Aged Looking Wood?

I have a request for a laser engraved sign with a aged wood look.. Like to cut it and engrave it from BBply if I could for light weight since the sign is going to hang inside a home and it's going to be 24 x 36 inch in size. I'm not certain how to go about making it look aged.. I'm guessing the quickest way would be to paint it and sand it to give a distressed look? Wouldn't you know I had about 200bdft of age stained Maple from sitting stickered outside in the sun for a year or two and I couldn't sell it to nobody so I made it into campfire wood and burned it up over the last few years. LOL. Thought about using cedar pickets too and might get lucky to find some that have sat outside at Menards or Lowes..

if you find  fence pickets at Lowe's or HD that have sat outside long enough to give it an aged look and they havent  split,cracked, cupped, twisted, or warped.......... frame em and hang em on the wall because THAT will be a first!

A long time ago  when I was refinishing antiques I would distress by banging with keys, or a small ball head hammer.  I would then use steel wool and vinegar solution.

It takes a lot of experimenting depending on the type of wood.

Probably could make the guinness world record to find a straight board from the box stores period, LOL.. Just thought maybe if it aged maybe it'll straighten up.

I guess rather than distressed I'm looking for a aged look.. not really beat up or dented etc just aged with some grey type tones.. This is what they sent me as a reference to what they want. This is more of a white wash so to speak.. she said aged / distressed look. Now that they show this.. I may be able to just paint and sand it?

I ended up buying something different, I thought it was the same stuff until I looked at the picture again. I ended up with Varathane grey weathered look oil base stain. I did some sample pieces and seems to have the look that I think we are after..
