Popular Post OCtoolguy Posted June 19, 2023 Popular Post Report Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) A Jim Blume pattern. I used 5/16" bb plywood and a whole bunch of Pegas 2/0 mgt blades. I'm not sure what to do with it now. Any suggestions will be appeciated. Edited June 19, 2023 by OCtoolguy barb.j.enders, scrollingforsanity, Dan and 8 others 11 Quote
preprius Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Well does it have silver wheels, Black smoke stack, add color. Pimp it out with 70's colors. Call it the HOT love train. Send it to the guy that bought all your model trains. If if looked like the attached pic then I could put it on my fence. Edited June 19, 2023 by preprius OCtoolguy and MarieC 2 Quote
Dak0ta52 Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 Wow, Ray! Looks like there would have been some very delicate areas on that piece. Great job. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Rolf Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 (edited) Looks like a fun cut! Print some more copies of the pattern and play with colors on them before you commit to the cut piece. Edited June 20, 2023 by Rolf OCtoolguy and MarieC 1 1 Quote
rjweb Posted June 19, 2023 Report Posted June 19, 2023 Ray, you have done an excellent job on that, RJ OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I'll have to make some changes to the pattern though as it printed with the cut-out parts in a gold/brown tone. I'll see if I can change it. Quote
scrollerpete Posted June 20, 2023 Report Posted June 20, 2023 WOW that was some fancy cutting, I believe that you want through quite a few blades, Great job OCtoolguy 1 Quote

Roberta Moreton Posted June 20, 2023 Report Posted June 20, 2023 You didn’t have plans to back and frame it? That is what I usually do with fretwork. After dipping it in danish oil. Maybe try a bigger blade next time. I usually cut 1/8” ply double stacked with a #3 spiral and or flat blade. I think you did a great job! OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I had never used a very fine blade before so I wanted the experience. I quickly learned a lot about tension. Lol. To be honest I hadn't given any thought as to what/how to finish it. I don't do wall hangers or shelf sitters so it's a experience. I liked the pattern and just knew I wanted to cut it. I think I'll do a black backer and shoot the piece with clear semi-gloss poly. I'll hang it somewhere in my office. I've got some ideas for a frame. Roberta Moreton 1 Quote

I did a big butterfly back when I first started. It's still hanging in my shop. I may have tried doing a coaster once that didn't necessarily turn out. It was pretty intricate. Here's a pic. It's about 4.5 inches square. I cut it out of hickory which is very hard wood. ChelCass and MarieC 1 1 Quote

Wow, that is lovely. Yes, why did you pick Hickory of all things... it is crazy hard Jenka=1820....It is right up there with Purple heart. That must have been quite a challenge for your very first time. No wonder you waited years to do your next one OCtoolguy 1 Quote

No wonder you waited years to do your next one I really don't know why. I just had a piece of it that was the right size so I did it. It was before I knew about hardness etc. In a way, I think it worked out because it was so hard, it didn't break as easily. Those cuts around the rim were very tough. Quote
Wichman Posted June 22, 2023 Report Posted June 22, 2023 Ray, Where did you get the pattern. Just curious. OCtoolguy 1 Quote

I'll have to go back and try to find my original. At one time I was trying to find a "tree of life" that I really liked and this one seemed to catch my eye. I'll find it and get it to you. Edit: Here ya go. I found it. I tried to save it as a .jpg but it fought me. So here it is in a .svg file. You can open it with Inkscape and do whatever you please. Edit: Wait a minute. What pattern are we talking about? The locomotive is from Jim Blume. He posted it on Facebook a while back. The other one is a pattern that I found online somewhere.
