Scott, try it, it's not all that expensive to try experimenting with. You might like the way it improves the way the wood moves over the table. Or, you just might like the way it helps to prevent oak from burning on the edges. After trying it out, get back to us to let us know what you think of it. Len

John, when I need to use the small index drill bits, I use my full size drill press, the chuck will hold even the smallest size bits. The best way to use these small drill bits, is to only leave enough of the drill bit protruding out of the chuck to drill through the wood cleanly. You will not break as many bits, if you do it this way. The bit gets better support from the chuck, and it doesn't allow the bit to wobble which could cause it to break. Len

You're right Steve, he definitely enjoys playing with it. It's nice to have a little one around to make these toys for, I have a nephew that I make toy trucks and cars for, his mother asked me to make a few "handmade" toys for him. Len

Wow, what an amazing piece of work, how many hours did it take to make this? I do hope you stack cut it, it would be a shame to sell it if there's only the one copy. A piece like this, is quite the conversation piece, when people see it, they'll talk about it. Len -
Edward, if your talking about gluing a 1/2" board onto the top of another 1/2" board to make a 1" board? Then yes you will be able to cut it with no problems, I cut 2" oak and the end cuts turn out looking as if the wood has be varnished. You could even get away with gluing three boards together, that would only make the stock 1&1/2" thick and your saw should be able to handle that thickness. And if your talking about making a board wider by edge gluing, I don't see why you would have a problem cutting it as it would only be 1/2" thick stock. Len

If you enjoy cutting on a Dewalt, you'll love cutting on the General (EX21). Plus, if you do any cutting on an angle, the EX21 is definitely the way to go. The tilting head is what sold me on the machine, it makes it just so much easier to make any cut on an angle. Yes these saws generally cost a bit more than the Dewalt does, but, they seem to be a better built saw. Len

Kevin, you might want to treat that wood panel to a coating of prestain, I've used panels like that before and the stain went on real blotchy and uneven. Now when I use those panels (which isn't very often) I use a product put out by Min-Wax called Prestain. It conditions the wood so that the stain goes on evenly, and you don't end up with different shades of stain. It makes it so that the stain looks the same on the end cuts as well as on the face of the wood. It might not work though, if your looking for a real dark color stain, you would have to try it out on a scrap piece of wood. Len

I'm not ticked off about the rant, I didn't read it, simply because I don't bother reading postings that are all in capital letters. But, from reading others postings I get where your coming from, and I do understand your frustration. Did you mention any of your concerns to the original offender/thief? If so, what was their reply? Did you try to get the pics of the pattern taken down, were you successful? Is there any way you can contact the owner/provider of the site to report the posting of stolen property? Where is the offender from, what country? Can you post the pattern in enough free places, so, that the offender will not make any money off of your work? I know this won't put any money in your pocket by doing this, but, hopefully it won't allow any money to be put in his off of your work. Len

Dick, why would you cut it out before getting approval from the customer? She will probably fall in love with the piece, it's beautiful! But,there is always the chance that she may not like it, what would you do with it then? On most things I cut that is a special order, I always ask for 50% of the actual cost up front. That way I don't usually get stuck with a piece that I don't want. For this piece, I wouldn't charge her anything, I give these types of cuts to the people who ask for them. I do that because, it makes me feel good by making them feel good. Len

I hate them also Roly, I've never had much luck with them. I scroll for enjoyment, not to get frustrated, and that's what spiral blades do to me. Len

All I see is a black and white picture, where is the color your all talking about? Maybe if it was a colored picture it might look better, but it doesn't look to hot in black and white. Len

Welcome to the village Out for a scroll, I see that you didn't post much info about yourself the info section of your avatar space. In time I hope you feel comfortable enough to let us know your first name, and possibly where you live. It makes it easier to talk to a person if you know their name, and it makes it easier to understand what a person is talking about if you know where they live. There's no rule that says that you have to share this info, but, it does make it easier for us to get to know you. Len

Sully, doesn't FDUR mean Flying Dutchman Ultra Reverse? I don't understand what you mean by stating that you don't use any Reverse skip tooth blades, they have a skip tooth to get to the reverse part of the blade. Len

David, I'd suggest that you buy as good a saw as you can afford, you will be farther ahead by doing so. The cheaper saws work, but, they don't work as well as a better quality saw, and they don't last nearly as long. You will get better results with a quality saw. I've used numerous low quality saws, and they were more almost stressful to use. It was hard to keep the blade taught, and the vibrations of these cheaper saws is unreal at times. This is no baloney, this statement is based on my own personal experience with numerous different saws. Low priced ones, and a couple of the top of the line saws. I now own an EX21, and I love using it, but, it may not be the saw for everyone, and personally, I think a new scroller should learn how to cut with a lower quality saw. If for no other reason than, to get the experience of doing so. Len
