

I have already:

googled Jim Blume

Jim Blume train

Jim Blume Train scroll saw pattern

I visited every site in the pattern shop section here on SSV and searched each one

I found his facebook page and looked though his photos and his timeline, FB stops me at Feb 14th this year

THEN, I asked Ray.

Do you still need it? I have it saved if you do.
