Popular Post Charlie E Posted July 2, 2025 Popular Post Report Posted July 2, 2025 It's been quite a while. So many things have kept me out of the shop. I finally got some time to play around a bit. The Edmund Fitzgerald sank in Lake Superior 50 years ago this November claiming the lives of all 29 crew members. The lyric I put on this cutting may be my favorite of all time. The song says that the bell at the Maritime Sailors' Cathedral in Detroit rang 29 times for each man on the Edmund Fitzgerald. The day after Gordon Lightfoot died, it rang 30. The cutting is done on 1/2 red oak and is about 7" x 7". The backer is some old pine that I burnt with a torch. It came from an old cabinet in a house that used to belong to my mom. We are remodeling the house for my daughter, which is mostly what is keeping me out of the shop. New Guy, Dave Monk, artisanpirate and 16 others 15 4 Quote

MarieC Posted July 5, 2025 Report Posted July 5, 2025 Wow! You do amazing work. I too love that song and was sad when I heard he passed. I was unaware of them ringing the bell 30 times after he passed. Quite a tragic story. Thanks for making such a great piece and I love the idea of the burned wood backing. Quite creative...you are quite the artist! heppnerguy and Charlie E 1 1 Quote
